  1. I own a 2014 Chevy Silverado Double Cab 4x4 Z71 and wanted to share my experience as I approach 30K. When I first bought this truck it was great. I like the features, the ride, very smooth driving characteristics and overall design. Then the recalls started and so far I have had four performed that I know of. I also started noticing some issues that made me feel as if the 10K off MSRP I received was not enough of a discount. Below is recap and assessment of some issues I have seen in the last year and a half of ownership. 1. Paint- too thin and the appearance is blotchy, I am currently having some issues with adhesion as I watch the paint peel off the lower driver and passenger door, this will be covered under the warranty according to the body shop. 2. Recalls- mostly minor but I am sure as time goes on these recalls will increase in severity and inconvenience. GM should extend the bumper to bumper warranty, by a certain amount of time/milage, per recall. 3. Vibrations- there are several issues in this area. Tires are number one in my experience, then the v4 AFM mode and lastly the drivetrain are all sources for these vibrations. But if you look at the numbers on this site and do the math this seems to be an issue that only effects .5%-1% of trucks out there. Even with these statistics in some cases the vibrations have been eleminated. 4. Interior- nice to look at and touch but quality is a C+. Constant snap, crackle, pop, sounds heard mostly caused by thermo expansion and contraction. Then there are the rattles that are caused from cheap clips and loose components. One solution is to take everything apart and use dampening materials (carpet padding/expanding foam/electrical tape) to fill in void spaces and eleminate rattles. 5. Electrical- there are inconsistencies in the way the electronics perform. The radio sometimes emits a static/buzz sound through the speakers when I open the driver door. The bluetooth is temperamental, and the security locking feature sometimes has a delay. 6. Powertrain- GM has some work to do here. From the slip yolk clunk to the G80 rearend backlash knock, this area of the truck needs to be refined and shored up. There was also a leafspring knock that I had to deal with for awhile that I resolved by properly torquing the u-bolts. Even with all this I give this truck a "B-" grade. The 5.3 ecotec MGP along with HP/Torque numbers, the 100k powertrain warranty/36k three year bumper to bumper, and overall performance including towing/hauling make up for some of these issues. I would recommend this vehicle to others but if you are looking take your time and test drive this for a weekend and look for these issues. There are some that are better than others and this is the number one thing when looking at MSRP/resale value.
  2. I'm into hypermiling. Most times, my gas mileage is better than EPA's. Rarely, it's not. My 2004 Audi A4's EPA had 30 mpg highway and my average was 36 after over 1,000 miles despite 20% being city. Then it was a new 2008 Benz C300 that supposedly got 26 mpg according to EPA but I could barely get 24 out of it. Tires were properly inflated, but other owners said that it was common. A lousy 177-hp V6! The Audi had 170-hp. I learned not to trust the EPA numbers. I suspect they use soccer moms who keep both feet on both pedals simultaneously. Then I had the new 2012 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 365-hp V8 that got me 22 mpg on the highway, not too bad since EPA's estimate was 19 mpg highway. When I got a new 2016 with the same V-8, with the power slightly increased at 385-hp, my gas mileage average was initially 20, but dropped to 17 after I added a shell on it. I thought a shell would help but a lot of forums didn't agree. I didn't use the computer, I measured the gas since Ford's tend to be around 5% to 8% optimistic while Chevrolet's is usually spot-on (that was what I read and have been told). The 2019 Silverado supposedly has the lowest wind resistance of all the pick-up trucks. EPA numbers show 22 mpg on the highway. My last trip was 28 mpg, not bad for a 355-hp V8. I don't think the engine revs at over 1,500 whilst going 60 mph. I am almost sure I can do better than 28 mpg because about 10 to 20% of that was in stop and go traffic. I am not adding a shell for sure, don't want to mess it up. I thought the Z71 package would make the gas mileage worse with the slightly more aggressive tires since wind resistance is a big factor. Getting 28 surprised me, I'm very happy with the fuel economy. I am old school, am still leery towards small quad-turbo charged engines. I read about owners disabling the troublesome active fuel management which resulted in almost no difference in gas mileage, but since Chevrolet did a lot of quality control on the 2019 dynamic fuel management, I don't expect that to be a problem. Has anybody achieved better gas mileage? No going downhill, just on a flat surface going 60. Just about everybody who doesn't own one or doesn't watch the gas mileage would say a tonneau cover helps, but Mythbusters disagreed, along with several who own trucks with tonneau covers.
  3. I purchased and installed the Cold Air Intake for my 2019 GMC AT4 w/6.2L. Had to have dealership "Reflash" computer. They weren't supposed to charge, but they did. Haven't gotten anyone to call me back to explain. (Milford, CT Chevrolet/GMC). I drive hard and fast. I'm only getting 12-14mpg! 15.5 best hwy during 3k mile trek from WA state to CT. I know have 4,700mi. Put air intake after I got to CT. I have stock 20" w/All Terrain Goodyears. I'm looking to put a cab high bed topper on this Dark Sky Metallic truck. Any ideas? I'd like to level it like I did my 2018 LTZ, but with it already has a 2" lift, and I'm not sure who can do it or supply me with the parts? Lastly, Why The Heck does Chevy/GMC Trucks not have a locking gas cap?!?! My 2015 C7 Vette does! With Proximity sensor push to open!!! $70k and no locking gas cap. I don't care about gas thieves. I care about gas tank vandals!!!!
  4. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 12-10-2018 The EPA posted the new fuel economy numbers for a variety of Silverado combinations this week. The new 2.7-liter engine is one highlight. What struck us after reviewing the info is that the numbers are not that impressive. Chevrolet made a lot of noise about the new truck's aerodynamics and engine technology, leading us to get the impression that some interesting numbers would follow. Now that we see the numbers we are not so sure. First off, there are 38 different Silverado 1500 combinations listed by www.FuelEconomy.gov. Four pages of different fuel economy numbers for the model years 2018 and 2019. You can find them all yourself on the site to view which interest you, but we are pulling out a few for discussion purposes. First Up 5.3L V8 4x 4 2018 vs. 2019 To our eyes, the 2019s (denoted by "K") look like they get lower fuel economy. Are we mistaken? Next Up 4.3L V6 4 x 4 2018 vs. 2019 The 4.3-liter V6 was more efficient last year is our take. What's yours? Next Up 2019 2.7L 4-cylinder turbo in 2WD vs. 4.3 V6 in 2WD for 2018 vs. Ram V6 2019 The reason there are two Silverados is one is the work truck, the other not the work truck. They get different MPG ratings. The Ram is the new mild hybrid eTorque V6. Hmm. Our friends at Automotive News asked Chevy's Monte Duran why the new trucks have lower fuel economy numbers than the old and he replied, "We increased towing capacity, payload, and it's a much larger bed and a much larger cab."
  5. Hi everyone, first time posting. I've noticed since I purchased my 2015 5.3l chevy suburban that the average miles per gallon is low. I dont rev my engine, I always keep the screen up to monitor my fuel economy as i drive. I seem to always avg 15-16mpg road and 17-18hwy.... Does this seem normal??? I put in regular unleaded from krogers and costco. I have 43k miles on my vehicle Live in an area without high terrain. Regular suburbia. Something just does not seem right. Any input, help, modifications, changes required to improve? - yours truly A concerned chevy owner! Thank you!!!!
  6. Yesterday I had to run to Phoenix and back for work supplies. My company truck is a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 long-wheel-base 2wd with 5.3L V8 (former Uhaul truck). I used cruise control, I meticulously went the speed limit, and I used the air conditioning and stereo during the trip. More than half of the trip I was hauling over 1500 lbs in the bed. By the time I returned the dash was telling me about 25 mpg for the round trip. Manual calculations at the pump said 23.49 mpg. In my opinion that's very good. Here's the video:
  7. Curious what the average and best gas mileage you've gotten in your 2015-2018 silverado or sierrra 1500 crew cab is? Mine so far is pictured. It is a 2018 Sierra SLT Z71 4WD Crew with the the 5.2 liter V8 8-speed.
  8. Cars.com's review this week of the Yukon Denali put the real-world fuel economy in its headline and made it the focus of its review. Should testers of full size trucks and SUVs be surprised by this comparatively excellent mileage, or is this a well-known advantage in the GM truck community?
  9. Late last night, a GM-Trucks.com member noticed that the 2015 Silverado fuel economy numbers had been updated at fueleconomy.gov. Only available with the 420-horsepower 6.2L V8 engine, GM's new 8-speed will net Silverado and Sierra owners 1-additional MPG in both city and highway driving. We will report on the "official" numbers if and when the company releases them publicly. Compared side by side to the 2014 6-speed View attachment: 2015MPG.jpg(Thanks to gone_fishing for this graphic)
  10. 3.6L V6 Chevrolet Colorado & GMC Canyon Fuel Economy 2WD: 18mpg city / 21mpg combined / 26mpg highway 4WD: 17mpg city / 20mpg combined / 24mpg highway “The all-new 2015 GMC Canyon adds segment-leading fuel economy to its winning resume,” said Kenn Bakowski, Canyon marketing manager. “Innovations such as available active grille shutters combine with an aerodynamic design in a smaller, more maneuverable package to set a new standard for fuel economy in midsize trucks.”
