This is my first post so sorry if I’m all over the place. I’ve had my 2014 Sierra slt for about two years now. I got it with 116k miles and I’m at about 174k right now. Since the day I’ve bought the truck it’s been nothing but issues. You name it, it’s happened. Four separate water leaks (sunroof, gps antenna, third brake light, and cab vents), 2 transfer case control modules, problems with the power steering going out, brakes going out at low speeds. A couple of months ago my transmission went out and it also needed various other repairs totaling over $20k. Now my park assist sensors don’t work, my rear doors don’t open from the inside and also don’t lock from the outside, reverse lights and camera don’t work, and it constantly dings at me to service my trailer brake system (seriously, it chimes at me about every two seconds as I’m going down the road, telling me to service the trailer brakes). I’ve gone through and checked every ground I can find and nothing helps. Today I went through every single fuse and relay in the truck. I found a couple of blown fuses and replaced as needed, but still no change. I’m at a loss for what to do at this point as I’m stuck with the truck after all the money I’ve sunk into it. Does anybody maybe have any solutions to any of these problems? I’m desperate for answers, anything helps. -
So I bought a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 All terrain. In the last 5 months "which would be how long I have owned it" I have replaced the drivers door window regulator, Drivers door wiring harness and window motor again. And the transmission. Now if I'm driving on wet roads and hit a decent bump I lose power steering. Once the truck sits for awhile its fine. I took it in to a GM shop and had them look if maybe somehow the recall was reset when they programmed my tranny. They added the current updated fix for power steering and tried charging me for it which after some talking I got for free. They said if that doesn't fix the problem there is a bulletin that calls for going through wires to find an issue. I 99% certain there is a wire or censor that gets wet and when you hit a bump it sends a code and shuts off the power steering but I'm looking for some help from someone who has maybe already solved this to save me some time and money. -

Please help. My husband and I have been racking our brains. We have replaced the power steering pump, the return and high pressure lines as well as the gaskets. The leak seems to be coming from the area of the lines but since everything is brand new we can't figure it out. It leaks slowly when the 05 Sierra is parked but when driving it leaks faster. Any ideas would be helpful

Hey Guys, I have a 2005 Chev 1500 Work Truck model, 4.8L v8, auto, 4x4, tow package. I tried a search on here for my issue, but found only people posting the same issue as me and no one actually posted back that something fixed the issue (that I could find) My power steering starts failing when my truck is warm, the longer it runs, the less the power steering works. It gets to the point in the summer that it's basically like manual steering and I have to crank the wheel so hard that my steering wheel starts to get a bunch of play in it. Someone said that it could be the power steering sensor, but I just don't know why it would start working fine when I start up the truck and get worse as I drive more? Has anyone had this problem and has found the cause for it? The pump whines when it's struggling too, it gets louder/worse when the wheel is harder to turn, but it's not a bad sound, just a labored power steering pump thats making up for something not working. Any help is awesome Thanks

Last week i decided to level my 2014 4wd silverado. in the process of removing the plugs from the eps i broke the upper most plug and now its loose. I have been trying to find where i can buy a replacement but have had no luck. where could i buy one? or what would be the proper name for the plug so i can do a better job when trying to explain to people what im looking for. thanks in advance. -
Everytime i turn on my truck i get a message saying ,"steering assist reduced drive with care" I took it to the dealer but they didnt want to work on it sence its lifted and all of the warranty is voided. Sounds like bs to me?? Any one with similar issue ?!?!? Its a 2017 silverado z71

Hey all, I will start from the beginning here. Purchased my new 2017 Sierra Elevation Edition in February 2017. Drove it off the lot with 6 miles on it. This is my first new vehicle so its been a little discerning to me that this has more issues than any used car I have owned before. A few weeks after owning the truck, my microphone stopped working for my phone calls and the onstar stopped working all together. My OnStar module died and they replaced it with a new one. About 5 thousand miles later, my trucks radio screen started randomly going black, turning off all sound, then coming back on again. It would resume where it last was, phone call still intact or radio still on the right station. This went on for about 2 weeks then my dash lit up and chimed at me, the radio turned off like it does I get a warning of a Power Steering Failure. I call my local shop and get it in there right away. The drive in, the power steering worked just fine. They said the reading came back as High Voltage, they updated the computer and sent me on my way. Fast Forward to 3 weeks later, my truck starts doing the radio off again but this time the dash lights all shut off too. I can't be sure but it seems to do it when its wet outside. It did not have problems after I was in the shop but it was also dry outside. I also noticed when this happens the voltmeter spikes high. I am dropping my truck off again the Tuesday after Christmas. Does anyone have experience with this before? The shop told me last time they have never seen this before. Thanks! -
Hey fellas, I've been noticing a whining noise coming out of the front-left side of my truck over the last few days. It's been colder lately, around -6°C or so. It sounds identical to a power steering pump that's low on fluid or on it's way out. However, the truck has electronic power steering and does not use fluid. Has anyone here noticed a whining type of sound that increases with engine RPM and figured out what's going on? It somewhat comes and goes, but generally is very noticeable all the time. Would rather figure it out before whatever is causing the sound inevitably gives out or falls apart. Thanks, -
Howdy, My little 4.3 '04 GMC Sonoma is puking power steering fluid (not spraying) when the pump is running. I went camping for a few days, came back to town and there was a puddle under the gearbox. When the pump is not running there is a pretty steady drip off the nut connecting the arm to the gearbox. I can see a curtain of fluid forming above it. When I run the pump and turn the wheel, the fluid just starts oozing right out of that space above the connection from the arm to the box. By the time I have driven 10 miles the surrounding areas of the undercarriage are coated in fluid. The hoses could stand to be replaced, but it would appear the problem is definitely a seal. I don't consider myself mechanically inclined, but I can do some work. I've changed plugs, oil, carbs; but I need guidance. Plus, I really don't have the money to throw at a mechanic to do something I could conceivably do myself. My question(s): if the problem is a seal, how much of a pain in the ass is it to fix? Is it worth replacing the seal and if not what should I do? What are the risks of DIY? Will I absolutely need an alignment post fix? What am I looking at for cost; DIY and/or having a garage do the work? I won't be driving the rig much in the next couple months but until then I kinda need it to get from A to B. I live in California 100% of my is freeway or other paved road and has never been below 40 degrees. I had intermittent problems with power steering my owners manual said when I got the service power steering alert to stop turn the truck off and exit vehicle. I did this and it would sort of reboot itself and I would be on my way. Finally after my warranty exspired it went out completely. I took it to the dealership and was told that diagnostic code read C0475 found that steering needs to be replaced due to internal failure , and that it would cost $2700.00 to fix it. I declined to have it fixed and took it to my own Mechanic who put it on his diagnostic machine and he got the same code C0475 only he was able to reset it for $40.00 . When I called the dealership service person who tried to rip me off he said that when they get that code GM tells them to replace it period, what I don't understand is if there is internal failure to a steering gear !!!! How can it be fixed electronically. I have filed a complaint with the bureau of automotive repairs and I hope you do to this is definitely a faulty design issue and should be a recall notice. -

I just bought a 99 chevy silverado 1500 and it has no power steering. I checked for leaks and none were found, no noise coming from the pump, no metal shavings in the fluid, and hoses are stiff. Im at a loss im not sure what this issue is. could it be clogged? if so how to test. is the gear box bad? if so how do i test. any input is appricated. -
Well I"ve read quite a few post about power steering problems and fixes. As a former gm mechanic I'm a little frustrated to say the least. I've never been test and guess and hate to start now. Plus at my age don't really want to perform either repair. Pump or Gear. So lets start. The steering has been a little strange since new (2004 GMC sierra crew 5.3L gas) noisy grumpy at times when turning, but not a power steering whine. All of the sudden power steering starts whining and groaning like crazy and almost no power steering , kind of comes and goes between real bad and no assist at all. Works better at high rpm, but still very noisy and fluid is aerated/bubbles. Let set and start cold, no noise and steering works for a few seconds then gets air, goes noisy and back to where I started. Flushed the system and if anything worse now. Pumped fluid out like crazy when I flushed it. Could I have a bad cooler or air getting into system? No Leaks. I was going to hook up my old ps tester, but can't find adapters for the thing to metric. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2015 LTZ Z71 and sometimes (usually at high speeds in the highway) I turn and the steering wheel gets hung up and I have to straighten the wheel out. If I don't straighten the wheel, the car continues to turn. The dealer couldn't duplicate or pinpoint the issue. Anyone have any ideas -
I have 2015 Sierra, Power steering went out while driving last Wednesday June 15th, towed to closest dealership. On-line recall GMC 14743 for Steering electronic power assist system. does not cover my VIN...anyone else have power steering issues?

I am at a loss. I was backing up out of a parking lot when I felt a slight pop and my power steering stopped working. We've replaced the PS pump and the Gear box, we also replaced a bad CV Axel. Still no power steering though!? What else could it be?

I'm about to do a power steering pump replacement. The AC-Delco part comes with instructions on how to vacuum bleed the system with special tool "J 43485", which is hard to find. There is a reference-able thread on the corvette forums on how to make a tool with a tub stopper here... http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5-tech/2535860-clutch-bleeding-from-the-mc-or-the-j-43485-mityvac-adapter.html I made a similar hack with a toilet flapper... I have a 07' 2500hd classic. A couple weeks ago I changed the power steering gear box due to a leak. I changed the box and a couple of new symptoms occurred. The truck would pull to the right and it was easy to steer to the right and hard to the left. I took the truck in to get an alignment and after replacing a bad ball joint (passenger side lower), idler arm, and tie rod (driver), the shop could not get the truck to stop pulling to the right and the steering is still easy to the right and hard to the left. The shop performed all the steering component work besides the gear box. The shop is reputable and well trusted. The shop thought that I should warranty the gear box and try a different reman unit. So after changing my box a second time, the same symptoms continued and shop tried aligning again but still no dice. The box is a 33 spline sector napa reman unit. Since then Ive also checked for brake issues (to see if brake is holding), changed power steering dampener, sway bar links (not intending that this was causing the issue). Because this issue started after I changed the box the first time, how likely is it that I received a bad gear box twice?? Any other ideas?

New to the forum, new to diy car repair. I have a 2004 Chevy Suburban Z71, 130k miles. Runs and drives great, but when we first start the vehicle, the power steering is non existent until it warms up a little. There is no power steering to the left or right. Once everything warms up it drives fine. I've read some people suggest power steering flush, there is air trapped somewhere, power steering pump replacement, and intermediate gear box replacement. I am doing all repairs myself these days, any help would be greatly appreciated!! -
I started my truck up to move it and heard a weird noise and I had no power steering and no power brakes. Looked under the hood and one of the lines going to gear box had popped off (I'm guessing its just a return line because it was just clamped on). I put the line back on and filled the fluid. After driving back and forth on the driveway turning the wheel 50 times I finally got steering and brakes back. Drove it around for an hour and haven't had anymore problems. What could have cause the line to blow off? and do I need to worry about this happening while i'm driving down the road.

Hey, I am new to this so I just wnated to say, "Hi" and also ask a question. I was messing around in my 2002 XL Denali in the snow and was doing "dounuts". When I came out of one I had lost my power steering. I check the fuild and it was showing full (cold). The belt is fine and I am not hearing any noise from the pump. Before the "dounut" all was working fine. I also did not have anything come on telling me I had low fuild. I have only had this truck for five months and have not had a problem with it until now. Would love to have any information with this issue? Thanks! Jason
