I just recently purchased an 82 s15 gypsy edition roller and it was setup for a 327. I want to put a 1996 350 vortec or a 2003 5.3 in it and a t5. I’m having a hard time trying to find a t5 out of a 90s s10 but i can easily find t5s out of 90s mustangs. I was wondering what would it take to use a mustang trans in this truck. Any other tips and tricks are greatly appreciated as well.

What’s parts will be needed that ive might have missed for the swap or has anybody done this type of swap? I will be getting a LS 427 1500 to 2000 hp deciding witch package to go with and it comes with full engine and transmission everything from wires efi kit, wires. The Whole works from motor to transmission I will just be adding headers, exhaust line , upgraded drive shaft, rear diff. The thing I’m stuck on is this so called swap in and out plug and play since am going from LT to LS 427 anybody have experience on what I might need for it to fitment issues ? New transmission crossmembers ? Motor mounts I just want to make sure there’s is nothing missing or I might be over looking prior purchasing. I understand if it was old to new but am here going from LT to LS on the truck project truck I must say. Anything helps those who have experience. Thank you

Hey y'all, I know this has been talked about a bunch but I just for some reason can't find the info I'm after. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500, with the 5.3 and 4l60e, its a non z71 but with the same gear ratio I believe. Now I have a couple questions. 1. I want to swap to a 6.0 (maybe with some mods like a small cam, headers, maybe an intake), the 5.3 in the truck has been rebuilt but was used as a work truck and is "tired" so to say. I know a lot of people have said that to make the simplest "plug-and-play" setup to grab a 6.0 from 04-06(07 classic?) and it will run on the stock 5.3 tune (but recommend getting it retuned) I know that you can use the stock 4l60e but put some money into it to make it be able to hold the power and torque of a 6.0. I also know that to swap to a 4l80e trans it would require a crossmember and wiring at least, along with a different driveshaft, and since its 4x4, possible a different transfer case? So answering my own question with confirmation from someone, I could use a 04-06(07 classic?) 6.0 and just do a slight build on the stock 4l60e (which is currently slipping hoping just torque converter)? So on to my next question, I want to swap a z71 axle under the truck rather than the stock open diff. Would it be easier to swap out just the diff or to swap the whole axle? Is there any wiring for the limited slip/locking diff in the z71 axle? And is there a difference in the front diff? Also the truck currently is on 33" tires, and I plan to go to 35"s so should I just wait and have the truck regeared with an aftermarket limited slip or locker? And one final question for the interior guys out there. I hate the 99-02 steering wheel. I wanna swap to a 03-06 steering wheel. I know that the airbag itself will fit if I grab it off a 03-04 HD truck because its single stage, but what about the splines on the steering shaft? are those the same as the 99-02 1500 trucks? Or do I still have to swap that out for a newer steering shaft? Also how bad is it to run heated leather seats in these trucks that didn't have them from factory? I'm doing a mini restobuild on the truck but still need it to be a daily driver. Thanks for any input guys!!!

engine swap Fuel Gauge Issue
ZenGrimWolf posted a topic in 1988-1999 Chevrolet & GMC C/K GMT400 Platform
First off, hello and thank you for taking the time to read this. I will start with specs and how the truck is put together to make this easier to understand. My truck is a 97 Chevy C1500. It originally came with a 4.3 Fuel Injected Engine. However the guy that owned it before me swapped in a 87 block style crate 350/5.7. He switched it over to carbeurated. Put a mechanical pump on it. Now when he ran the lines, he left the old fuel pump unit inside the tank. He just disconnected the power to the electric fuel pump, and the mechanical fuel pump on the block pulls its fuel THROUGH the inactive electric pump. (according to what he told me, still need to pull the tank and verify this, but wanted to get information first) So there's the basics. The issue im having is that my fuel gauge does not work. It is currently pegged about an inch or two past full. Now, Ive been told varying things. One person tells me that the fuel sender works independent of the electric pump, and that all i need to do is replace the sender and hook up only the level wires and leave the power to the in tank pump disconnected. Another tells me that the electric pump HAS to be powered for the level sender to work, and there's now way to make it work with myy setup. That's not even including the fuel level buffer module or whatever that i just heard about today -_- My question is this. How does the sender work in detail, and what is my best option for diagnosing and fixing my fuel gauge? Is there a way to make the fuel gauge in the dash work with the current setup, or do i need to get a separate specialized gauge and install it? Any and all help is appreciated. If y'all have any questions please do ask and i will do my best to answer them in an effort to get this issue figured out. (Picture attached. Harness wires: Purple wire is level sender wire. Gray wire is the power to the pump. Black wire on its own is i think the ground for the pump, black wire going into plug is ground for sender, according to the wiring diagram i reviewed.) -
Hello, I will be doing an engine swap in my s-10 fairly soon. The specific truck I have is a 1992 s-10 ext. cab 2.5l 4-banger, with RWD and a 5 speed manual. What I am thinking for engine/ tranny is a Chevy 350 with a NV3500 transmission. It would be easier for me to find a 350 that already has a NV4500 married to it, but I have heard that it is difficult to fit a NV4500 in an s-10. I can't find any info for my exact model, so I'm asking if the combo of the 350/nv3500 will be a good fit. I won't be racing this truck, I just want more get-up and towing capacity. if you know of a better setup I am very open. also originally I was thinking of putting a 5.3 Vortec instead of the 5.7/350 but everyones been saying the 350 is easier.

I have a 1997 GMC 1/2 ton 2 wh dr Sierra ext cab with a 5.7L engine, bad automatic transmission. Will that engine fit and work in a 1995 1 ton 4x4 with a bad 6.5 diesel engine, 5 speed transmission, 1 ton truck. Kind of in a hurry for the info. Trying not to lose this 95 truck if it works.

Okay so I’m engine swapping my 4.3 v6 2003 Silverado to a 5.3 V8. I have purchased the engine and transmission and I’ve been putting it together in my free time. Recently I purchased what I thought was a stock Ls engine harness. Turns out I drove 1 hour and something minutes to find out he was selling me a “Stand Alone Harness.” Since I was there already I decided to buy it. Don’t ask me why just know it came at a impressive cheap price and it included a complete intake, fuel rails, k&n intake, fuse box & all that good stuff. Now my question is, what would change if i was to use the stand alone harness on my swap ? Would it even work ? I don’t have much knowledge on stand alone harnesses just that they are used in hot rods, c10s, obs, ect... Any help would be great!

I am swapping the engine from a wrecked 98 Chevy Cheyenne to a 92 Chevy Silverado. Can I just swap the engines and will it just work? Are the wiring harnesses compatible? I have heard that there is an adapter that is required, but I don't know if this is accurate information.

Hi All this is my first time posting here. I hope i got the right area and am doing this right. Anyways, I have read a few post about 'do i buy a truck with 8.1l or a Duramax.' Well my situation is a little different. I have a '05 2500 Suburban with a 496 and 4L85E. My 496 is burning oil like non other and everyone (including 3 dealerships) says to just rebuild/replace motor since I have 176K miles on her. I have always wanted to send my suburban to Eric at Duraburb and get a duramax & Allison put in. But now that I am in a position that I HAVE to get something done, I dont know which direction would be the best overall choice. I am stuck between getting the Duramax put in or getting a Raylar Motor which is bumped up to a 540ci! I have always loved my gas motors and had no issues. But have always thought, well i have a 2500 rig a nicely tuned diesel would be a great way to go. But after finding the Raylar guys and their motor a almost 700 hp 540ci suburban sounds pretty bas ass too! She's my daily driver. We sold the boat a few years ago and are looking to replace it with a 28ft or larger travel trailer or a Tritoon boat. So she still needs to be able to tow. Any personal thoughts on which way to go are welcome! Thanks in advance for any feedback.

New kid on the block and I sure coulds use some help. I have a 2wd 2005 sierra with a 4.3 vortec (blown) and 4l60e tranny. I was pretty much given a 98 jimmy with same tranny and motor except of course jimmy is 4wd. I (we) have swapped motors and everything was falling into place and then... The tranny wont engage. The fluid level is good linkage shifter working properly put fluid in torque converter before we installed it but no movement what so ever. Could someone tell me what to try next? When swapping engines we had to modify knocksensor swapped oil filter adapter and my buddy used the TC off of the Jimmy. He said the one originally in the sierra stuck out to far. Hell I believe him I wasnt there when that change took place I just know nthe truck didnt move. Right now I have the tranny disconnected and put the TC from the sierra back in tranny. I still neede to reconnect it but I thought Id ask for some guidance first. Thanks in advance for all the help. "Do sober what you said you would do while drunk. Good reliable places that offer quality warrantied used engines. Any experience in buying used engines from places is appreciated. The engine that is in there now is a 6.0 L Vortec from 2005. Go

Wrecked my 2000 2500 6.0 truck. Have found a 2001 roller that had a duramax in it. I have my complete trucj to use as parts. I think these models are similar in harnesses (no change) , but wondering if most engine and body harnesses would clip up? I know I need to change fuel tank and lines and would need to change gauge clusters, but anything else? Will be a big project, but as long as wiring doesn't get me stuck then I am on board..... I think!

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site. I have a 1988 GMC Sierra 1500 long bed pickup. It has a 305 Tbi with a turbo 400 and 3.42 rear end I have a 1993 350 Tbi engine and I want to install it with a 700R4 transmission. I will have to get a different PROM (chip) for the 350 and 700r4......."ASDU" i think I have 3 speed cluster in it now. Will I have to change it?...The 700R4 is a 4 speed What all do I have to change for the engine and transmission to fit? ( drive shaft, and etc) I have a 1991 GMC Sierra 1500 5.0L engine, 700r4 transmission for a donor truck Will I have to change the wiring harness under the hood? or all of it?

I have a 95 GMC K2500 5 speed with the 350 TBI and manual Tcase which I believe is the NP241 and the 5 speed I know is an NV4500. I don't think it's got the granny gear but I don't know for sure. It also has a 3.73 Posi. Good running truck for me, but you can't get much power out of a tbi. So before I dump money in it, I want others opinions for what's best. I am selling my '91 Corvette and using that money for my truck. I am wondering what you guys think is the best swap out there without having to do too much work, and being able to retain my current trans, tcase etc. I don't have the funds to swap those, so what's the best out there? I was thinking of doing a built 383 tpi build, or a 383 LT1 build just because what I currently have, would bolt to the block of both of those. What I really want to do is a Dmax LBZ swap but money is a playing factor in this. I guess the numbers I want to make are 350 plus HP and around 400 torque. I want to know prices etc. I could really use the help, thhank you.

i have a 99 sierra 2500 and want to drop a 2013 sierra 2500 engine into it. my question is, how hard will it be to do this. i am mechanically inclined and know i can mechanically fit this engine in my 99 by modifying a few things, but i am concerned on the electrical. i know i will have to use the ecu and wiring harness off the 2013 but i definitely need advise before i get into this massive project. i have the complete totaled doner car so i can use whatever i need of that. i am really concerned with the electrical and how to connect it to my 99. will this be possible? easy as plug and play? thanks so much in advance.

Hey there everyone, New to the forum and seeking help! I spun a rod bearing on my oil burning 2008 Silverado 1500 LC9 @145,000kms (don't ask me how, I have no idea) When it comes down to it I can not find a lc9 for a reasonable price up here in Canada. However, I have found a low km complete LY5 for very cheap. I realize they are both afm, but my previous LC9 has flexfuel. I have never ran e85 nor will I ever. That being said will the LY5 drop in place of the LC9 without wiring / programming / any issues? I am in a bind and need to make a decision quickly. Thanks in advance for any help! Simon R

I have a 2000 silverado v6 short bed single cab 2wd. I just bought a 1990 3+3 one ton was going to convert to a dually but now I am thinking about pulling out that engine and putting it in my 1500. Any advise would be great, also anyone interested in doing the work? Live in the Phoenix Arizona area. Thank you.

I did an engine swap from a 4.8L to a 5.3L in my 2003 Silverado 1500 ext cab 4x4 last week, when I took the old engine out I left the AC system in tact (I just unbolted it from the engine and bolted it back to the new one in order to avoid evacuating and recharging the system) I've got the truck on the road now and have ironed out all the kinks except the AC. For some reason, I can't get my AC to work at all. I checked the connection at the compressor and I'm not getting any power there with the AC running. The fan is working and all lights are working in dash but it's not blowing out cold. I checked every fuse I could find relating to HVAC and they all look good. I also traced the wiring back to the main harness and found no obvious signs of wear. I'm out of ideas, any suggestions would help.
