I purchased a 2023 2500hd LTZ DURAMAX in January. Truck drove and handled great until a few days ago. The other day I started feeling the rear end wandering and swaying on me. Anything over 65 is an accident waiting to happen because it can get all over the place. Noticed that if I shake my driver side rear wheel it clicks loudly. Checked lugs and everything else for tightness and everything is tight. Truck now has 25,000 miles it and up until 3 days ago was perfect. Any ideas or insights would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2004 Chevy Astro van 2WD 4.3L with a 4L60E automatic transmission and something is seriously wrong, but I have yet to figure it out. I definitely need some help. I usually do all my own repairs and I am very mechanically inclined, but this has me stumped. I even consulted a friend who knows a lot more than me and he was puzzled and asked that I share with him what was wrong once it has been diagnosed. I would probably be willing to drop the big wad of cash down for parts for a remanufactured transmission if needed, or for a remanufactured rear end and new axles.... BUT the van is not worth spending $1,500 (or more) times TWO. I need to definitively be able diagnose the problem so that I can decide how much I'm going to have to invest to get it going again. I bought it used from a municipal police department that used it as a crime scene investigation vehicle and it has no hitch on it, so to the best of my knowledge it has never done any towing. Here is what happened and what I have checked thus far.... I pulled out of the driveway at work and after I had cleared the 2 lanes of oncoming traffic and was in the crossover in the median I let off of the accelerator and heard a slap, pop, or bang that sounded like it came from the right, rear corner. I instantly thought it might be trouble as it sounded like clapping/slapping two solid bricks together. I hoped it was just something I ran over. Then I pulled out and accelerated up to 55 mph. Then about a 1/2 mile down the road I heard what sounded like driving on a tire that was completely flat. I pulled off the road to check out my tires. I was surprised when they all looked fine. I realized something had to be wrong and I wanted to get my van to a better spot where I could investigate further. I put it in reverse to back up a few feet to better align me with the area I wanted to drive to, but the van would not move backwards. I wondered if something with my rear brakes had broken or locked up. I was able to move forward in D, but there was a good amount of resistance as the engine was struggling to move the van forward. There was a good clear spot nearby where I parked. I thought somehow something had broken in the rear brakes and bound things up preventing the van from moving as normal. I jacked up the van and removed both of the rear wheels, removed the pads & rotors, then propped the calipers out of the way. I put the transmission in neutral. I replaced the rear wheels as it was easier to rotate the tires by hand than trying to rotate the lugs on the hubs by hand. The tires spun freely by hand, but after about 10 revolutions there was a clang noise and the tires stopped. I rotated the tire in the reverse direction and it no longer made the driveshaft move as it had been in the forward direction. Then the clang noise again and the tire stopped rotating in the reverse position. Both front wheels easily rotated when spun by hand, so the binding wasn't coming from the front This made me think that it was possibly something going on in the rear end. I pulled the cover and I saw no obvious problems with the differential. I have the G80 rear end which I had never seen that type of rear end before. When I moved my tire forward by hand slowly there was no movement in the rear end, but when I put my foot on the tire and give it a spin the tire moved a lot and the rear end moves a little. I didn't see anything that looked worn or damaged in the rear end. I cleaned up the parts, cover, and magnet and put the cover on with a new gasket and replaced the fluid. While both the rear wheels were still off the ground I cranked the van. It was still in neutral, but both rear wheels were slowly rotating forward. Then I shifted into Drive and, with the engine idling, the wheels would pulse several rotations forward, then slow to almost a stop and then repeat the pulse & near stop. I couldn't understand why the surge and slow was taking place. Then, I drove it the 1/2 back to work to leave it in their parking lot. The van made all sorts of popping, grinding, and clanging noises. When I stopped I put the transmission in neutral, but it would not roll backwards. I tried reverse and the nose of the van dived down and the rear bucked up, but the van never traveled any distance in reverse. I pulled it forward a few feet into the nearest parking space. The van did throw a MIL code on the way back to work, which was a P0756 (PCM sensed an irregularity in shift solenoid B). I thought that I might need to remove the driveshaft and see if the transmission would turn the output shaft while in reverse. Also, I could try to see if there were and weird noises, pulsing, or resistance to the output shift turning when in Drive. But, I wouldn't necessarily know for sure the tranny was good if it only misbehaved while under a load. I had ordered a set of shop manuals about a week before all this happened, and they have now arrived but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas about how to diagnose my problem before I resorted to the shop manuals. I get bogged down in them because there is soooo much information in them. How can I definitely determine if the problem is my tranny, my rear end, or both? I drive a 2014 gmc sierra crew cab. bought it with a clunk in the rear and have since then replaced the leaf spring hangers (because one snapped in half), and the shackles. i have also greased the leaf springs with suspention grease, along with everything else that could be greased. Tried cleaning them numerious times. have also retourqued everything along with u-bolts. But still no joy. Never trully thought it was the leaf springs becasue of how it feels and sounds. you can really hear it when driving over cracks, bumps, newly patched road. almost like when my rear end drops back down, something in the suspention is loose or worn and clunks due to it dropping faster than the worn part so a clunk occurs. hard to explain but i have been told to replace the shocks. i truly dont think it's the springs but if anyone had any ideas i would help out greatly, thanks.

Hello Guys need some help. I have a 2007 gmc sierra classic 1500. It has a gu5 rear end that took a crap on me. My question is, is there any other differentials i can swap without having to modify anything. Im looking to get a replacment at a wrecking yard but cant find a gu5. I dont care about hauling or my truck being faster or fuel effeciency. I just need the thing rolling again. Please any help would be appreciated.

Which 14 bolt 10.5” ff can I use on my 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 z71? What type of vehicle would I pull it from?

I have 10 bolt rear end and am trying to find the year it is off of. It is 66" hub to hub and has TAAK 013 or 017 stamped on the axle. The ratio is a little under 3:1. It looks like the rear end on my 96half ton. What ratios were available for these? Anything under a 3.4 but higher than a 2.8? The dimensions are perfect for my 56 hearse. Thanks

I have a 2002 2500HD Silverado. It is 2 Wheel Drive, 6.0L, with the Gov-Loc Differential. Recently my axle shaft snapped, when it did it also cracked the housing. I have a replacement ordered that doesn't have the backing plate or brakes. I am currently in a different town than the truck is so I was wondering what tools I will be needing to take the rear end off of the truck, take the brakes off of that one, put it on the new one and put the new one under my truck. What size bolts and if you can also what tension everything will need to be. It is the gt5 g80.

Hi hello, recently my v8 2001 1500 suburban rear end got destroyed, i have a v6 2004 Silverado 1500 with no motor, i was wondering if i can just swap the rear ends on them, anybody know if it will it work? What could be the problems if i do it and its not compatible???

I am looking for help. I was towing a light trailer over the weekend and used my trailer assist for heavy traffic. On my way to returning the empty trailer an issue arose. First, I was at a stop light when I proceeded to go I hear a small thud followed by about 3 squeaks and it went away. Not thinking much of it because I thought it was the trailer. Upon heading home I was coming to a stop sign at the bottom of a large hill and then a loud THUD come from the rear end. Pulled over and did an inspection but found nothing. I made an appointment with the Chevy dealership for today. Upon taking it there, I heard three loud bangs about 100 feet apart, also from the rear end area. Chevy dealership said they didnt find anything and to not use trailer assist for light loads. As I was leaving the dealership, I came to another stop sign, this time, I took my foot of the brake and the truck stayed in place while on drive, I am also going down a hill when this happened. I gave it gas and there was another loud pop then a "release" of the truck. I have no clue what the hell is going on here. Seems to shift and stop fine. I'm scared to drive this truck anywhere.

Hi everyone. Been along time since I've posted about my 2015 vibrator. Well what a story I have for you! I'll make it short n sweet as possible. First the dealership, couple of hiccups but overall really good to me. Second the Gm customer service, very pleasant to talk to......that's all. Third Gm district manager, treated me very well with buyback. 1/16 New 2015 1500 double ltz 6.2 20" vibrated bad from day one! Approx 6-7 months later after 4 sets of tires, alignments etc.. was offered buyback. Ordered a 2017 1500 crew ltz z71 6.2 18" loaded on first order date. ( z71 and 18" highly suggested for least amount of possible vibration problems by DM ) 12/20/16 new truck FINALLY arrives. Stunning, rides amazing. 5/17 4K miles started to notice a little vibration. Could live with it. 6/17 vibration worse, rear end was making odd noise off and on. Rear end locked up several times at very low speeds and just dragged tires. Will leave out all the bs. Rear end was blown. Btw I don't beat on my trucks. GM POLICY.... new model year rebuild only! If 2016 and older new rear end. RFB tires 2 no good. 2 new tires( found out were out of spec to, put on anyways) Rebuilt rear end, 2 new tires truck vibrated worse, rear end made bad clunking noise and all around seemed worse. Didn't want to go through another buyback and was told GM probably won't do it. Traded for 2017 Colorado v6 crew long bed. Surprisingly really like this little truck. Ok you ready.... 207 miles on it, took it on highway, vibrated worse than my first truck. Also noticed whole truck had a slight lean to drivers side. Took service manager for ride and couldn't believe how bad it was. Also measured truck and driver side was shorter. RFB tires, perfect, checked everything, perfect. No bulletins for it. Never had a Colorado vibrate. Nothing he could do about it. Said you got a lemon. He was gonna contact DM. ( I wrote a email to DM in detail of what My family and I have gone through the past year and a half, how much money we have lost, how much stress we have had and to please just give me a new Colorado ) He got in touch with New DM and explained he couldn't fix it, it's a lemon. Definitely should do a buyback. Well guess what DENIED!! IM FLOORED... unfixable truck is mine. Almost traded for another New Silverado but couldn't do it. Lemon law would take to long and they would get me for mileage( which is not cheap ) and I have to drive it. 8/17 traded for a beautiful black 2017 v6 twin turbo crew cab loaded f150. Couldn't be happier. Really impressed with motor, better tow, better mileage, seats more comfortable, all around better. Unfortunately For GM ( not that it matters to them ) I will never buy a GM product again and I will steer anyone who asks away from them. BTW... I personally know several 15-17 Silverado owners who's trucks vibrate, most common said things from them is... Dont have time to bring it in. Don't wanna go through bs. Take the wife's car for long drives. Brought it in got new tires still vibrates. Gonna trade for Ram/Ford. So the number of REPORTED vibration issues means nothing.. lots of people don't have time, don't wanna deal with bs, traded or just don't care. In the past year and a half I've asked approximately 50 15-17 Silverado owners if theirs vibrated. HALF said yes and all at highway speeds. Personally I think they all vibrate on different levels. On the low end response well it's a truck, that's how it rides. It's expected. And don't forget service guys going with you for test ride saying, that's the tires their aggressive your gonna get that. Unfortunately I've heard it all. My Silverado crew rode like a Cadillac until 4K miles. Take no excuses!!!! Thanks for reading and good luck to all.

I have 2010 hybrid with 76500 miles and started to notices a few months ago that after driving and parking there is a clicking/creaking coming from the right rear tire area. has anyone had the same problem or know that is causing this. thanks for your in put.
