  1. I waited several extra months for the AT4's release to purchase my truck. Less than 1 day of light driving and 70 miles into my new truck the transmission started to slip in and out of gear. I pulled into a parking lot and when I shifted into revers the truck slowly rolled forward. Onstar had a flat bed tow truck there within an hour to bring the day old truck back to the dealer. The dealer can not start work on the truck until GM approves the new transmission. I am told that there is a lot of extra paperwork and approval because there are so few miles and it is a new truck. I would think that GM would want to maintain their customer loyalty and support their new designs before aggravating buyers of new trucks. I have been a lifelong GM buyer, but thinking that i should have gone with a Ford or Ram. Has anyone else had to wait for repairs on a brand new vehicle?
  2. I Purchased my 2015 silverado z71 crew cab a couple months ago, so far i love the truck accept for one issue that shows itself every once in a while. USUALLY while turning and acceleration lightly at the same time ( lugging the motor pretty much) ill get a very noticable shudder right before the truck FINALLY decides to downshift. Has anyone had a similar issue. Im going to drives my buddies sierra tomorrow and see if i get the same shudder. I have 3600 miles on this truck so i dont think its anything to do with the "adaptive" transmission learning cycle. Ive heard a custom tune can resolve issues but i really hate to do that on this new of a truck, nor do i have anywhere within 400 miles to get it done. New to the forum guys, hope to get some responses, this is my first GM product. Switched from a 2008 tundra with 245000 trouble free miles. Hope i dont regret this purchase
  3. Hello, I have a 2018 Silverado, around 11000 miles on it. Driving the other day, lost power around 35 mph, pulled into a parking lot, re started the truck and checked to make sure I was in 2wd etc. Began driving again, toward home due to something being wrong and same issue occurred including check engine light. Had vehicle towed Friday night when it happened, at dealer now which isn't open until tomorrow. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
  4. Patient - 2019 1500 LD, 5.3, 6 sp, 7200 miles old, Covid-19 negative. Symptoms - 2-3 second shutter / shake / rumble, during light acceleration, 30-40 MPH and low RPM. Happens while both in V4 mode and while in v8 (manual w/ transmission set to L5). I thinks its the torque converter, but surfing the forum I see this issue mainly referenced to 2015+/- K2s and I'm not sure if they changed the trans in the final years. I'd appreciate either a TSB # or a link to another posting were I could find the TSB. I'd like to be able to take to my dealer and say "HERE....READ....FIX" (politely). Many thanks!
  5. Enjoy! Here's a copy of the 2007-2009 GM/GMC factory service manual for trucks. It covers trouble shooting and advice on what and how to repair/rebuild everything with torque specs. 4.3L engine to 6.6L trucks with everything form bumper to bumper... https://www.dropbox.com/s/rflvemxjpqfc4h4/Gmc_Sierra_Service_Manual_Repair_Manual_Fsm_2007-2009_Download.zip?dl=0
  6. Hey guys, After many many hours of forum reading and trying to find a answer for a problem like mine I've finally given up and decided to just ask. I've got a 2001 Silverado 1500 LS 2wd with the 5.3L. We were driving down a back road the other day and to simply say that it was muddy would be a huge understatement. Had I not know better I wouldn't have believed it was an actual road and not a trail. The mud was so deep that it reached clay in spots and we basically snowplowed mud with the front bumper. After making it back to the highway we went to go accelerate only to be bounced around wildly and were unable to go much faster than 80km/h due to a random and sudden lack of 3rd gear and overdrive. Limped the truck home and did a transmission fluid and filter change the next day. Fluid was filthier than heck, dark dark brown in color sort of like Cola. After that now the truck sometimes finds 3rd but 4th is nowhere to be found and once you get over about 70km/h it shakes so hard it feels like the worst washboard despite doing our best to get all the mud out of the wheels. Reverse still works fine. Looked under the truck and there does appear to be a bent crossmember but the frame still looks fine and straight. Some backstory; Never had any transmission problems before this or signs of slipping. The tires on the truck are oversized, from a stock 245/75r16 to running 275/70r17. At present there are no rear brakes, had a bolt on the caliper come off one day and long story short ended up disconnecting them and pinching off the lines for the back brakes. We also have kids who like to play driving and occasionally jerk on the shifter, one day our toddler somehow manged to get the truck out of drive without hitting the brake and it started rolling, it didn't go very far before I stopped it but nevertheless was certainly surprising. So my question is; what could be causing this to happen? Is the transmission completely gone and if so why no warning signs? Could it be the 3/4 clutch pack, the shift cable, transmission mounts or something else? Any input would be appreciated!
  7. Hello T1XX owners, Did anyone put a dipstick in there 8L90e transmission yet? I would like to get a dipstick but am not excited about spending $180 and putting three holes in my new truck. B&M makes one that works but $180 seems like a lot(also three holes). Has anyone taken one from a Camaro and put it in? They have the same trans but different motor. so it might fit the trans but the bolt location might be different. My question again is, has anyone did it yet? What did you buy? How do you like it?
  8. I'm trying to buy a 2004 Silverado 1500hd with the 6.0 and 4l80e. When test driving the transmission would shift through all the gears fine but if you let off the gas as soon as the rpms hit 2000 they would drop to 1500 to 1000 and there would be a loud grind/whine until you tapped the gas again. I'm assuming it's the transmission, maybe the torque converter. Any help would be great so I can figure out if the transmission would have to be rebuilt or if it's something simpler to fix
  9. So I have this 2000 Silverado with a 4L60E auto transmission. It’s got over 200k miles. The 4.3 v6 engine runs great, but half of the time the transmission will barely move the truck. (This is a standard cab 2wd version.) if I’m stopped and I put it in reverse I have to give it a really heavy push on the gas to get it to move.. but on the other side of the coin it will work fine sometimes. The transmission will search aimlessly for a gear but works fine once it finds one. Some days it won’t go over 30mph and other days it works just fine. Could I just have a bad filter or something or do I need a new transmission? Thanks!
  10. Who else is having a transmission issue? I saw the thread about hard shift into 2nd, but towing yesterday at 65 mph the transmission literally jolted the truck like it fell out on the freeway, scared the sh*t out of me. Also under acceleration it feels at times like it cant find the right gear, hesitates a bit then finds it. Also when decelerating, letting off the gas it paused then hits. Wanted to see if anyone else is having similar issues. Ive taken it twice to my local dealership and both times they say "Sorry, we couldnt get it to replicate for us, here are your keys."
  11. Got a 1993 G20 Chevy Sports Van. She's a 5.7 V8 704r. So this was part of the seller's inheritance. She sat for almost one year and prior to owners death, had no Transmission issues. She drives in Neutral and has 0 ZERO Reverse. Like no bucking or any other sensation when it's in reverse. Her trans fluid was dark. I had all fluids changed today and asked the mechanic what he found in the transmission pan. He said there were a few shavings and the fluid was dark but that was it. He told me he was no Transmission guy but really felt like I did not have a transmission problem. The car acts like it has no reverse at all. I was told by a transmission guy to Rev it up a bit after warming it up. If the front clutch in the transmission is stuck together, I should feel it buck like it wants to go into reverse but it can't. I GOT nothing in reverse period. It drives in Neutral which the mechanics that did the fluid changes said they have never seen. Sooooo...do I have a transmission problem, a shift solenoid problem, some sort of cable that's come undone....detent, TV ? My fear is that this is something less expensive than a transmission rebuild and I don't know enough to know what it is ? What do you guys think ? For the record....after all the fluids were changed, it drove like a million bucks !
  12. Just wanted to post on here, as I have seen no less than a thousand posts with questions about the 6L80E, specifically about the power threshold of a stock unit. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT Crew Cab Standard Bed stock 3.42 gears stock drive shaft stock 20" rims/tires 6.2L fully forged top/bottom end "Armageddon Twin Nagasaki's" (GT3582R's) e-boost 2 gauge Z06/LT4 fuel system 365lph in-tank Armageddon fuel pump QTP exhaust cut-outs and laid down 965rwhp/850 rwtq on a mustang dyno with 18psi on 116 race fuel (cut-outs open). I say all of this because the stock transmission detonated the 4-5-6 shaft (intermediate hub) near the splines. I took it to a "race shop" that said they would upgrade as much as they could; and was told at the time, there were limited aftermarket parts available for the 6L80E. This was mid 2018 with less than 10K miles on the truck and about 500 miles on the engine/turbo build and I discovered that was not entirely true. I drove the truck after their work, with "spirited road driving" while the roads were wet no less. Long story short; they f'd me and I detonated the 4-5-6 stock intermediate shaft again within 100 miles and no traction at all. They apparently replaced all parts that were broken with stock parts! Moving on, I took my truck to a different shop and researched my a** off and found PATC Transmissions. I had a warm and fuzzy after speaking with them and ordered the Phoenix Level 4 Master Rebuild kit among a few other minor accoutrements and re-tuning of my TCM by Mike from Century Automotive. It is now APR 2019 and I am about 1 1/2 weeks away from having the my billet planetary gear mailed to me; for the new, more reputable shop in my area to install all of this PATC bada**ery. If anyone is truly interested, I will post new info once I put the new Phoenix Master Rebuild kit through the ringer with the full weight/horsepower/torque of my particular application...I hope this helps if there are some lost souls out there that may be headed down the same long. hard. road. of a "full send" like myself! Please post if you have questions/comments/concerns; as I have "been there done that and forgot the t-shirt" with the L86/6L80E so far.
  13. I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 LT with the 6 speed transmission. The transmission seems very sloppy to me and almost every time I am coming to a stop, the transmission will clunk while shifting down. The truck has around 80,000 miles on it and did have some front end damage to it but i don’t see why that would have anything to do with the transmission. Has anyone experienced this and/or have a fix?
  14. Can any one help me find this issue. On my 08 Silverado 1500 Vortec Max I can drive normally find no issues no lights etc. Sometimes though I can either be going over a small bump going around 10-20 mph and then it clunks and then goes into neutral. The 2 other ways it happens is when I make a turn and give it some gas to speed up it revs up and clunks and then goes into neutral and the 3rd way can be in 1st gear and then putting a decent amount of gas on it and then it does it again. It acts like its in neutral when its in drive and if I stop it just makes a bunch of noise and I can step on the gas and no movement. It sometimes will just go back into drive but other times I have to put it in reverse wait a second until it clunks back into drive and then its perfectly fine like nothing happened. The problem doesn't occur often but when it does it happens a few times more that day. I was thinking it might be a solenoid.
  15. Does anyone have a easy way they used to change the filter/ fluid in this trans? Exhaust pipe is keeping the pan from coming completely out.
  16. Hello there! My 1993 Silverado K1500 is throwing code 59. From what I can find this indicates that the transmission fluid sensor circuit voltage is high, which would mean that the sensor is telling the computer that the fluid is too hot? If I clear the codes and start the truck cold, it immediately throws this code. So I know **for sure** that the transmission isn’t actually hot. My question is, how should I go about diagnosing this? Is the sensor external and is there a way I can test to be sure the wiring is right? Or is it internal and should just be replaced? Appreciate any pointers you can give me.
  17. Hello! Just joined because I'm looking for directions. My '98 Sonoma runs like a dream...except, there is a slight delay in the engagement when I shift into reverse. Not sure where to begin in my search for information and options. I'm in the Greater Detroit area. I've kept the truck well maintained despite the 264,000 miles. Original engine and transmission. Where can I look/who can I talk to/what do I ask? Thanks! and I wish I found this site sooner. Pat
  18. Anybody help me out in figuring why my transmission shudders at low to no speed while in gear and even sometimes when it is not in gear. Possibly be low trans fluid? 73,000 miles on it and far as I know it hasn’t had the transmission serviced. I've read about problems with transmission shudder on the 8 speeds but this is a 6 speed. Do they have the same issue?
  19. So, not sure if I'm the only one who has this issue at 130,061 miles but for some reason one night my truck was shifting pretty harsh, keep in mind this is the first time it's done this. I was far from home so I just drove home because I didn't have the money to have it towed nor was I going to leave it out here for looters to break into. Drove it home and just down the street from my house the truck just did not want to drive. It wouldn't go into Drive or Reverse, had to push her heavy ass home. Next day I decided to see if she'll budge and long behold it actually went into gear and I was able to move it where I usually park it. I did not take it for a drive afraid it would happen again. Anyone know what could've caused it to just stop going into gear and then now it will. Seems odd to me.
  20. 2015 sierra denali 5.3l trans failed at 100,400 miles was flushed at 75k I had bought 100k extended warranty that ran out 300 miles ago. I am hoping GMPP does the right thing here. Also I was notified the week previous that my magnaride struts are leaking and wont warranty them. Seems ridiculous to me these thing all failed at 100k
  21. Rpm go up and down while driving steady near 55 to 65 fell vibration while shifting up and down
  22. Hello, Has anyone else experienced any shifting issues on their 2019's? The big one I seem to get a hard shift point around 2-4k RPM coming off a stop under light gradual acceleration shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. It's fairly random but seems to be more common after the transmission heats up 150-160 degrees or more, though it'll happen cooler too. The other is when feathering the throttle in traffic the downshifting seems a little harder than it should be, not as hard as the upshift and it doesn't clunk like my old 16' but it's a feeling like driving over a small bump occasionally but it's happened enough while watching the RPM needle shift to think it's not just the coincidence of running over a little bump. Typically during low traffic speeds < 30mph. All in all, the transmission is a vast improvement and is way smother compared to my clunky 2016 5.3L 6 speed Z71 which I traded in with 35k miles after valve sticking issues and a transmission rebuild replaced a fair bit of the transmission (torque converter, valve body, transmission pump). I cant tell if i'm just sensitive to the transmission or if I have something worth pursuing, service department says to give it 1500/2000 miles while the truck is "learning" as mentioned in other threads, I currently have just shy of 1100. After that I dread the "normal behavior" discussion. Overall it's a great truck, really smooth overall and a beast on the open road, in fact it's so smooth most of the time I think it might make the slow speed hiccups seem worse than they are. It's just a concern knowing that if it starts shifting issues at 500 miles, what's it gonna be doing at 20k miles etc.. Thanks everyone for reading! What's your experience? 2019 Silverado 5.3 V8, 4x4, Z71, RST
  23. I recently acquired a 1951 Chevrolet 6100 missing its engine and would like to refurbish it. However, Instead of putting in the original engine (Chevrolet 235) I am looking for an engine that came out in the next 10-15 years to put in my truck that will out put 200+ horsepower without being out of touch with the truck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  24. Hey guys, new to this forum. Recently purchased one of the dream trucks of mine, 2014 Sierra Z71 4x4 5.3l. Which I was finally able to afford lol, bought from a local dealer with 88k miles. Prior to purchasing I test drove it, checked the history and maintenance records from GMC. All seemed well, purchased it and few days later while driving home on the highway cruising about 60-70mph, I began noticing a really loud sudden vibration that would come and go every few minutes (feels like it’s coming from underneath the truck not sure), lasting about 5 seconds. Even around 20-30mph I notice some shaking. Seems to be shifting fine, drives pretty smooth other than these vibrations that are coming and going. I just don’t know what it could be. I didn’t notice it during the test drive, just my luck, hoping for the best. Any opinions are greatly appreciated, I attached a video as well of the sound. 85CD798D-6EDF-4AD3-896A-02B1F45F48D7.MOV
  25. 2015 Chevy Suburban with 130k, transmission went just like everyone else's, so I had it rebuilt at a outside shop with a trusted mechanic but I keep on having to bring it back. He rebuilt it and it took a week for the converter and the new gears to shift smoothly once again (normal). But now Im having problems with the temperature. My transmission temp is skyrocketing to 260 degrees with no check engine light coming on. After doing further investagation and taking the dipstick out and looking at the fluid and touching the stick it wasn't burnt or hot at all. The stick was cold. This is causing both my fans to blow cold air which is doing nothing and the temperature stays. The engine temperature is normal around 190. I love these trucks but with the amount of money put into them to keep is insane.
