  1. I tried the search but came up empty. I have a 2014 Silverado WT as a work vehicle. A couple of weeks ago the drivers door just started unlocking itself, both while driving and while parked- not a nice feature if you like to keep your belongings secure. One person suggested that the alternator was (somehow) to blame, and the shop tested it and replaced it, stating that it was putting out too much voltage, and replaced the battery at the same time. Within one day it began again. To spare the details, I traced it to the key fob- with the battery out of the fob, the doors do not try to unlock themselves anymore. A brand new battery did not fix the problem. Has anyone else had this happen? Is my problem the fob, or is it inside the truck with whatever receives the signal from the fob? Anyone know anything else to further diagnose? I CAN just take it to the dealer, but then I'm sitting around for half a day. Thanks.
  2. New member. Please let me know there's an error with my post. I've found two security issues on my 2019 Silverado and wondering if I'm missing something before contacting Chevy. 1. I can start the truck as usual with keys in the vehicle, then place the keys outside the vehicle and drive away, miles away, turn off the engine and restart the truck, repeatedly. It only presents a problem when you turn the truck off AND open the door. Then, it will not restart. 2. If you find the truck unlocked and you do not have your key fob, there is no way to lock the truck. You can press the lock button but it immediately unlocks. Any help is appreciated.
  3. I have had a problem with my remote keyless entry system on my 2001 Chevy Silverado for at least a year now. I have not been able to unlock or lock my vehicle from any distance, rarely only within a few feet, and even then it is intermittent. I bought the correct replacement key fob, and through several long attempts I was able to program it to my truck, and it has the same problems as the original key fob, which I did try to re-program as well. I am quite certain the problem is due to the wireless receiver in the truck, however I find limited and varying information on where it is located to diagnose or replace it. I went to a Chevrolet dealer earlier and was told it would cost $150 for them to just look at it. I am capable of doing many repairs myself and would like to know if anyone could help find where the malfunctioning component is, or if there are any other tests of some sort that would help me. Thanks.
  4. My key fob was stolen a couple weeks ago and I’d like to replace it. My SLT has the keyless entry/push button start, with remote start and tailgate lower. Talking to the dealer it’s about $350 for a replacement key and programming. Looking around online, I can get a replacement fob from www.carandtruckremotes.com for about $120 less than the dealer. Not sure if anyone has purchased from there, but it has highly rated reviews. The next step would be programming the new fob to work for my truck. I have one working fob now. I’ve looked around online and on this site and haven’t seen if this is possible to do yourself. I’ve seen a few things listed that say about turning the backup key in the door a few times, but wasn’t sure if that would work and make the key function properly (remote start, etc.). I’d also like the new key to be linked to “Driver #1” as this was always my settings, etc. Anybody replaced keyless entry/push button start key fob in a GMC without having to program it at the dealership?
  5. I am looking to see if anyone has been able to program their own key fobs with any cheaper machines. I have seen the Dorman programmers on eBay and Amazon which can program a 2016 Sierra Key fob. I would like to purchase a programmer or something similar like a diagnostic tool that could also program my wife’s 2012 Malibu or at least the newer GM trucks. Has anyone had luck or know of anyone able to program keys and key fobs with any cheaper tools? Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
