I started the truck and the oil pressure gauge is jumping between the bottom and middle. The oil pump was replaced because of a similar issue and a oil warning message on the display about 4-5 months ago. This is a 2008 silverado 4x4 5.3 flexfuel. Thanks for reading:)

Today I was on my normal daily drive and my info center started making a tone and said to add oil because it was low!! I checked and its well below the hash marks. Has anyone else had this problem. I want to add oil but I want the dealer to see it and notice how low the oil really is. There has to be someting wrong to burn that much oil??

I have recently changed out the oil dipstick tube on my 2009 GMC Sierra (5.3L). The new tube has a mod that causes it to be relocated closer to the front of the engine between cylinders 4 and 6. This was no problem to accomplish, but the original dipstick is now too long. Does anyone have an idea of the length of the shorter dipstick. I can probably figure out where to mark the level indication if I can get a rough idea of the overall length.

The oil plug on my CTD "Cruze Turbo Diesel" is one I have never seen before. I can say it makes one hell of a mess, since as soon as you back it out two threads it starts to piss oil everywhere. We all know, diesel oil sucks being so black and it gets hot. Anyhow, here is a picture of my drain plug. Just don't understand why GM designed it this way. Must be a reason. If I can put a Fumoto valve in, that is what I plan on doing. Just got to make sure it will work and not mess anything up. Can't see why it would. On to the pictures.

Oil pressure guage stopped working/reading 0. Needle does not move from 0 when key is turned on. Verified that engine does have good oil pressure. I did have an oil leak problem right around the same time the gauge stopped working. Turned out to be oil cooler lines. How should I go about troubleshooting this?

I have a 2" level on the front of my truck and some taller tires, and now I can't reach the dipstick for the engine oil. Not a major thing but it's a pain having to get a step stool out just to reach and check my oil level. Has anyone found a GM or aftermarket dipstick with a longer handle on it that will work on this engine ?

So, we recently had a UOA done on the site's 2011 GMC Sierra project truck. We have the 5.3L and aside from the factory oil fill, we used Pennzoil Platinum synthetic on the first oil change. We've taken the truck out to 0% on the oil life monitor for each of the first two changes. The truck currently has under 20k miles. A few weeks ago we finally got around to performing the 2nd oil change. This time around, we filled up with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic. When draining the oil we grabbed a sample to send off for analysis. Here it is: Can anyone help me shed some light on how this UOA looks? Is it normal? I understand copper levels can be higher on these engines due to the oil cooler. Thanks for the help

I need some feed back of what the problem might be. The oil gauge in my truck is unstable it moves back and forth and based on past cars, the oil gauge was always stable.

I have a 2008 Silverado Crew Cab LTZ 6.0L engine, just broke 63k miles. Recently when I "floor" it and am in high rpms above 4800 there is a burning smell & actual rattling coming from either the engine or transmission. I cant quite put my finger on it, trying to get an idea of what it could be before going to a mechanic. At about 35000 miles they had to rebuild my trans because some of the gears got tore up & lost their bites, I use to drive it very hard and fast, but since then I do not.

Picked up a 2002 Sierra Regular Cab in October with 53k miles on it. Interior and paint is mint. Has a little rear end noise, changed out the fluid and gasket - used Red Line Gear oil. Not much help reducing the noise but will drive it like I stole it until it needs to be replaced. As a daily driver what is the best oil for the engine? 42 mile commute, morning 70 - 80 MPH. Afternoons can be anything from stop and go traffic to 70-80 MPH.

For a 2003 Silverado 1500 HD, what do you recommend for the differential oil? I had already purchased some Redline for a bout $9 per quart, but I am having second thoughts about using it because it has the limited slip additive already in it, and I was advised not to use it. At the dealership, the GM diff oil is $38 per quart. I think that's way too much, so I was wondering what is a good non GM diff oil recommendation. Also, just curious, what exactly will, or could, happen if I use a diff oil with the additive, e.g., Redline? Thanks, George

Hello, I am new here to the site and have a oil leak that I am not sure where it is coming from. I have a 2001 Chevrolet 2500HD. The leak seems to be dipping off the starter bolts and the starter is covered in engine oil. There is also oil all over the bell housing as well. This is what makes it tricky to diagnose. At first I thought it was the rear main seal but after I saw it dripping from the starter I thought it must be something else. What could it be that is leaking on or above the starter? Any ideas or comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
