  1. I have the 3.0L Duramax diesel, and on random cold starts there is a buzzing coming from behind the dash. Haven’t been able to find where, sounds like two plastic pieces vibrating against each other. Anyone have happen to them? Tough since it doesn’t do it consistently. Attached a video of the sound. 4b67c43a-b3fd-46f3-b834-e703b37aad0a_compressed.mp4
  2. Hi, I have a 2014 Sierra and it’s been making this really loud rattle every time I hit a bump for a couple years now. Would’ve had it fixed by now if it weren’t for all the other, bigger issues that constantly pop up. I’ve always assumed it was my leaf springs, so I went ahead and replaced all the leaf spring isolators, and also went ahead and added a few of my own. I have a total of 8 isolators on each leaf spring and it still makes the noise. It sounds like a crappy old boat trailer going down the road at this point. I assume these are the original springs at almost 200k miles, but the fact that they still make the noise even with the isolators leads me to believe it may be something else. I’ve hammered and wiggled everything under there, but the only way to recreate it is to drive. If I need new springs, I’ll do that, but I figured I’d check and see if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it. I was able to mount my GoPro and get it on video, here’s the link YouTube link to video
  3. Hi All, In my GMC truck 1500 Sierra, it makes an abnormal noise under the brake pedal area while pressing it. The sound comes directly from interior and its like a whistle sound and called sometime a hissing noise. The brake system functions properly and without any defects except the mentioned noise. Is it possible from the brake booster? or could be from other sources? Appreciate sharing your experience feedback in this problem. Regards, Abdulla brake gmc.xspf
  4. Hello everyone. I've recently purchased a 2020 Silverado 1500 from a dealership. I found out late in the sale that the truck was used as the dealerships "loaner" which didn't really bother me even though I know people beat up those vehicles. Anyway, I'm pretty in-tune to vehicle sounds and I had a couple of questions regarding noises I'm hearing from my vehicle. The first is a clunking noise and a physical jolt when I shift from Drive to Reverse. I have my foot on the brake and am on a flat surface. I notice it a lot after I've been driving for a while and go to back into my garage. I took the truck back to the dealership and they chalked it up to bad U-joints. They slapped 2 fresh sets on, but I've still go the issue. Any ideas what it may be? I don't feel like anything is going to fail, but I also don't like the sound and don't think it should be that way. I have another service appointment next week and I'd like to help them out with ideas considering they don't really seem to care. The second is a ticking noise coming from the undercarriage. I' got under the truck today and believe it's coming from the rear portion of the engine, but I'm not for certain as I've never been beneath the truck while it's been on a rack. The noise cannot be heard when standing at the front with the hood up, but I can hear it very noticeably when standing at the driver's door. I do not hear it as the engine is heating up, but that could be because every other component under the hood is loud as h*ll while the truck is heating up. Once the engine is approaching operating temp, it's very noticeable. As you can hear from the short video, it's every .5 to 1 second or so and is always present during idling. Again, may not be a big issue, but I hate hearing things on my vehicles that I can't attribute to something else. Thanks for reading my ramblings. I can try to post longer videos if anyone needs. Thanks in advance! IMG_8898_Trim_Trim (2).mp4 IMG_8910_Trim (2).mp4
  5. Hey all, I have a 2019 trail boss with an awful noise anytime the rest suspension is used (all the time because you know...) I took it into the dealer and they "fixed" it with some grease.. but that has negative side effects, also it already wore off. So yeah. I just don't understand how this is even a thing. My 2013 didn't make any noises like this. My 2019 sounds like a 20 year old rust bucket. I went on Twitter, but now I question their ability to do anything. They are just going to tell the dealer to regrease it. Anybody else have this issue?
  6. So I just got a 2018 Silverado 2500 and am wondering if anyone has experienced this in there’s. when I turn my truck off and then open and shut the door to make the radio turn off I can still hear what I can only assume to be the fan in the radio stay on. If I lock the truck it turns the fan off for a second and then it comes back on. If I push the power button on the radio it shuts off but again comes on. Anyone have any thoughts or does this happen in anyone else’s 2014-2019? It didn’t happen in my 2016 that had the same infotainment center that is the reason for my concern.
  7. Anyone know what this noise is? It's very intermittent. Seems to do it most often between 40 and 50 MPH cruising with maybe a slight up hill. Never does it on coast or heavy acceleration. Very hard to tell where it's coming from. 20190521_191545_001.mp4 2014 Sierra Denali 1500 Crewcab, 5'8" bed 6.2 Litter 3.42 axle ratio about 118,000 miles
  8. Alright, before you say you don’t hear anything let me explain first. This video posted below is my 2021 Trail Boss 3500k miles and has the most annoying exhaust sound. I know there’s some serious pro’s on here who could tell me what’s going on. Essentially any time I start it up high RPM, accelerate, or decrease RPM’s I’m greeted with this annoying metallic rattling noise coming from exhaust. Took it to dealer who claims it’s normal (per-usual) and says it’s the liters I can hear in the exhaust tone. They checked exhaust donuts and heat shields and found no issue. However you can hear a rattle and what sounds like an exhaust leak. Was told it’s a flapper but it’s not, flapper is toward back passenger side. This is front passenger side. I could best describe it as escaping air coming from somewhere near the manifold I’d assume. Almost like a metallic farting exhaust noise for lack of better description. Videos to follow of noise while commuting.
  9. I've had this issue for two months but it has been minimal until recently. While going anywhere above 30mph, at around 1200rpm if I give it about quarter throttle to half throttle i will hear a clanking/knocking noise. I have recorded it with my phone but you are unable to hear it at all. The other day while merging on the highway it made the noise much worse than it ever has. I am wondering if anyone has had this before, I know some of the 3.0 DuraMax guys have had it, but has anyone with the 6.2 had an issue similar to this. I will be taking it to the dealership tomorrow.
  10. My 2019 trailboss has a rattling noise coming from the engine I hear it over the exhaust. (aftermarket) I don't hear it inside cabin. I only hear it outside also with the windows down. Dealership said its normal but it sounds terrible. Anything I can do??
  11. I installed the 2in Rough Country leveling kit on my 2021 1500 Silverado Custom model and I am getting a clicking noise when I accelerate and decelerate from my passenger side. There is also a louder metallic click when I turn into a driveway and when my front right passenger strut is compressed. This began a couple thousand miles after my kit was put on. It is driving me insane and I can’t seem to figure out what is causing this noise, has anyone had this issue with their newer Silverado’s? Attached is a video that has the clicking sound when I was braking today. Thanks in advance. IMG_4332.MOV
  12. Ever since I got my transmission rebuilt I started hearing a metallic sparking sound whenever I started my truck cold. Also my truck seemed to be having a slight stutter when I started it, almost as if it wanted to shut off, but its only for a half second. I thought it had something to do with the battery going bad (had it for 3-4 years), so I took it to get tested and failed the test. So I got a new battery but the problem persisted. I then took out the starter to get it tested and it passed its test. After installing it back the sound actually got worse and not only made the sound during the turning of the motor but also while driving. The sound goes away as the vehicle heats up and it will not make the noise again until the truck has time to cool down. One thing I have noticed that may be a problem is I am missing the flywheel/starter plastic cover. It sits between the flywheel and starter so I am not sure if it also acts as a shim and is causing the issue. Any ideas what I’m dealing with here? 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 WT 4.8L 2WD Clip of sound here, not the best capture of it but it’s there. https://embed.api.video/vod/vi6aE7zkG3ZoZyQe1NNXrslh
  13. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? I have a 2019 Silverado trail boss and when you turn the fan on, whether it’s ac or heater, there is a noise that is not normal. It comes from the passenger side inside the dash area. It’s not a loud noise and if the stereo is on you won’t hear it. It sounds like the fan motor is off. I wouldn’t bother taking it in if all trucks made the noise but they don’t. I had the dealership take me in another trail boss and there was no sound, just normal wind sound. They changed a bearing saying that was the issue but it is still making the same noise. The second time I brought it in they said they are reporting it to GM. I brought it in today and the service desk worker said it’s “normal”. I asked why the others don’t make the noise and he said it’s “normal”. Obviously not normal or they would all make the same sound. Anyone know what it is??
  14. Getting some pretty nasty sounds from my transmission and wondering exactly what it may be. It seems to only make this sound when in Park or Neutral and also when the truck warms up, does not make this sound during start up when cold. Truck has about 152,300 miles and i had replaced all the fluid, filter and two solenoids at 148,600 miles 7 months ago. I'm pretty much expecting the worst here, but if anyone could give me some more insight as to whats going on besides it probably dying, i'd appreciate it. 15. Just bought this vehicle yesterday and now on the way home going interstate speed’s it’s making a noise like a window was rolled down or something and making my ears hurt along with my wife’s is this normal or is this a common problem and if so what’s the fix?
  16. Thought I’d share what’s going on with my 2012 6.2L Yukon XL. Warning its long, but perhaps it will help someone with the same issues. The short & sweet: L94 6.2 AFM motor with cold start noise. Lifters were replaced prior to our purchase about 9 months ago, and this week my dealer replaced the camshaft & lifters noted camshaft damage. Videos of noise before and after below. There is still a noise after the repair, piston slap - and would you say normal? The detailed story. Purchased 9 months ago in North Alabama. 2012 Yukon XL Denali 6.2L (L94 with AFM) AWD. 1 Owner, 89,897 miles. Apparently at 89,741 (2 months prior to purchase) the lifters were replaced under powertrain warranty, no evidence the camshaft was replaced at that time. I purchased it without that information provided. But no problem, it was running smooth at the time, warm spring Alabama temps. My dad works in parts so had a friend pull the RPO codes & transaction history for the truck, thats how I found out about the lifter work. I did a clean up oil change right after purchase then swapped to my AMSOIL batch on hand. Fast forward to November 2015 timeframe. The nights are getting cooler, and I start to notice the noise at cold starts. The noise disappears once the motor warmed up, and I mean FULLY warmed up. It would clatter for 15 miles to town. I started researching and found TSB & lots of reports of lifter noise, piston slap common with these motors. I honestly wasn’t sure which it was so I laid out my plan to try and eliminate the lifter noise possibility since it was just repaired. From the start of November I completed 3 oil/filter changes. I downgraded from my AMSOIL filters and oil to ACDELCO filters and whatever Dexos oil I could get my hands on. I removed the intake manifold and did a good cleaning of the manifold and intake valves (added a nice catch can as well). I replaced the oil pressure sending unit and the little filter (it was clean but had to check). I removed the valve covers and removed each rocker, cleaned each pushrod with a pushrod brush & B12. I then sprayed a little B12 through each pushrod onto the lifters. Then poured fresh oil over the rockers to prevent dry start. All looked good internally from the get go. After the cleaning & immediate oil change the first start up sounded good! I honestly thought some contaminates just got in the lifters and the cleaning helped. In hindsight the temp was around 60 so the sound was probably just muted. The next day a cold morning, the noise was back. Now even more of a shrill at times with any acceleration. The holidays hit and delayed my trip to the dealer. So last Tuesday I dropped it off at the dealer with 97100 miles. I simply told the service lady it had a bad cold start noise with a prior history of motor work before our purchase & to please have it left outside overnight for a cold am start. The next day she called to say the mechanic has ordered a camshaft & is trying to find out from the previous dealer if the camshaft was ever replaced. Would take a week to repair under powertrain. I had him replace the oil pump & water pump while he was doing the surgery at no extra labor cost. Picked the truck up last night. The mechanic stated he could not find any evidence that the prior dealer replaced the camshaft only the lifters at 89,741. So he replaced both the camshaft & all lifters again. Stated he did find camshaft damage & not sure if it occurred before my purchase or not since it wasn't replaced. He said the motor internally looked real good for one of this millage & the pistons were rather clean (he speculated they had carbon knocked off during its last tear down). So now, the next morning, the temp is 30 outside. I start it up and it has a similar noise to what I brought it in for. It still continues to tap for a good 15 min of driving. Piston slap? I'm hoping this is just the normal noise & we can go on for another 10 years with no major tear downs. Please set my mind at ease. Thanks!
  17. I have an 06 Silverado with 215k miles. Has the L33 Aluminum Block 5.3 in it. It runs great, has good power, but has an odd ticking/knocking noise. It doesn’t make the noise until it’s been running for about a minute so I don’t think it’s exhaust. I also do not think it’s a lifter because it sounds more lower end towards the rear of the engine. Has anyone had any experience with these L33s knocking? It has been making this noise for a while now and it’s very annoying/embarrassing. I’m not sure if oil has anything to do with it but I use penzoil 5w30 full syn. Let me know if you have any ideas, thanks.
  18. I’ve had my Lt Trailboss for just a few days now and it seems like the Hvac blower is louder than it should be. Has anyone had any issues with this? I had a 2017 Silverado before but never noticed the noise. It’s possible that because the interior is so much quieter that I’m just noticing it more. If anyone has any info on this I would appreciate it.
  19. 2017 sierra A/T crew cab I have the most annoying tick noise over bumps, coming from the b pillar behind my left ear and it is driving me brick house, I've pulled at the trim off put my hands on everything made sure everything is tight, stuff rags in between contact points, I've run out of ideas, anyone have an guidance for me, I'm a ex gm technician of 5 years , I know what I'm doing but of course my own truck baffles me..per usual any new bulletins or tsbs?
  20. I had my truck into the dealership a few weeks ago for seat movement issues and it seems they added two small clips to fasten the seat cushion to the frame. At first it seemed it may be better (I think it was psychological), but I now have movement in the seat again. I see the clips are still there, but I get seat movement (lateral and forwards/backwards, not up and down) in turns and braking. It definitely feels like the bracket to me as the movement is small but sudden and clunks, not smooth like the cushion is sliding. Every time I get in the seat clicks/clunks a little in a manner that makes it seem as if it is taking up the slack in the bracket bushings or pivot points. Anyone who has had the actual seat bracket replaced have any better luck fixing the issue? is it the same bracket without a fix to address the slop in the bracket? This is ridiculous to have this happen on such an expensive vehicle. I know it is a new model blah blah blah, but things like this fall under the basic fundamentals. Figure out how to make a seat!!! Venting over....Thanks for the help and otherwise I love the truck so far, but get frustrated over such elementary things going wrong.
  21. At 1800 miles I noticed that my truck started or has been making this really annoying, high pitched squeak every time it switches from V4 to V8 on the highway. It almost sounds like a valve opens up when the cylinders reactivate and is driving me nuts!! I don't hear anything when it goes from V8 to V4. Unfortunately, I don't get to enjoy the "quiet cabin" GM advertised because of the squeaking. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I have the 5.3L V8 in a 2015 LT Crew Cab short box Z71
  22. new guy on the forum here, hi! I'm having a weird problem with my 2003 sonoma. Every once in a while my truck will whines (see video). It used to make a higher pitch whine than that when it was cold outside, but the weird thing is that it rarely does it. And I think it may be related but the truck smells like burnt rubber sometime. Another thing that maybe related to that noise is that when I let off the gas at 100-110 km/h, my rpm drops suddently from 2100-2200 to 1400-1500, and I go from 100-110 km/h to 70-80 km/h in seconds. I've checked my front end and brakes, and the noise doesn't come from there. I was thinking maybe a vaccum leak somewhere, but I'm not to sure anymore since its smelling burnt rubber. Anyone wanna give their 2 cents? thanks in advance
  23. Has anyone else had issues with their lower glovebox rattling on their Chevy Silverado? If I open it and hold the lower glovebox down, the rattle goes away, but as soon as I close it it rattles on the freeway and rough roads. I've tried to re-tighten the bolts and put duct tape over the metal plugs, which didn't help. Any other ideas?
  24. 2014 5.3 z71 4x4 1300 miles 3.08 gear ratio Has anyone had an issue with a loud popping noise from under the bed or around the back wheels area? This is most noticable in the morning and when you are accelerating from a stop around 5 - 10 mph. Dropped the truck off this morning but wanted to see if anyone else had the issue in case they come back and say they can't replicate or find the problem.
  25. Got an interesting one for the forum. After the truck (2016 GMC Sierra) has been sitting a while (usually over night or for a few hours) the pedal let's out a nice squeak. On rare occasions I can get it to do it twice in a row, but most of the time the squeak is only for the first press then is gone for all the other presses. Normal daily driving I don't hear it, it's only the first press or when I have to hit my brakes hard (ex, cut off by someone). My local dealer service department (who's treated me well and has good mechanics) looked at it and said they can't repeat it enough to truly diagnose it. Some squeaks are real quick and others last about 2 seconds. The only way I can describe it is like a relief valve letting some air out, but with a squeak. Sometimes I can hold the pedal in place after depressing and the squeak continues to let out. It's not like a metal plunger rubbing on a rubber boot as I depress the pedal, plus I would be able to make the sound every time if that were the case. Below is a video I took on two different occasions, they are looped a couple times. You'll hear what I'm talking about and see that it's gone on the second press. I did have the vacuum pump replaced due to the recall about a year ago, I noticed it after that but the dealership said the pump and vacuum is holding well the entire time, even when it squeaks. They only guess they had was to replace the brake pedal assembly or the brake booster, but admittedly said that would just be throwing parts at it. Just got the truck back today, didn't get charged for the diagnosis since they couldn't figure it out. Now I'm turning to the forum. Any idea what's going on?!?
