  1. Does anyone run E15 88 octane gas on a regular basis? I know it is at stations in MN, not sure how widespread it is, but it's a 15% ethanol blend (vs 10% normal) and is a little bit cheaper. It says its OK for all vehicles and trucks 2001 or newer. Just wondering if anyone runs it on a regular basis or has evaluated the mileage they get with it vs other gas options. http://mnfuels.com/e15.cfm
  2. Hello all, ive recently bought a new to me single owner 2014 gmc sierra 4.3 4x4 double cab with 43,000 miles on it. It has flex fuel standard and was wondering wether or not i should run e85. It is available local and pretty cheap, but ive heard that if the truck has ran gas most of its life the e85 would cleanse the deposits and possibly clog the fuel lines or fuel pump. Should it be safe to switch over to e85 ? Or could i just start running 89 since ive also read that its more beneficial running 89 or 93 over 87 due to detonation
  3. Anyone happen to know how many gallons of gas you have when the gas light comes on? I drive a 99 silverado 1500 5.3L v8.
  4. I have 2014 Silverado and went to the gas station one morning and out of nowhere started smelling gas inside of the truck. Long story short, went to look underneath truck and had a 3x3 ft size puddle of fuel underneath truck on ground. Looked to see where it was coming from and looks like it’s coming from back side of motor. Can anyone help or recommend any action to take from this?
  5. How many miles to get out of a 14 Sierra slt 4x4 5.3L? Currently 118k , try to take best care as much as possible
  6. I started my Silverado to check trailer lights and signals. Got distracted. Went in and laid down. I noticed an exhaust smell, but i was parked next to a semi, & dismissed it as from him. I woke to my rv shaking & jumped up and ran out, realizing 6 hours later it was still running!! Next morning I walked for 3 gallons of gas. It will not start. Tried the prime thing by turning the key on & off 3 times. Waited an hour tried again, and again. Nothing. I am moving an Rv 100 miles and the back end is riding low. Do i just need more gas? This truck is NEVER below.a quarter tank. I guess Ill staft walking now, in case my fuel intake from the tank is missing that 3 gallons. But if not that? Then whats my next move? This was an overnight spot and Ive recieved a warning to move already! We wont goninto i lost my phone, wore my shirt insideout AND BACKWARDS all the way there & back for gas! & lost a $20! All b4 8am today!
  7. Hey All, Just curious what type gas so you all use for these trucks? I'm running 89 but I didn't know if these trucks perform better with one type over the other, any added performance or mpg boost with one? I want to see if I'm wasting the little extra I pay for 89 if 87 is the same thing.
  8. I’m really debating on punching out my cat and running a straight pipe through it. My truck puffs out a cloud of white smoke when I dump it and I can tell a loss of power. Has anyone straight piped a 6.0? What are the pros and cons of doing it on a 2006 I’ve always done it to my older pickups but I’m not sure how it will affect this one
  9. Question fellas And ladies, I typically don't post on forums, but I'm at a poss currently. My truck is 2010 Silverado 4.8 and after driving it for 30 or so minutes the traction control/ stabitrax light comes on, the tachometer cuts off and the truck feels like it's jerking going forward, if I'm stopping or stopped the truck stalls and won't turn back on for Maybe an hour. I've replaced the fuel pump, crankshaft position sensor, engine temperature sensor, replaced the plugs and wires maybe a year ago, and I don't drive it much because I live close to work. Yesterday I had been driving it a little farther because I thought it was fixed, but as I was getting on the highway, the truck popped/ jerked, and the stabitrax/traction control off displayed and a couple of seconds later, the tachometer went to zero. I was able to get her home, but the truck kept jerking all the way home. I think the problem is unrelated, but my oil pressure has been getting lower as I drive it. Any help would be great, thanks.
  10. Hi there, So I ride a 18 Sierra 1500 with the 5.3L and keep getting gas in my oil, my high pressure fuel pump let go in March of 2019 (40000kms ish) and was the first time I got gas in the oil, they replaced it and it was good until late December of 2019, I drove 800 kms to home, parked at the restaurant and went to go home and got a bunch of codes, saying that bank was to lean, bank 1 to rich, bank 2 to lean, bank 2 to rich and a open circuit fault code. The truck was in limp mode but got it to the dealership, they found a short to a relay for the hp fuel pump and my crank case filled with gas (same as the last time but now the truck at 69000kms) they tested the O2’s, fuel injectors, injector cycles and such, they all passed the test so they figured the hp fuel pump went, so they replaced it. I then drove not even 3000kms and my truck was doing 33L/100kms downhill at 104km/h, no codes or engine lights. Checked the oil and it was over filled and smelled of gas, brought into the dealership and they said the Intake tube after the MAF was loose causing the engine to over fuel, now not even 2000kms (3 weeks) into the dealership “fixing” the issue, my oil is over filled and smells strong like gasoline. Any ideas on what the issue could be? I don’t want to keep paying for an oil change every 2-3000kms and 100$ deductible for my extended warranty. I know it’s not healthy for the engine and GM Canada won’t do anything about it.. Any ideas as to what the issue might be would be awesome, thanks
  11. Hello, I have a 1999 Chevy Express conversion van. It has very low miles on it. It has the Winnebago conversion package from Chattanooga, TN. It was supposed to have the 34 gallon tank per the conversion documents but only has the 31 gallon tank. I would like to add a secondary tank where the spare tire is located under the body and behind the rear axle. Has anyone found a company that makes such a tank? If so, can you provide me with the link? Thanks!
  12. So I have a 2018 Silverado 5.3 Z71 LT and I've tried looking up threads for this topic before but for some reason I haven't had any luck. Ive had this truck for a year now and I had a level lift installed and my MPG stayed around 18-22 MPG and I could get 325-400 miles out of a full tank of fuel. I recently installed a 3.5 Rough Country suspension lift and I installed 20" wheels with 33" tires. I knew going into this modification that I would see a slight decrease in MPG but immediately after the install I dropped my MPG to 7.5-9 MPG and I cannot get it to increase AT ALL. I used to work at a GM dealership and spoke to a couple of old co-workers about this issue and for some reason we cannot pinpoint the issue. I know that increasing the ride height and the different wheel/tire package would create a difference but I didn't know that it would be this bad. I'm considering a performance chip and a CAI to try and increase my MPG, and its not a bad batch of gasoline and I've changed my driving habits and kept my foot off the throttle a little bit...if anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!!
  13. Hello everybody from sunny Saskat-chewan. I have a 2000 GMC C6500 topkick (former U-hauler) and I would like to lock my fuel tank (60 gal - gasoline | 7.4l V8) away from prying hoses. I'm going to drill and tap the cap, and put in an allen-key set screw but I'd prefer a regular keyed arrangement. Any comments on this topic, preferably with a locking cap solution? The only locking caps I see around have a male thread - my truck requires a cap with female threads. Thanks in advance, Keep On Truckin'!
  14. Afternoon ladies and gents. I have spent hours upon hours trying to do my homework here on the GM 6.0 gasser engines. I have been around diesels the past 6 years, love my current tow rig. (2013 Ram 2500 Tradesman w/ 6/7 cummins) Truck is stock no deletes. What brought me here is we have our first baby on the way, the thought of saving some money by trading down to a gasser seems like a good idea. But i am not sure with how often i tow that i will be happy. I live in Illinois and tow a 28 ft enclosed racecar hauler throughout the state (mostly flat). I tow every weekend from April to October generally, the trailer weighs close to 8K loaded. Obviously the cummins tows this with zero issues, and i'm assuming the GM 6.0 would tow this fine as well. I found a 2009 Chevy 2500 that's loaded with 110,000 miles on it. It appears to be in great shape, from what i found out it has the LY6 engine. If i were to make the switch i'd free up over 100 bucks a month, but is that really enough to justify the switch? I'm not in a bind for money at the moment, but obviously saving some money never hurts. I guess i'm basically looking at some opinion's from guys that have maybe made the switch from a diesel to a gasser, and see what there thoughts were? Or do i tow enough that i should just stick it out with the diesel? Looking forward to your thoughts! *Also, i would estimate that based on my location and where i'm traveling i drive roughly 3500-4000 miles a year with the trailer hooked up.
  15. 2015 Silverado, 5.3 Gas with just under 34,400 miles. I've just started noticing that ??burnt oil?? smell after starting the truck up. Usually after sitting all day at work, or overnight in the garage. Only way I can describe the smell is by the 2003 Silverado I drove at work for years that ended up having a new engine put in it. I don't see any puff of bluish/white cloud on startup. Only noticed it like in the last week. Usually I'm either remote starting it when it's cold out or getting in and starting it up. So I never smell it. It's only 16 miles round trip to and from work with many more stop and go's than miles. It only had just under 11k when I bought it in Aug 2017. So what, 23k in 18-19 months. It runs smooth, idles smooth. Should I worry about it? The way things have been going lately, it would be just my luck to have a screwed up engine.
  16. I smell raw gas when approaching my tailgate. i don’t smell it any where else. what would cause this? on a 2014 GMC Sierra Denali 5.3L
  17. I have over 2,200 miles on my truck and really like it. A few minor issues: My gas gauge hits E and low fuel light comes on after consuming 21 gallons. So, I have over 5 gallons and approx. 100 miles left before running out. This is about 2 gallons too early IMO. Is anyone else experiencing this? Also, I have a few times where the indicator lights don't come on my heated seat buttons. The seats still heat up, just no lights. After adjusting the volume from the steering wheel, the volume graphic will sometimes stay on the display in the dash. After remote starting, I will enter the cab and after hitting the start button, a warning will appear on the display: "Service Steering Column Lock". I'll hit the check mark to dismiss and it goes away. I hope they come up with fixes for these items. Thanks.
  18. I stumbled upon a local BP Gas station here in the KC area that sells a 100% No Ethanol Fuel (93 octane). It is $.20 per gallon more than the 93 octane with 10% Ethanol. I thought I would try a couple of tanks out to see if MPGs would further increase. Anyone out there have a similar option in their area that can chime in on results good or bad?
  19. Hey guys, been searching but haven't found a simple way to look this up. I have a 2008 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 Gas, extended cab, 8 foot bed, I am reasonably sure its a 3.73 axle ratio and it has the towing package. The truck has almost 180k on it and the rear diff cover is leaking (seeping through). What I want to get is: http://www.taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1803 Has one on my old truck, its a nice piece. However I see that they only make it for a 9.5" ring gear. I see that my truck could be 9.5, 10.5, or 11.5. How do I go about identifying it?
  20. Hey guys, I was curious to hear what you all have done on your truck for better gas mileage and what you think the best grade of gas is to use for gas mileage. I have a 2017 Silverado custom and get about 19 average.
