  1. Looking for some wisdom here. I have a 2002 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 LQ4 with a 4l80. Backstory: I blew the engine at around 200k miles and just replaced it. I figured while i was at it, I might as well replace the torque converter as well. NOTE, I had no issues with the old torque converter or the 4l80. It shifted smoothly consistently. I got this torque converter for the 4l80: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/pro-king-automatic-transmission-remanufactured-torque-converter-gm88h/10011464-p?product_channel=local&store=9892&adtype=pla_with_promotion&product_channel=local&store_code=9892&&&&&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiArLyuBhA7EiwA-qo80JeskOfw5S1-A-xYYUBwIeJOBIBiQn3lfeBvRNIgPmm54JJ2XL0oDBoCPgMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds It's a remanufactured 4l80 Torque converter with a 2200-2400 stall which I believe it a bit more than stock. It got installed properly, filled with about 1.3 quarts atf before installation but has been giving me issues since. Upon start up, the converter slips with a bit of a shudder before shifting into first gear and continues to slip in first gear if anything more than a gentle push on the gas pedal is used. However, after about 10 minutes of driving, this goes back to normal and it will get into first just fine unless it's on a steep hill. The converter still revs up and slips as it goes into 2nd, third or 4th gear somewhat but I think that may be due to the slightly higher stall... Anyway, I wondered if it could be due to the computer learning the new converter and put about 150 miles on the truck but it still does the same on startup. As far as I know, I didn't loose fluid during the torque converter change but I'm planning on changing the transmission fluid this weekend to see if it helps. Does this ring a bell with anyone's experience? I'm not a professional mechanic but something seems wrong here. Is it a faulty remanufactured converter or does it sound like user error. As far as I can tell, none of the slippage is due to the transmission. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to pull the 4l80 to replace the converter but will if that's what's needed. Thanks
  2. I've had my truck for 10 days. Many things are great , it's the 2021 Crew cab, 5.3ecotech v-8 RST Z71. I now have 670 miles, none off- road. I traded in my 2006 Z71 at 168,000miles. This new truck has alot of rattles, I wasn't expecting that. What is it? It's coming from the middle or rear of the truck. Maybe the back seats and or the tailgate. Another rattle is up front around the brakes or tires. Anyone else have this going on?
  3. My new 2019 Silverado RST with 23 miles has a TPMS problem. I got the service TPMS message. I took it on a trip the day after I bought it and when the message came up, I checked the tires and two were low. I aired them up and the tire pressure light did NOT go away. It is still on after several data and after driving 500 miles. I figured out how to check the various stuff in information center. When I get to tire pressure part, it shows no reading on all four tires. It just has a dash for each one. Is this something I can reset? Am I supposed to set it? Still waiting to hear from service department.
  4. First post, new user here! Got out of my first pickup in 2015 due to the Oil crash in Alberta Canada, things are looking better and im getting into a 2020 GMC sierra 1500 elevation crew cab, short box with X31 package. Got a great price on the truck along with 0% financing. GM has a lot of factory accessories that can be added to their trucks. Im for sure going to get the flush fit box cover. Any advise on other upgrades to do right away would be appreciated!! Thanks, Looch
  5. Long time lurker on the forums and have read and used lots of advice from the site over the years. I appreciate all the contributors that help and explain things to those of us that are still learning. Hoping someone can assist or explain how to correct the issue I have with the install of my new rack and pinion. 2006 GMC Sierra crew cab 1500 SLE, 5.3 After installing a brand new rack and pinion (not rebuilt unit), my left rotor is at about 10-15deg angle facing out left and my right rotor is about 20 deg angle facing out to the right. So they look like this - \ / but not to that extreme. I did a front end rebuild on my pickup last week. I replaced upper control arms, lower control arms, stabilizer bar links, and shocks on both sides of the front end. After I completed all this, I reinstalled tires while waiting on my new rack and pinion to arrive. Everything looked normal as before. Received the new rack and pinion and outer tie rod ends a couple days ago and did the install following a detailed video as well as instructions someone posted on these forums. Only thing I did different was not drop the stabilizer bar as I noticed I could pull the bolts almost completely out and remove and reinstall the part without that step. I tied the steering wheel so it wouldn't move and I counted the turns of the outer ends, oddly they were both exactly 16 turns. I installed new outer ends with 16 turns on each side. When hooking back up the steering shaft to steering gear, I had to rotate the steering gear about 1/2 turn in order for the shaft to slide onto it. I had previously marked the shaft and old gear per instructions, but I'm guessing that is meaningless on a new install. Is this as simple that I need to adjust the outer ends to get them closer in to alignment? Which would mean the new unit is slightly different than the old one? In hindsight I wish I would have more closely compared the two and measured the full length, end to end. The new rack and pinion came with the inner tie rods already installed. I could pull it all back off and do the measurement, but hoping someone responds with the answer and I don't have to perform a complete removal and install again. I plan on taking to a shop for an alignment, especially with everything I have done, but I don't want to drive 30 miles with the tires that far out of whack. Additional question, the old unit has what appears to be just a connecting rod between the right and left boots, but the new unit didn't come with this. Is that of any significance or just different manufacture styles? From what I can tell, it appears to be on remanufactured units, but not on brand new ones. Maybe just part of the rebuild kit? It was kind of in the way to remove the ground strap from the old unit and I had to use open end wrench, but since it wasn't there on new unit, I was able to replace bolt with socket and ratchet. Thanks for any and all assistance.
  6. Just actually stumbled across this page while browsing coloradofans. Jeff from Dallas Texas, 2018 Colorado 4x4 LT, basically Stock as it's my daily. Also have a 2018 Camaro ZL1. I need some help, before I start looking at all of your trucks, mods, other cool stuff.. (copied this from coloradofans.com, also from a few subs on reddit..) Hi all, need some advice- Let me preface this with, I am not trying to get anyone in trouble nor an I trying to throw anyone under the bus. I just want my Colorado fixed. I appreciate anyones feedback as I explain the story. 2018 Colorado LT, 4x4, 30k miles.... About three weeks ago, I had an appointment at my local Chevrolet dealer, which is a very large dealer in the Dallas/Fort-Worth metroplex. The truck has a very weird sounding, only can be described as an intermittent, yet ANNOYING and LOUD squeaking/rubbing sound coming from what sounds like the front of the truck. I showed up to my appointment, and the service advisor and I went for a ride, and he said that he could barely hear the sound, but I was able to hear it as clear as day. He also pointed out that he heard it when we accelerated, and when we braked. Nothing when we were coasting, not using the brakes, etc. He told me that I would have to leave it with him for a few days, or get there early on a Saturday for his guys to take it in. I didn't have the ability to do that at the time, so I told him I would reach back out in about a week or so. Fast forward a week - I was to be traveling so I was going to leave the truck prior to leaving the DFW airport. I ran some errands in the morning, and after getting the truck up to operating temperature, It is not making the sound, at all. Unfortunately I did not have the time to deal with this at the time so I went back to my house, and hopped a ride to the airport. Once I got back, and started my routine I noticed that the noise is still back and I can still hear it as loud as day. I made an appointment for 8:15 AM on last Tuesday. I showed up at 7:30 and they got me checked in. We took it for a ride around the lot, and the service advisor heard the noise. He got me right in. the shuttle took me to work. About three hours later he called me and he said - and please bear with me, I am no mechanic and my terminology may be off - "There was a seal in the transfer casing that was rotted..we fixed it, blah blah..and now it is not making the noise, OH, and you need an oil change. Want that while you're here?". Hopped an uber back to the dealer on my lunch and drove back to the office. Everything seemed fine. I got out of work around 5pm that day and went to the grocery store, sure enough, the noise is still there, and louder than ever. I am getting frustrated at this point. I reviewed the work order only to find out that it mentions nothing about fixing anything, only that the tech could not duplicate the issue I described. At this point, I am very hesitant to go back to that dealership, so I reach out to some other local enthusiasts for a referral, and I make contact with someone who works at a dealership about 30minutes south of where I live. I was to stop by Saturday morning, and ask for his buddy the service advisor. No problem at all. I stopped in right on time, met with the advisor, we took it for a ride around the lot. Sure enough, there it is! The noise on the stop, and on the go! He heard it, I heard it. But he told me that they won't get to it until Monday because the suspension, front end guys, etc, won't be in. I say OK, Whatever it takes. I also say, hey since I am new to town and need my registration switched, can you guys please do a safety inspection? He says yeah no problem. Another $35 uber back to my apartment. Today I get a call. And now, I am being told that the noise I am hearing is the noise of air going into the engine, and it's louder because I have a K&N Blackwing Cold Air Intake system. Which makes absolutely zero sense, since the noise only happens on the stop and go, and it's also a grinding/rubbing/squeaking noise. However, at this point.. I am not arguing. Because I have a short temper and I really don't want to be mean right now. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar. I just picked it up, and it's still making the same noise. The intake is not causing the issue.. and I don't have the stock one as I just moved here. I'm not a mechanic, but that's the stupidest **** I've ever heard. I have had intakes on all of my cars. There's one on my 2018 ZL1 camaro, no noises like that. I had them on my 2016 SS, 2015 C7, etc.. Never had any issues. The only COMMON issue here is that much like in the past like I've dealt with Pontiac back in 2009, the dealership is using any kind of excuse to not have to do any work at all. (Example - in 2010, broken ball joint on my 2009 g8 gt - they blamed it on my roto-fab engine covers hitting the hood, when in fact, it was a MAJOR TSB..) So a couple of things. 1) Where in DFW can I go to get this fixed 2) Should I even bother calling the GM customer care number.. because I am SERIOUSLY SICK OF "NO RENTALS BEING AVAILABLE" and having to pay for an uber. It's going to cost me $36 to get to the dealer tomorrow to pick the truck up. 3) Any other advise. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum but I have been doing my research on the new generation of gm half ton trucks. Long story short, I was in a very bad car accident back in December, I came out of a small acura tsx 6 speed (5 star crash safety rating) which is the reason I'm alive. Ive been looking pretty consistently at 2013+ rams, and the 2014+ gmc sierras and chevy silverados. I really like the styling of the new sierras and silverados but I have been reading threads regarding lots of issues that they seem to be plagued by. I wanted to see if anyone can voice a long term perspective on the 14's. From what I've been reading it looks like theres a lot of lemons out there. As far as configurations, I'd want to have 4wd, the 5.3 power plant and a crew/quad cab option. I would mainly be using the truck to commute to and from school. I'm 19 and go to school full time with two jobs on the side, needless to say I don't make enough money to be fixing a lemon if I get stuck with one. I need a truck that can last me at least 5-8 years thats safe and somewhat decent on gas. Thank you -Nick
  8. So I purchased a 98 sierra 1500. Drove it around for a few days before I realized the front speakers in the door didn't have any sound. So, i did what any other sane man would do, and replaced the speakers. Theres still no sound. The stereo was already replaced with the duel din out of my previous truck. So it's not that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing left to replace would be the wiring correct?

  10. What's up guys, I'm Shaun. I recently purchased a 2015 silverado after much debate and have been scouring the forums for information. I finally decided to register and be a part of the community. I guess my general goal for my truck is a fullsize overlander. This will take years to complete due to pocket change being low, but the goal is in place. I guess about me is next. I reside currently at fort bragg North Carolina. I'm a disabled veteran just making my way through life although I'm Originally from New Hampshire. Hopefully I can bring ya'll a fun build once it starts to really get rolling. Thanks for your time!
