  1. I was excited last April 2023 when my dealer received the 2024 Denali Ultimate 2500 into inventory. My wife and I took it for a test drive and bought the truck that day. Now it's been nearly one year since we bought it and it's done nothing but disappoint. The truck has been at the dealer for repairs for nearly 3 months with every defect related to electrical or software problems and many of these defects haven't been repaired. I'll start off with some of the benign defects, though for what these trucks cost today these defects shouldn't exist: 1. Infotainment system glitches, it will randomly switch between satellite radio and Android audio, the satellite radio loses the signal repeatedly in the suburbs around Chicago (no mountains here). 2. The tailgate Kicker Audio will not disconnect from my phone when the tailgate is closed and the Kicker radio is supposed to be off. The Kicker radio will occasionally play audio when the tailgate is closed. The dealer says to just unpair the Kicker radio from my phone because they can't explain why this is occurring. 3. The wireless charger in the center console is finicky and slow to charge. 4. The now infamous multipro tailgate drop that has caused body damage to the truck's tailgate on 2 occasions and GM still doesn't have a fix to prevent this from happening. The tailgate dropped on us several times as the truck was being driven down the highway and no warning or indication of an open tailgate was ever displayed on the dash. 5. This truck will occasionally suffer the "dead pedal" syndrome; lack of throttle response. Nothing more worrisome than towing a 10,000lbs trailer and having to pull out of a blind driveway on a mountain road and the truck literally will not accelerate. The truck's ECM has yet to record these events. GM's protocol for recording these types of incidences must be very lax. 6. The truck constantly loses communication with the trailer's brakes, resulting in nothing less than loss of trailer brakes. Oh joy, as you're traveling down Vail Pass (7% grade) and your trailer brakes stop working. The dealer blamed a faulty module for this and states they replaced it. Haven't pulled the trailer since this repair so I can't confirm that the defect still exists or not. 7. The traction control on this truck malfunctions occasionally. The traction control will stop working even though it was not manually turned off. As with the dead pedal, the truck's ECM has not recorded these incidences. 8. The truck will consistently die if it is parked for a period of 9 days or less, dependent on the outside temperature. The dealer states that there is nothing wrong and that this truck has to be, at the very least, started everyday and allowed to idle for 20 minutes in order to keep the batteries charged. The dealer has also stated that GM's testing equipment that they must use in order to verify a warranty claim is predisposed to finding no faults. The math for how long a battery should stay charged enough to start this truck is simple; it's an 80 Ah battery and assuming a minimum electrical draw of 50mA to maximum electrical draw of 80mA while the truck is parked the battery should be able to start this truck anywhere from 44 to 67 days. GM corporate has stated to me that they can't validate that my truck has died on multiple occasions, which I find disingenuous, since one of the times it died it sat in the dealership's lot awaiting unrelated repairs and OnStar was notifying me to start the truck in order to recharge the batteries. Apparently GM doesn't find OnStar credible. GMC is refusing to make this right and thinks that having a new truck out of service for nearly 3 months to date is acceptable. Wondering who else may have been experiencing problems with their 2024 Denali Ultimate.
  2. I'm sure this is posted somewhere in here i just can't seem to find it. I'm wanting to run a 2nd battery in 2020 2500HD and was hoping someone would have some insight into what was the best way to go about doing this. If there is already a thread then just point me at that and I will read through that, otherwise thanks for the help.
  3. This happened to the previous owner twice. When I purchased the truck (right after the second engine blew) i replaced the engine. I inspected the catalytic converters and realized that they were hollowed out. I then put the cheapest cats money could buy on the truck. They blew out within a week and left me on the side of the road. I then paid up and got some good AP cats. Just recently I started getting my 420s & 430s again. I get a whistle that comes from the exhaust and i assume its just because there isn't a clear passageway. My pressure also builds up on high acceleration. Does anyone have an answer to why my truck burns through these things like nothing? cant be the engine because this is the 3rd engine that has blown them out.

Was wondering if anyone else is having issues with upgrading their OEM wheels?ive got a 2021 LT 2WD with 20” tires and wheels and wanted to change over to the High Country wheels. keep hearing that they won’t fit? Anyone else aware of this issue? Something to do with the brake calipers or wheel liners???
  6. New to the site, have a 2021 2500hd with 6.6 gas. Yesterday was turning around in my driveway and heard a bang, then check engine light, trac light, reduced engine power, service parking brake lights all came on. I can run through the gear shift, but it won't engage any gears. When I have it in r or d if I touch the gas it revs up and speedo keeps going up. Looked at shift linkage and it does move, so I'm guessing a serious internal trans issue?? Anyone else have an issue like this?   7. I just picked up at 2021 Silverado. I lifted the front end with a jack to get an idea of how it would look leveled. After seeing the picture, I'm contemplating keeping the stock 17" wheels and putting 33" tires on it. Has anybody done this?
  8. Zane Merva Executive Editor / Publisher - GM-Trucks.com October 10th, 2019 Chevrolet is giving the not so subtle hint that the rumored Silverado ZRX model is about to become reality. Today, the brand announced that a "Silverado Race Truck" would compete in this weekend's Laughlin Desert Classic alongside the Hall Racing Colorado ZR2. Interestingly, the Silverado will compete in the Desert's 1200 Stock Class, which limits changes to suspension, under body, and race-safety equipment. What does that mean? This truck is not only ready to race, it's close to production too. The "Silverado Race Truck" is outfitted with a number of aftermarket goodies that look like they were ripped right off a Colorado ZR2. Starting as an LT Trail Boss with the 6.2L V8, the Silverado Race Truck is outfitted with a long travel suspension, front and rear jounce shocks and Multimatic DSSV dampers. In short... the modifications that Chevy applies to the Colorado for the ZR2 model. Why didn't Chevy just come out and call this the ZRX Race Truck? We're not sure, but there's no doubt this is a low flying announcement made to pave the way towards an eventual Silverado model that emulates the ZR2's success in a larger package. Whether that's enough to take on the Ford Raptor is too early to determine. Stay tuned for updates on the "Silverado Race Truck" and future Silverado ZRX.
  9. Have you seen the Michael J Fox Edition Sierra/Silverado rolling down the road? Looks like the Toyota from Back to the Future. Anyway there is a really cool headlight switch with the option for Off-Road lights. Apparently with a long push of the button the BCM will latch the signal and provide a constant positive signal for triggering a relay. It will also illuminate the icon on the switch as well as send a signal to the cluster illuminating an amber light icon next to the fog light icon or “ORL” in amber. I successfully installed this in my wife’s ‘16 2500 Denali yesterday but from what I’ve read it’s the same for 1/2 tons, HDs, and Colorado/Canyon. The BCM already has Programing for this from the factory but I’m not sure when (how early) it was started. I have a ‘15 3500 that I’ll try soon as well as a friend’s ‘17 2500 to do soon. If the Programing hasn’t been done in my ‘15 I’ll still be able to get the switch to illuminate as well as latch a signal for positive or negative relay signaling using a latching relay. There are several variants of this switch. Some have blue background for ‘17+Up model years and red for ‘16+earlier. Additionally some have the ORL switch without Fogs, and some have no surround backlighting.   10. I’m looking for advice testing and fixing stored and permanent codes. Truck is a 2013 Serria 2500 6.0L Vortec with 283737 miles. I have P0420 P0430 and P2097 codes using my live data I see both upstream and downstream sensor are fluctuating high and low is that defiantly saying the cats need to be changed ? Also P 2097 bank 1 high limit keeps coming back trying narrow down cause I will attach photos of freeze frame when code occurd some live data photos thank in advance

  12. Hello all, My Sway bar was hitting my CV axle, as the title says. So I crawled under some trucks at the dealer to see what stock trucks are like and it turns out that the new TB/AT4's have longer end links then my 2020 TB. The new end link has a 3 inch rod vs the 1-3/4 inch OE part. The part number for the longer end link is P/N:85590925
  13. This is one for the ages to me. The truck has the correct: FUEL PRESSURE: 60psi SPARK: verified visually [AND WITH STARTING FLUID] correct injector pulse [verified by test light signal from ecm, test light neg to batt positive, test lead to INJ signal] and I went a step further unbolted the fuel rail and visually verified spray from all 8 injectors]. THE TRUCK WILL RUN --- OFF OF STARTING FLUID There is also a shrader valve on the passenger side [Fuel pressure verified and in spec 58-62psi] I used Autel scan tool to verify and slightly boost the rail presssure, STILL NO START -- IT STARTS AND DIES IMMEDIATELY, as if the injectors are being cut off. The throttle body was replaced 1 year + ago, but the truck has been driving since then, using the existing thrott body... until now. NO CODES COME UP EXCEPT THE HEATED SEAT BACK -- on a system-wide scan. I did notice that if i unplug the INJector harness connector (only did the driver's side) that NO CODES will come up either, as if the ECM doesn't care if i unplugged the harness connector to the fuel INJectors, NO MALFUNCTION REPORTS it. ANY IDEAS that experienced techs with Silverado LTZ 2013 would be great if anyone else has seen this before, THANKS. NO PASSLOCK MESSAGES However I do notice that the ENGINE (symbol) STAYS SOLID WHILE CRANKING -- I dont know what this means on a 2013 Silverado, if any thing..if anyone knows.. please HELP! I will include here more info from my notes: Tools: Autel MaxiSys DVOM multimeter various jumper wires Mini oscilloscope THREW AT IT SO FAR: Crankshaft position sensor [Advance Auto, $40] Oil Pressure Sensor (hoping it's failure was a failsafe, NOT!) Autozone $75! OUCH! that was NOT it! 8 A/C DELCO Spark Plugs, $7.99! They were sludgy, but NOPE, that ain't it either! $65 IF I Quickly cycle the key, just BUMPS at a TIME, im sure injectors are shooting fuel when that is being done, so after about 5 or 6 BUMPS like that, the engine will run, BUT SUDDENLY DIES when that fuel burns .. 2 - 3 SECONDS.. Never ran into one this tough
  14. I know I'll catch some wrath here, but I'm looking to swap the center console on my 2020 2500HD AT4 Sierra for a jump seat. We just had our forth child and we can no longer take the truck anywhere as a family. I've got a couple questions that I think members will likely be able to answer. Will this swap leave anything unfinished on the underside of the dash below the controls? Will there be carpet under the current storage area of the console? I've been able to locate a number of 1500 jump seats, but can't find any 2500HD. Will a 1500 work in a 2500? My seats are black leather now. Thank you
  15. In 2020 I purchased a new Silverado 2500HD. Vehicle has the GAS 6.6L Engine. It recently had it's second Oil Change and Service. Vehicle ONLY has 6,500 miles on it. Now it has a knocking noise when idling. I took it back tot he dealer where I purchased it. They have had it for over a week. Initially told they had no idea what the noise was. They were communicating directly with GM to diagnose the issue. As of now they have replaced engine bearings and dropped the Oil Pan with no loose or metal particles in the Oil. With all of that said and done the noise is still present and they are waiting for further instructions from GM. Just curious if anyone else has had this issue?
  16. Zane Merva Executive Editor / Publisher, GM-Trucks.com April 12th, 2019 A few months ago we started to notice something on our 2019 Silverado that no owner of a brand new vehicle wants to see. Rust. Specifically on our rear bumper, just around the plastic step. It wasn't huge and didn't spread very far from the edge... but we couldn't stop noticing it. There was no excuse for rust on a 8 month old vehicle with less than 10,000 miles. The photo above shows the minimal but noticeable rust patch. It was even happening on both sides and in the same place. The issue seemed odd. Unfortunately, we've just been too busy to bring it by to our local dealership for them to look at. Lucky for us, our procrastination has paid off, because in the time between us first noticing the problem and getting off our lazy asses to drive to our dealer, GM has released a TSB about this very issue. It appears that on most of the early trucks, production of the bumper was completed incorrectly. The steel assemblies should be bent into shape then chrome plated. But that didn't happen in a small part of the early bumpers. The supplier bent the area around the side step after the bumper was chromed. The new folds in the steel damaged the chrome, cracking it and making the truck susceptible to rusting. What's the fix? If your bumper is rusting already, Chevy and GMC will replace it. If it has not yet started to rust, they will apply an automotive grade wax/sealant to prevent rust in the future. If you're unsure if your 2019 has this issue we suggest doing the following: 1. Give your truck a bath for heavens sake! 2. Clean the rear bumper step area with a hose or pressure washer. Front and back! We find lots of dirt collects behind our step in the bumper assembly. 3. Inspect around the foot step area and behind the foot step area. We found rust in both areas! 4. If in doubt, wait for it to rust and kindly ask for a new rear bumper. Our dealership, Banks Chevrolet in Concord, NH has been great getting our rust issue fixed. Our service adviser Justin has kept us in the loop during the repair and gave us a loaner Silverado LT while they have our truck. He even made sure any other outstanding service updates are also applied to our LTZ while it was in the shop. As it turned out, there were six open issues that needed addressed. Here's the official Service Update you can print out and bring to your dealer when you take your Silverado or Sierra in for service.
  17. Vehicle Details 2023 GMC Sierra Denali with a LZ0 3.0L Duramax Diesel. It has 7,300 miles in total. Issue DEF Level indicator not reporting proper fluid level. At startup, with DEF tank full, the center dash display shows “DEF Range 200 mi”. If the level drops by one gallon below full, the display shows “DEF Level Empty” and you can not use any of the other center dash displays. It locks the display and only shows “DEF Level Empty”. Appointment With Dealer After arriving for my appointment and explaining the above for the second time, 1 hour and 20 minutes, they said I was all set. They didn’t perform SB # 22-NA-150. They reset the DEF system and cleared its data. This seems to have corrected the issue, but I’m not confident that this is a long-term solution. The DEF level indicator still is reading less than full when the tank is, like it will show no higher than ¾ full. Anyone else having this issue? Any long term fix?
  18. I'm wanting to add some additional light on the back of my 2023 2500 AT4. So, I've purchased a CURT (56584) 7way T with a 5way plug as well a set of Rough Country 6" slim light bars (97026B) for a side by side. My thoughts were to add the 7way T so I didn't have to cut or tap into any factory wires and then wire the lights to the 5way reverse wire. But after getting the lights from Rough Country today, I'm a bit confused on how I can do this. The light bars come with a wiring harness that includes a relay, two wires plugs for each light, a battery +/- leads and a on/off switch (which I don't want since I don't want to turn them on/off by switch but when the truck is in reverse). Any suggestions on how I could make this work?
  19. To all the GMC guys...I've got the fix! Firstly, just want to thank @spurshot for inspiring me to put this into motion. Ever since I saw the 14+ GMC's, I thought to myself hmm...I wonder if it's possible to make those bright DRL LED's run the same at night. I probably wouldn't have dived into this if it wasn't for Spurshot's How-To on the Fogs w/Highs as I used the same idea with this. So here it is, using the same 1N4004 diodes: BCM X4 (Black Connector) Pin 1 to Pin 7 Pin 2 goes to Pin 7 on BCM X5 (Brown Connector) See pictures below for the schematics. BEFORE & AFTER And yes...I'm putting in HID's this weekend. Just picked up a 2015 Denali CC 6.2L/8spd in exchange for my 2014 High Country and the mods are still in progress! Enjoy
  20. I recently did my 2011-14 HD conversion on my 2009 single cab. The bumper sags so I bought the bumper brackets to fix the sag. I just have not seen a video or might not understand how to install them. Any help?
  21. I have a 2014 Silverado LTZ (very high milage - 219,000) Runs great and still has some power left under the hood. For the most part, it is in great shape. It have a strange noise when acceleration or getting up to about 3 or 4 thousand RPM. It only does it under load, so it is hard to find where the noise is coming from. In the attached video, it takes place at 12-18s and then again at 40-46s. It is hard to hear because of the wind noise, but I can't figure out how to isolate the noise any better. If anyone has any ideas, I would sure appreciate the input. The water pump was just replaced, and so was the alternator, along with the tensioner pulley. I admit my limited knowledge under the hood, but I am willing to learn and fix it, if I can. https://youtu.be/PctCm6Ai09Y

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 5-6-2019 General Motors is recalling 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 vehicles, 2017-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 vehicles, and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with Duramax 6.6 liter diesel engines and an optional engine-block heater. The engine block heater cord or the terminals that connect the heater cord to the block heater may short circuit and fail. GM says that a short-circuit may damage the engine components and increase the risk of fire. Unfortunately, GM does not have a fix yet for the problem. To see if your truck is on the list of those recalled, you can use the GM Recall Lookup Tool found here. GM's number for this recall is N182206310. If your truck is on the list contact your dealer to be sure you get updates.
  24. Thought oil pressure was low so when I got home I checked the level, level was fine. However, the oil was black. Dealer did the first oil change maybe 1500 miles ago (only 8900mi on it currently) and the oil is black already. Is that normal? I understand that the black color indicates the presence of carbon and is normal, and does not mean it needs to be changed simply based on color. It didn't smell burnt or "old" either. I really do not run this truck that hard and especially not so during the last 1500 miles. I'm just hoping someone can educate me on the world of diesel engine oil and differences vs gas engine oil. I would expect the oil not to be thorougly black after such a recent oil change.
