John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 7-10-2019 The 2020 Enclave Premium and Avenir trims from Buick will up the ante this coming year. Buick is offering massage front seats in these trims. Massage seats have long been one of the benchmarks we at GM-Trucks.com look for in a vehicle that claim to be luxury vehicles. Two others are a heated steering wheel and Android Auto. “Buyers are choosing the Buick Enclave because it is everything they want in a premium crossover with its distinct styling, quality and driving dynamics,” said Phil Brook, vice president of Buick and GMC marketing. “For the 2020 model year, we’re upping the comfort with available massaging seats, bringing in a new and different look for customers with Sport Touring and enhancing our in-vehicle technology to provide more of what these customers want.” The combination of Android Auto, massage front seats, and a heated steering wheel are not available on any current Lexus, Rolls Royce, or BMW vehicle sold in America. Maybe someday they will earn our luxury designation...

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 3-19-2019 GM's import brand, Buick, is slashing its prices on the most popular vehicles in the company's lineup. Each of the company's top-selling models are discounted by double-digit percentages. The Encore subcompact crossover makes up about half of Buick's total sales. Buick is now offering discounts of up to $6,276 a whopping 23% of its new-vehicle price. These are 2019 model-year vehicles, not leftovers. The Envision two-row crossover is now being discounted by as much a $7,015. The Enclave is being discounted by a staggering $9,423. Buick is running television advertisements tied to the March madness hoop tourneys to promote the fire sale pricing. There are impressive deals on the Regal and Cascada and also the Lacrosse available. Check out Buick's website for details on the deals being offered through the end of March.

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 6-25-2018 A new study by our friends at iSeeCars looks at which vehicles had the largest decline in retained value after three years. In the crossover category, the SRX is the top vehicle in this regard with a 47% reduction in value from its new car MSRP. The second best deal on a three-year-old crossover the study found was the three-year-old Buick Enclave which sells for just under 46% of its price new. iSeeCars.com analyzed more than 4.1 million car sales to identify which models had the greatest loss in value after three years. The BMW 5 Series was the top vehicle with an incredible 53% loss in valuation. Commenting on why the SRX and Enclave found their way to this list, iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly said, “The Cadillac SRX and the Buick Enclave, make the otherwise car-dominated list in the ninth and tenth spots making them attractive options for people interested in this booming vehicle segment. Trucks and truck-based SUVs are known for having the highest value retention, which explains why these vehicle types are absent from the top 10 list. Trucks as a vehicle category depreciate 23.3 percent in three years, which is two-thirds of the 35 percent average across all vehicle segments.” The SRX was replaced by the XT5 in Cadillac’s lineup. The name change may be helping push down the vehicle’s value. “Discontinued cars typically have lower resale values than cars still in production,” explained Ly.

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 1/21/2016 The recently revealed 2017 GMC Acadia gets smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient for 2017. With such close model alignment between GMC, Buick, and Chevy one would assume that the 2017 models of the Traverse and Enclave would follow suit. However, Automotive News (AN), a publication we hold in very high regard, is reporting that it thinks otherwise. This is based partly on a short comment by GM's Mark Reuss (who our own Zane Merva interviewed recently and who was kind enough to spend some time with this writer chatting off the record). In the context of whether the Chevy and Buick large crossovers would follow this smaller design of the GMC, Reuss is quoted as saying “The brand separation in size and mission and the positioning of these vehicles has never been more differentiated.” This makes Automotive News think GM will not keep the three amigos aligned. AN further speculates that GM will create a new crossover to slot in between the Equinox/Enclave. The problem with that logic is that Buick has just launched the new Envision, which is smaller than the Equinox by a little bit. Our take on the crossovers from GM is that they will be changing and they will be more aligned with the competition's model sizes. It is too early to tell how it will all shake out.

GM also announced it is recalling 90 (yup, just 90) 2016 Silverados and Sierras because a mounting stud for an airbag sensor was improperly positioned during assembly. All 90 were built on October 13th and 14th. Again, this was during the period of the voting for the new contract, in this case just before the vote. The defect also occurred on the Tuesday and Wednesday following a Monday holiday, Columbus Day. You can check right here at this link to see if your vehicle is affected by either recall.

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 1/6/2016 General Motors is recalling 2,633 Acadia, Traverse, Enclave 2016 models all made at the Lansing Michigan plant. The affected vehicles could have a defective weld in the third-row seat assembly that is a safety concern according to NHTSA. The welds were applied during November from the 6th to the 12th of the month. A few days before that the Union that represents the line workers held a vote on the new contract. It narrowly passed. 43% of the workers at the plant voted against it. The period also coincided with a holiday (Veterans Day) and a weekend. This is almost certainly a coincidence. Recalls happen so often now, and often to so few vehicles it is hard to know what we should highlight. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 3/26/2015 Buick credits the Enclave for the company's comeback. Eight years ago, the 3-row premium crossover bumped the segment out a bit and was Buick's first new hit. Last year's record sales for the crossover were worthy of some recognition. Thus, Buick has created a well-deserved bronze trophy for itself. The Enclave Tuscan Edition combines the popular Premium and Leather options. The Tuscan will feature a bronze grill and chrome wheels with bronze accents, and will be available in 3 distinctive colors, including White Frost Tricoat, Dark Chocolate Metallic and Ebony Twilight Metallic. Good morning everyone! I'm currently in Cincinnati, Ohio getting ready to drive the entire 2014 Buick line. That includes a significant refresh to the 2014 Regal and 2014 LaCrosse. I'm pretty pumped, because the new refreshed models are seriously nice. From leather wrapped volume knobs in the LaCrosse to an 8-inch LCD screen in the gauge luster in the Regal, these are not your father's Buick. A significant sidebar to all this is that 2014 is the 110th year for Buick. So, starting today at a little after 8am, eastern, check back in and we'll start our day driving the 2014 Buick lineup. Here's a few stock photos to show you the new LaCrosse and Regal to get started. Regal LaCrosse
