  1. Hi Guys, I just bought a new 2017 Silverado and noticed the digital fuel gauge not showing full...I thought I'd wait until I hit a certain mileage to see if the engine needed to calibrate itself, but this is not the case. GM customer service said "it's normal and just a display..." But my wife has a 2013 Equinox and her digital image depletes as the fuel depletes (works as it should), so GM customer service has to be wrong here. Any guidance would help greatly! ? Attached is a photo I took immediately after fill up. Cheers Gents
  2. First off, hello and thank you for taking the time to read this. I will start with specs and how the truck is put together to make this easier to understand. My truck is a 97 Chevy C1500. It originally came with a 4.3 Fuel Injected Engine. However the guy that owned it before me swapped in a 87 block style crate 350/5.7. He switched it over to carbeurated. Put a mechanical pump on it. Now when he ran the lines, he left the old fuel pump unit inside the tank. He just disconnected the power to the electric fuel pump, and the mechanical fuel pump on the block pulls its fuel THROUGH the inactive electric pump. (according to what he told me, still need to pull the tank and verify this, but wanted to get information first) So there's the basics. The issue im having is that my fuel gauge does not work. It is currently pegged about an inch or two past full. Now, Ive been told varying things. One person tells me that the fuel sender works independent of the electric pump, and that all i need to do is replace the sender and hook up only the level wires and leave the power to the in tank pump disconnected. Another tells me that the electric pump HAS to be powered for the level sender to work, and there's now way to make it work with myy setup. That's not even including the fuel level buffer module or whatever that i just heard about today -_- My question is this. How does the sender work in detail, and what is my best option for diagnosing and fixing my fuel gauge? Is there a way to make the fuel gauge in the dash work with the current setup, or do i need to get a separate specialized gauge and install it? Any and all help is appreciated. If y'all have any questions please do ask and i will do my best to answer them in an effort to get this issue figured out. (Picture attached. Harness wires: Purple wire is level sender wire. Gray wire is the power to the pump. Black wire on its own is i think the ground for the pump, black wire going into plug is ground for sender, according to the wiring diagram i reviewed.)
  3. 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 Z71 5.3 Gasoline Looking for some help, I’ve talked to a few different shops about the problem I’m having. Basically my fuel gauge isn’t working it always reads empty, and before it was completely shot, it would read normally and shut off, only to come back on a few minutes later. One day it shut off, and never came back on, so I assumed it was the fuel sending unit, so I replaced the fuel pump with a Delphi, I had the same issue so I returned it for an ACDelco because I’ve had experiences with the Delphi pumps being defective, but after I replaced the Delphi with the ACDelco I still had the same problem, I just replaced the Instrument cluster last year so I’m not thinking that’s the problem, the electrical is all plugged in and there is no corrosion whatsoever. Like I’ve said I’ve taken it to shops and everyone tells me the same thing, that they’re mind boggled and can’t figure it out.. I’m stumped too. Ive looked at everything I’ve thought to look at, maybe someone can approach this at a different angle and give me some ideas of what I can do to find the issue. thanks for taking the time to read and reply. if you need to know anything else about the truck I will answer.
  4. After I filled my one of my gas tanks. The fuel now reads way past full and doesn't move to just under half a tank until it's bone dry. Do I need to replace the sending unit and if so do i need to remove the truck box to do so? Or Is there any tricks to resolve issue? I seen a you tube video where a guy used a magnet to move the fuel gauge needle to correct location?
  5. My fuel gauge is in my blazer is driving me crazy. when iam driving, the gauge goes from full to empty and the low fuel light comes on and then back to fuel. this is driving me cray.. do I need to replace the whole fuel pump. since I have to drop down the tank??? I know this is the hardest too do and money wise will be a facter.. I seen on the u tube that if you cut a hple in the back seat , this is the easiest way too do it and better then taking the tank down, I am open for all discussions, thank
  6. I have a 2001 Suburban 2500 LT (200,000 miles) I have owned since new, and I am at my wits end with a fuel gauge issue. 6.0L, auto trans, single fuel tank. The fuel gauge reads accurately, but on occasion, the fuel gauge goes to below empty and the low fuel light comes on. I have replaced the fuel pump/fuel sending unit 3 times in the last 2 years and this problem has never been resolved. Last fuel pump was an after market pump since GM has had problems with their fuel sending units going bad prematurely. I thought there may have been a bad connection since all the manufacturers give you crimp connectors. The last time, I soldered the connections when I changed out the electrical plug to eliminate the possibility of those connections being bad. I also used silicon dielectric compound on the plug in that goes to the top of the pump. I have not removed the gauge cluster nor have I changed the PCM...yet. Any ideas? After changing the last fuel pump, the car only went 1 hour before acting up again. Incidentally, this has been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned...except for this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance.
  7. Just bought a 2018 Silverado 6.2 a month ago. I noticed when I left the dealership they said they filled it, but it showed a little over 3/4 tank. I thought Oh well, they tried! But after driving awhile it seemed to go up to "F" Then I've noticed slight movement of the needle during the last fill-up. This time I filled it at 1/4 tank with 119 miles remaining, and it didn't change. Still stuck at 1/4 tank and 119 miles. I went to another gas station just to make sure I was actually full and I was. I guess I'll bring it in next week. Anyone else having this problem? Thanks.
  8. When i fill up the gas tank to full (gas nozzle clicks to off), the fuel gauge on the display (looks like a gas pump) only registers about 3/4 full. Is this normal? I feel like the gauge used to fluctuate with the actual fuel level in the tank. Thoughts?
