  1. As a parent company, General Motors is smart to cover all angles in the marketplace, but doing so with each of its many brands has gone bad in the past. Caddy needs to pick a plan and stick with it. Sales are down at a time when Lexus and BMW are posting strong growth. Lexus' CT hybrid hatchback came within 200 units of outselling the CTS in August.
  2. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 9/11/2015 Has Cadillac lost its way? Today, Automotive News reports that Cadillac's Chief Marketing Officer Uwe Ellinghaus said the company's goal with its newest vehicle, the XT5 "... is to gain the attention of fashionistas, rather than cater to car buffs and auto journalists. Because in his view, younger customers are less interested in the technical details of cars, and don't read car magazines as often as they used to." We're not sure anyone reads any "magazines" anymore, but Mr. Ellinghaus at least seems to have a direction for the struggling luxury automaker to head in. Except that Cadillac is not heading that way according to Motor Trend's Jonny Lieberman, who reports that the next car-buff Cadillac will be an Escalade powered by the same engine as the Corvette. This follows the new CTS-V, which is targeted at car buffs and is powered by an engine like the one in the Corvette. 3. Seen this driving the other day. Interior looks like an Escalade but rear end makes me think otherwise couldn’t get a look at the front. https://imgur.com/a/n7lLtJC IMG_2143.MOV
  4. So, I want to know what it would take or if it can be done, switching some heated/ac seats out of a Cadillac Escalade Platinum model into my 2007 GMC Sierra 3500HD SLT. Then also switching the control panel in the center console for it also. I just want to know if anyone has done this and if it can be added and done???
  5. I have a 2000 yykon denali, new battery, alternator, light switch. When you shut the vehicle off and exit with keys, the headlights and tail lamps will sometimes flicker or illuminate. Can hear something like a relay clicking under the dash. Sometimes its all of them and sometimes just park lamps. Advise please.
  6. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 9-11-2019 General Motors has announced that NHTSA is mandating a safety recall for the following vehicles: 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Pickups (1500 / 2500 / 3500) 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade NHTSA reports that the amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time. The group says that as the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, and that this increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. This new recall covers 3.4 million vehicles. The Problem: The brake pump uses engine oil to lubricate itself. If the pump becomes clogged with engine oil sludge the units ability to create vaccum is diminished over time. As a result, braking force and ability also drops. The issue is usually accompanied by a "Service Brake Assist" warning message in the dash. The Fix: GM will reprogram the computer that controls the secondary brake assist pump. The secondary pump will now activate at lower speeds and different situations quicker to compensate for any lost output from the main pump. Since the pumps are not failing, GM has decided not to replace them. GM's number for this recall is N192268490. In compliance with federal law, GM will notify owners, typically by snail mail. GM says that its dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module. However, GM has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. If you own one of these vehicles and wish to check to see if your vehicle is included (or not) you can do so at this link immediately. As with every safety recall, customers will not be charged by GM for the needed repairs or modifications. NHTSA's public information on this issue indicates that many accidents have been reported to NHTSA including some with injuries. This recall is the result of a NHTSA investigation that lasted nearly a year. In its investigation report, NHTSA noted the following details about the problem:
  7. I have two driver side mirrors (long story) that will fit 2016+ Escalade and can be added to Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon Xl but you'll have to retrofit the camera if you want it working on anything other than the Escalade. Think there are some posts here on that. These mirrors are fully operational with no blemishes. One mirror has the black cover and the other has a silver cover that's been removed with one of the cover clips broken and also one of the clips broken where it connects to the door. Door clip won't matter as the three bolts hold securely. The mirror with the black cover is $160.00 plus shipping The mirror with the removed silver cover with broken clip is $120.00 plus shipping. Prefer local pickup in DFW area. Mirrors include the following options: -Heated -Power fold -Blind spot -Auto sim -Camera -Puddle light -Turn Signal
  8. My right rear turn signal is out. I bought my wife a 2007 Escalade ESV. Nice truck but OMG its got some electrical gremlins. I've been scouring the internet for some wiring diagrams and actually did find some good stuff on gmupfitter.com. Anyway, I'm getting power to the RT Turn/Stop fuse in the I/C fusebox on the left side of the dash. I assume this means my BCM is working. However, the D-GN wire at the Rt. Rear tail lamp is not getting power. Looking for some information on where that wire runs from the fuse box back to the lamp harness. It would appear that the wire runs behind the spare tire to the drivers side and then into the cabin and along the door rail under the plastic thresholds. Is the wire the same color all the way to the front? is there any connectors between the front I/C fuse box and the rear lamp assembly that should be checked? Looking for any thoughts or wire schematics that would help me trace this wire back to hopefully discover a break or something like that. Getting tired and weak but want to stay away from the dealer as I think they will have to search just like me. Thanks for any help that you might have...
  9. Hello everyone, I recently bought this clean title, high mileage 2000 Silverado LS Z71 from my coworker. It was right before Christmas and I really wanted to help the guy out knowing full well I could do something with it. Heck, I needed a truck after all. I get home and attempt to drain the oil but nothing comes out. After some poking around with a screwdriver, I get it to drain. Chunks are flowing along with the oil and it turns out there was so much sludge build up in the bottom of the pan, it sucked some up, suffered a momentary loss of oil pressure and spun the bearing. I know the transmission had a hard shift from first to second. Could it be low fluid? Maybe, but why do the swap just to find out the transmission is bad? My coworker friend was a smoker and it appears he preferred his coffee without a lid so the interior is....interesting. Also truck only has oxidation on the hood and fenders so the only reasonable choice was to find a salvaged donor vehicle to source parts from!! I have a buddy with a dealers license and I'm debating picking up this rear ended 2006 Escalade for a FULL front end/interior/dash/drivetrain swap. Can it be done? Plug and play? Anything someone doing something like this should know? I've done some pretty crazy engine swaps and garage rebuilds, 2 stroke porting early on, etc. I have the ability but hopefully you folks can chime in and confirm whether or not it is possible or if there is a better option. I was also looking at a 2004 Duramax/6speed which was t-boned pretty good as a potential candidate but there's something about that plush Escalade interior....
  10. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 11-28-2018 Just two days after announcing that it is doubling its efforts on electric vehicles, GM's Cadillac division has released a new trim for one of its least energy-efficient vehicles, the Escalade. The general theme of the new Escalade is all-black everything and huge wheels. The 2019 Sport Edition will be available in either 2WD or 4WD and will have the 6.2-liter V8 engine. The Midnight Silver finish on the standard 22-inch wheels with low-profile rubber offset the all-black exterior nicely. The suspension will feature Magnetic Ride Control. Inside, there are bucket seats in the second row. “Two decades after its introduction, the Escalade remains the segment’s benchmark and sales leader,” said Steve Carlisle, Cadillac president. “The Sport Edition extends that momentum in response to customer and dealer demand for a dark and aggressive look.” The full list of features include: -Magnetic Ride Control with driver-selectable modes. -Available 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot (includes 3GB/three-month data trial). -Automatic Parking Assist. -Fold-flat second- and third-row seats with power-folding third row. -Heated and cooled front seats with heated second-row bucket seats. -Heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel with wood accents. -12.3-inch-diagonal instrument cluster display with high-resolution digital driver information center. -Bose Centerpoint audio system featuring 16 speakers. -Hands-free liftgate with Cadillac logo illumination. The Sport Edition is a $2,700 option package on the Escalade, which starts at $85K. Look for availability in Q1 of 2019.
  11. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 11-9-2018 Our colleagues at US News and World Report Autos have a new list of the best November new vehicle deals and the Cadillac Escalade stands out. According to USN, the folks at Cadillac are offering $7K cash back on the 2018 Escalade. Other interesting GM-related November deals include $5,000 back on the 2018 GMC Acadia $4,000 cash back on the 2018 Chevy Cruze and $ 4,750 off the Buick Encore. US News speculates that Cadillac is feeling pressure from the newly redesigned Lincoln Navigator.

  13. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 11-8-2017 Cadillac dealers are offering owners of Lincoln vehicles $5,000 if they trade up to a Cadillac Escalade. Bloomberg confirmed the bounty program according to the Detroit News. The dealer memo obtained by Bloomberg says that the special offer applies to either a new purchase or a lease of an Escalade. The program is intended to maintain market share in light of the new Lincoln Navigator launch. Escalades are still selling at the same rate they were a year ago. Cadillac sells about 3,000 Escalade and ESVs combined each month. However, like all luxury vehicles, the Escalade, which starts at about $74K, is a vehicle that usually sees a sales spike in the December timeframe. It is no secret that although the Escalade is a relatively low-volume vehicle for GM, it is a very high-profit one. The all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator features a 450 hp, twin-turbocharged V6 engine (that many will recognize as the Ford EcoBoost found in the top-trims of the F-150). Images show the new Lincoln Navigator.
  14. My 2002 6.0 AWD Escalade recently starting making loud popping sounds only during acceleration. I had a shop take a look at it and said it was my transfer case. My question is does a 2002 denali xl with 6.0 AWD and so will the transfer case fit my Escalade? The transfer case that came out the Denali is a np149 but will it function correctly on my Escalade? I'm a little confused because I heard I need the Denali vin to make sure it won't blow my transmission?
  15. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 9-4-2016 When the new head of Cadillac came from Infiniti, he brought the failed model naming methodology along. At Infiniti, even memorable cars and crossovers ( and they now have many) are difficult to converse about. Every one of them is a "Q." Wait, doesn't Audi use Q as well? Even autowriters and fans of the Infiniti brand cannot keep up. The effect at Cadillac was not as significant, until now. At Cadillac, the cars have been converging onto fewer nameplates. Excuse our mis-capitalization, but we want illustrate an effect: Ats is easy to differentiate from Cts. Different first initial, and most importantly, when you pronounce them "Aye tee ess" and "See tee ess" they don't sound alike. On the written page, or the back of a moving vehicle, they are also easy to tell apart because an A looks quite different than a C. The conventional wisdom holds that if one is able to see a vehicle that one likes, or read about one, or hear about one, the new fan might then look deeper, or even purchase one. Knowing the name helps. Another school of thought is that the models should NOT be different in the eyes and ears of the consumer, and in fact, the BRAND, in this case, Caddy, is all that should matter. Hence the new method of having all the model names be indistinguishable. Consider the Cadillac XT5 and XTS. A 5 and an S are the most similar two characters in the English lexicon aside from the number 0 and the capital letter O. These two vehicles, a huge sedan and a mid-sized crossover, have the same name for all intents and purposes. Cadillac's newest 2017 sedan model is named CT6. How different are the CT6 and CTS names? Add one little dot on the tail of the S and they are identical. They also roll off the tongue the same. Still, we have managed. Now the newest Cadillac prototype has been revealed. However, you won’t be able to find it on the internet. Its name is Escala. That is not a typo. The newest model name from Cadillac is the exact same name as a current model with the two last letters left off. The Escalade is one of the most iconic names and images in American motoring. It is a huge, square, body-on-frame luxury SUV. The new Escala is a low, sleek, sedan prototype. Why in the world would Cadillac use the same first six letters of an existing model to identify this new model concept? Johan de Nysschen, president of Global Cadillac, said of the new vehicle, "Escala is a statement of intent for the next iteration of the Cadillac design language, and also technical concepts in development for future Cadillac models. Secondly, Escala builds Cadillac’s aspirational character, signaling the brand’s return to the pinnacle of premium.” If you search in your browser for "Escala" you will see images of the vehicle at the top of our story. But that is not what the Escala is. It is the vehicle shown below. We assume that this is not an accident and that Cadillac intended this to be the case, or it is the funny marketing team over there just having a laugh at our expense. Which do you think it is?
  16. I lurk around here a bit. I have got some great information from this forum. So thank you all for sharing your experiences. On a recent trip someone broke my passenger outside mirror on my 2009 Yukon XL SLT . So that started this whole project. The biggest one yet on this vehicle. So please bear with me as I explain everything. Also please make corrections to anything I write, I am not very good at the terminology used. So here goes... What I am trying to do? 1. Add LED lighting to the foot well area both in the front and rear seats. 2. Add LED lighting under the running boards and rear bumper. 3. Add LED lighting to each door panel, so it lights up when the door is open . What I have access to? 1. The Driver Side knee panel and fuse panels are open. 2. The Junction Box in the Driver Side Foot Well is open. 3. The door Panels are taken off. 4. Side view mirrors are completely disassembled for Fold Motor Repair. So the wires are sticking out of the little hole in the door. How I would like it to work? 1. The interior lighting will come on with the dome lighting. I would prefer that the foot well does not light up when the truck is on. So when I am driving and I turn on the dome light only the dome light comes on. This is only a preference. If it cannot be accomplished I am ok with it. 2. Door panel lights only come on when the door is opened. They should stay turned off if the door is closed . Again this is a preference. I can mount the light at the bottom of the panel so it is not a distraction. 3. Lights under the running boards should only come on when the truck is unlocked and when I turn off the car (Perhaps use it with Aproach and Exit Lighting). They should always stay off if the truck is on. So while I am driving they should never come on. I am upgrading from DL8 to DL3. The DL3 I got, have no puddle lamps. But it does have the white connector with six wires. I know that Light Blue and Yellow are the ones for folding motor. { On a side note... rather than changing and reprogramming the Window Switch modules, I am installing timed realys that will Fold And Unfold the Mirrors. } The way I am thinking to wire this up is as follows: Tap into dome light wire. If I understand correctly, there is a brown wire in the X14 Junction Box area. I will run this wire to Relay #1 just to charge or discharge the relay. The relay will then power (from X14 connector) all interior add on lighting, including foot well and door panels. Also it will run power to Relay 2. I am hoping to tap into ‘Ignition On’ wire somewhere that will charge or discharge Relay #2. This relay will be Always Closed (NC) until charged, at which time it will Open (NO) to stop power going to Outside lights. OR ... Relay 2 could be charged and discharged with the Approach and Exit Lighting . Then the exterior Lights will only come on when the Approach and Exit Lights come on. I hope everything is clear until this point. My questions: 1. Where is the best place to tap into Ignition on power? I prefer not to open the Steering Column. Is there any wire inside the truck that gets charged when the truck is started? Or would I have to tap in to II position of the key. OR... where is best place to tap into the Appraoch and Exit Circuit. 2. Is there power in the door (hopefully in the white connector) that I can tap into? 3. What is the best place to run the wire to the outside without drilling? I am hoping to utilize a predrilled hole to run the wire. I would prefer not to go thru the Firewall. 4. For the interior lighting, since I am running thru a relay, is there a way for it to have a “Diming to OFF” effect? Not really important. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

  18. First up, the Malibu and Impala basically crushed the list by winning the two most important categories, mid-size car and large car. Those two categories really are the two actual family car categories and GM should be proud to have earned the wins. Of the new Malibu, U.S. News said, "Testers say the redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is a strong contender with class leaders thanks to its spacious seats, user-friendly infotainment system and good trunk space. The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu has the best combination of interior space, safety and reliability ratings, and available family-friendly features in its class, making it our 2016 Best Midsize Car for Families." Note that U.S. News wisely includes reliability and safety in this type of vehicle. U.S. News gets it. Meanwhile, over at the "car magazines" they are doing top speed runs in 4-cylinder economy cars and talking about "lift throttle oversteer at high Gs." There are families that want big, and the Yukon delivers. We just tested the 2016 Yukon Denali, and it is hard to argue there is a better beast that does what it does. The Escalade wins its category too. Some families do want luxury along with size and the Escalade coddles you and the rest of your basketball team. Check out the rankings here for yourself. Look for our new road test format coming soon. The Denali will be the first up.
  19. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 3/9/2016 The staff at GM-trucks.com are fortunate to count some of the key people at U.S. News and World Report as friends and colleagues. We admire their novel way of surveying the rest of the motor press and drawing conclusions about which cars are best based on a compilation of review results. They also back up their findings by testing vehicles themselves. This week, the folks at U.S. News released their 2016 list of Best Cars For Families. 21. GM isn't actually building any wind new turbines. Not to be skeptical, but that isn't how this clean energy thing works. Rather, GM signed a power supply deal with EDP Renewables North America who has 261 massive wind turbines operating in Texas. Fifteen of them will be sort of designated for GM and the power they create will "save" 1 million metric tons of CO2 form being produced during the production of 125K vehicles per year. GM can now claim that some of its full-sized SUVs are "Build using clean energy." Even better, GM says that its agreement will save the company $2.8 million in energy costs each year.
  22. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 12/10/2015 A few years back doing a story on clean energy I was surprised to learn that Texas was the leader in North America in terms of wind power production. So I was not very surprised to learn that General Motors is planning to use wind-generated electricity to partly power its Arlington, TX plant. The Arlington plant, located in a suburb of Dallas, makes 'Burbans, Escalades, and Yukons. GM isn't actually building any wind new turbines. 25. By Zane Merva Executive Editor, GM-Trucks.com 12/20/2014 The answer is looking like "yes". General Motors is actively preparing "contingency plans" in case the automaker has to issue another round of recalls related to the Takata Airbag scandal. Update: General Motor's representative Alan Adler tells us "There are no known air bag issues with the GMT900 full-size trucks. There is no recall planned. GM uses multiple air bag suppliers, sometimes more than one on a vehicle. All air bags are tested as components, in systems and finally on vehicles before production begins." Update 2: 12/23/14 - GM would not clarify any additional statement and would not explain why the Reuters/Yahoo article mentioned the GMT-900 trucks if there was no concern. Source: Yahoo Finance
