  1. Attention! We have deep discounts available on in-stock Kooks headers! Message us for details.
  2. A few months ago I installed a set of Texas Speed and Performance long tube headers and the catted y pipe they offer. Some then ive noticed the front of the transmission pan leaks a little bit. The bolt heads have trans fluid on them all the time and every now and then it drips onto the exhaust and I can smell it. I believe this is due to the heat from the catalytic converter that is positioned directly below the trans pan. I haven’t noticed any higher trans temperature and the fluid level of the trans hasn’t gotten low so it not a bad leak, just an annoying smell mostly. I’m trying to decide what to do and I thought I’d get y’alls opinion. I was thinking about making a heat shield to go between the cat and the trans pan. or maybe just tightening the bolts on the trans pan, if I remember correctly the torque spec on those is pretty low and the added heat from the cat might be enough to make it leak. Thanks for any input.
  3. I bought this truck in August of 2014 from a dealer in Milwaukee. It had 8k miles and the previous owner had custom ordered it used it for 6 months then turned around and traded it in for same thing but 2500 with a Duramax. This is its journey.... The truck also did really impressive burnouts for being completely stock, this one was into 3rd gear A few months after I bought it I started with upgrades. First was a rolling tonneau cover. Didn’t love it but it worked. I wanted more power from it and chose a set of Doug Thorley tri-y headers and catless y pipe. Had a little issue with y pipe not being the right size for 6.2s catback, welded factory flange onto the y pipe and it works great! Plus they look sweet! At the same time as this I also bought a Diablo inTune, it paired alright with the headers but didn’t have the parameters in it to tune out cats so I had to have someone do that for me. The truck did have some pretty amazing fuel economy though. This tank was hand calculated 24.5!! I drove the truck like this for a couple years but did a few minor things, one was an MIT tube and the other a custom tune from DiabLew. Trans tuning was biggest improvement by Lew.

  9. Decided to make a new thread about headers. So I am looking for ways to add some umph to my truck. I have seen that long tube headers can add low end torque and HP. Anyone run with these types of headers? What kind of power gains have you seen? Hooked to stock exhaust or full custom?
  10. Which Headers do you recommend for a truck equipped with the 6.2 liter L86 engine? 1.Which ones do you have? 2. Why do you endorse them? -Cost -Quality -Ease of installation -Size (1 3/4 Vs. 1 7/8) -Performance -Sound (tone quality, volume, drone) -Longevity -Value (cost, complications and effort Vs. added performance and enjoyment -Downsides 3. Associated exhaust parts 4. Any other special considerations i have a 2015 High Country 4WD 1500 CCSB with the 6.2. I have decided to possibly “tune it up”. If it is financially feasible and will add to the daily driving enjoyment of this truck. It is not a “pig” by any means, but it lags a bit, especially with the larger/heavier tires and their effect on gearing. I think it would be greatly improved by being “woken up” through a few steps. I am considering: Banks CAI Ported/Polished stock throttle body BlackBear Tuning 194* GM Thermostat and slightly more aggressive fan profile in tuning. LongTube Headers with Cats Dual Exhaust Mufflers and Resonators - I have had good luck with and like AERO Turbine mufflers out of Utah. I was considering two of his AT3030 mufflers and two of the AR30 resonators, somewhere over the axles, with L/R tips behind the rear wheels. In looking at my plans, I think that the exhaust without mods would be a bottleneck. I currently have removed the factory muffler and flapper and put back an Aero turbine 3030XL or maybe 3535XL muffler. (I don’t remember) What at do you think of my plan? What is good or bad? Help me decide what to do. Headers and a full exhaust change can become quite expensive, if the gains aren’t that significant, maybe this part of “the plan” can be changed. If you feel that headers are not needed, please share. Please try to be clear, concise and factual in regards to your Header choices. Let’s not get too derailed discussing just mufflers. Hopefully this thread can help many others with this particular decision. I searched the exhaust thread, but it is daunting to find this particular information. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience. The members here make this forum the best of its kind for our trucks. -Darksky
  11. Might have a ridiculous question but I cant see the issue in theory so I am consulting the experts. I have a 2015 2500 HD 6.0 4x4. I recently had long tubes installed. First finding long tubes for this application is insane. I could not specifically find anything that guaranteed fitment for this year. I ended up with speed engineering stainless that was made for the 6.0 up to 2013 according to them it should carry over in later years which is true given the L96 has changed little to none. I had zero fitment issue with the passenger side but the left was awful...... hit the motor mount, frame, and drive shaft. I had the shop modify the header to fit......being honest he did exactly that and I'm impressed but I believe the header is leaking like nobody's buisness due to the 8 different cuts and bends he made. and makes an awful sound I do not feel like going through hell and back or spend the money on another long tube header for that side to run into the same issue...... so what if I ran a shorty 1 7/8 stainless on the driver side and a 1 7/8 long tube on the passenger side? It's off the wall but why not? If the true duals x and I have a custom tune in theory it should not be an issue right?

  13. I purchased these headers about a year ago and before I could get them installed started having issues with my 2016 Sierra and didnt want to give GM any reason to deny my powertrain claim. I have since had those issues resolved but decided to go a different route with my truck and thus these are for sale. Asking $750 obo plus the ride. Motivated seller as I would like to finish my G8. Thanks. These will fit both the 5.3 and 6.2 of the below listed vehicles. Note if you have the 6.2 you will have to expand the ball at the end of the connection pipe to fit. Thanks again. 2014-17 Silverado/Sierra2015-17 Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade
  14. I had a great deal on buying my 2015 Silverado LT. It’s not what I wanted (V8, leather, 4WD, etc,) but I’m going to make it work! It’s a beautiful color and I added some black 20” rims and also painted the bowtie black. I have a few more mods I want to do with the lights and adding a backup camera, BUT what I want most is HP!!! I called the local speed shop and they told me there’s really nothing out there for the 4.3L and I wouldn’t be able to notice the small increase with a Cold Air Intke, Exhausts or programming..... Is this true? I mean a few extra (10-15) for each of those mods seems like it would add up? Can anyone give me some advice to get more HP without dropping the obvious V8 I’d love to have to begin with..... Thanks so much in advance! TomBrady80

  16. I'm going to be lifting (w/ 35s) my 14 sierra 5.3 ccrb. I would like some input/ advise/opinions/experience on cai, headers, exhaust and a tune, to make up for power loss from the lift. I have a 3.42 gears. Thank you.

  18. I fell down the rabbit hole it all started with an AirRiad full intake and then I got to thinking. I need a cat-back exhaust, headers and a tune. Here is where I am at. -Borla touring dual exit - http://www.gmperformancemotor.com/parts/19303342.html -AirRaid full kit - https://www.airaid.com/search/product.aspx?prod=AIR-203-111 -American Racing 1 7/8 headers and high flow cats - https://americanracingheaders.com/collections/gm-truck/products/gm-truck-6-2l-2014-up-long-system?variant=29943904900 -Efilive flashscan V2 from Blackbear with email tune - http://store.blackbearperformance.com/EFILive-V2-Scan-and-Tune-GM_p_17.html I ordered everything but the headers I have a local shop that I feel comfortable having install headers https://www.eastcoastsupercharging.com/ and if they are installing them I will just let them order them for courtesy. They work on mostly corvettes and camaros also trucks. My only concern is the cost and I am curious as to what you guys think about two things and some help with my decision. -should I have them purchase and install the headers and "street tune" for $3149? keep in mind they are also installing the cat-back Borla exhaust which I am supplying. So $3149-$1775=$1399. minus the cost of the headers it is $1399 for the header and cat-back install and street tune. -OR find another installer that I trust to do the headers and cat back install and just use Blackbear for the tune that is included with my flashscan V2. I like the idea of having two different tunes so I can compare and see which one I like better and get to learn efilive and hopefully do some of my own tuning in the future. Please no comments why don't you install everything yourself. I did the intake and would have no problem installing that cat back but headers are out of my league. Thanks just wanted to bounce this off of you guys and see what you all thought.
  19. Hey guys, Need some help. I've got a 2016 Sierra Denali with a cold air intake,Whipple supercharger, Gibson short tube headers alongside with an aftermarket cat-back exhaust. I know I'm probably going to get roasted for the shorty headers but unfortunately long tubes are illegal where I'm from and to be very honest, I have heard long tubes with the after market cat-backs on the GM 6.2L....WAYYY TOOOO LOUD!! Coming to my issue, where I need your expertise is that there seems to be this noise from the driver's side footwell after I installed the short headers. Can't even describe whether the noise can be calleded a clicking/ticking/chattering or what, I have absolutely no idea. All I know is that it comes with acceleration. If it was a constant I wouldn't mind but it's super annoying because it's got a mind of its own. Sometimes it's not even there, then it decides to come back and even when it does, it doesn't always present itself at the same volume. Sometimes its at a soft volume, then sometimes medium and sometimes quite loud, however all the times it is with the acceleration. Most of the time it's there, it's there at a medium volume. At first I had my dealership install JBA short headers. We got this sound and my dealership claimed it was a leak. They resurfaced/machined the headers down, TWICE, changed the gasket even once, yet the sound remained. Then we changed over to Gibson short tube headers and unfortunately the same issue here too.... At the end they just gave me my truck back and said this is how short headers are and nothing can be done about it. Apparently they claim they spoke to JBA and Gibson and it seems they were told by them that it is due to the difference in size of the exhaust outlet in the engine and the inlet on the headers. I somehow don't believe my dealership because they always try to pull a fast one when they can't solve a problem. I've attached an audio file, please tell me what you think the problem could be. The dealership had my car for 43 days and after all of the fiasco above, they said whatever it is, it certainly is not a leak... so...PLEASE HELP!!!!! 21. Hi there I'm fresh on the 2014 sierra scene and looking to get first upgrade. If anyone has catback, tips, headers anything let me know for a 6.2! Thanks!
  22. Hello and thanks for your help ahead of time. Anyone know if they make long tube headers for my 3500HD 4wd? When I search google I see a few sets come up but they do not specify 2wd or 4wd long tubes and Y-pipe. I am replacing my engine and having my trans rebuilt so while its out I thought I would upgrade the exhaust with long tubes and a new CAT Free Y-pipe that will bolt onto my factory cat back exhaust system. Thanks again Will
  23. Hey I have a 2013 GMC Sierra 5.3 that I love. It has a K&N Blackhawk CAI with a diablosport tuner on it. Exhaust wise, I started out with single in dual out flow master 40 series that I had fun with. The time came where I wanted louder so I welded in a Electric Cutout with a turndown. This mod has been a blast as it is really loud. The time as come to go louder The sad thing is that I live in an emissions county so I cannot just go straight up catless. Does anyone have any super loud, obnoxious, and crazy setups they can share with me?? Anything helps guys, thanks!
  24. Hey Guys, Just wanted to throw this out here as I had a hell of a time trying to find any comments on a setup like mine. So I have a 10' Silverado 5.3L. I installed a Volant CAI w/PowerCore Filter, Dynatech Long Tube Headers, Dynatech Y-Pipe w/Cat Delete and Gibson Extreme Duals. I must say I am super excited. This truck now sounds and performs like a truck should. I had it tuned by Diablew Tunes. Lew is awesome very good to work with and even gave me some pointers for a newb like me. I notice a huge difference in performance of my truck. I am looking to get it dyno'd in a couple weeks and will share results. If there are any questions please let me know I am here to help with whatever I can on this setup or something similar.
  25. i recently installed OBX LTs on my 6.2 and can't resolve a header leak on the Drivers side header.... I first used the gaskets that came with the headers and switched them out for new fel pro and no difference..... did you guys with LTs use new gaskets or did you use the stock gaskets? btw.. everything else in the exhaust has been checked and no leaks
