  1. So I am at a loss here. I have had an issue with my 2012 Silverado 1500 LT where cylinder 1 eats spark plugs for whatever reason. No big deal I just keep a spare and swap them when I need. That’s happened 3 times since I’ve owned it. The other day I am on the highway running probably 75 when it started running rough, tapping and the check light started flashing. The tapping was like a pen on a desk not a knock. I pulled right off and checked the oil and no. 1 plug. Oil was a lil low and I swapped the plug but the problem persisted. I drove it another 15 miles doing 55 and the light changed to solid and the misfires and tapping went away. I still have a light on solid reading the codes p0300, p0466, and p0300. I am inclined to change plugs and wires along with an oil change. I still have oil life left and is full synthetic and I did plugs and wires a few years ago. Has anyone had similar experiences?
  2. I have a 1997 k2500 Suburban with the 7.4 vortec. It is a 290,000 mile engine and I was recently doing some work to it. I put new injectors, valve cover and upper intake gaskets, distributor, plugs, wires, and a fuel presssure regulator. This engine was fine before and the only reason I had done this work was because it was cranking for about 5-8 seconds before it would start. When I put everything back together, I got the timing as best as I could (I do not know how to properly time these newer engines) and started it. Immediately, the engine was shuttering and I could hear what sounded like a lifter tap. It was idling very rough and after about 4-5 min a louder knocking sound started up. I immediately cut the engine and checked the oil for metal, and there was none. I am simply baffled at this as I didn’t touch anything when I had the valve covers off. My only two ideas are this. 1) it is not timed right, and I need to figure out how, or 2) the old distributor had some wear on the gear, and possibly the cam has the same wear and isn’t working right with the new distributor. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  3. So I was driving my 2014 Chevy Silverado and without giving it gas just driving it started to make a like tapping sound from the engine area. It’s hard to explain but it was making a tapping noise then when I would give it gas it would go away. It’s not all the time but it comes and goes.
  4. Hi all, I have a new 2018 Chevrolet Silverado LS Z71 Crew Cab with less than 500 miles. All is great except for a tapping sound that seems to come from the passenger side of the truck. It sounds exactly like something is lightly tapping on the windshield, but nothing is there. The sound appears to be higher up in the cab, not like it's coming from behind the dash (but that could be an illusion). There's not a rhythm or pattern to the sound. It just taps sporadically while the car is moving. It doesn't happen while the car is sitting still, only while in motion. Speed or acceleration doesn't have any influence on the sound or rhythm. I thought it could be something in the speaker, but I turned the radio off, and it still happens. I disconnected all phones and Bluetooth devices. I turned off all the AC controls and fans to see if that was it, but no luck. I looked all through the cab for anything that appeared to be loose. I did hold my keychain to see if it was possible that was tapping. I'll take it to the dealership next week if I can't find anything and report my findings, I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this unique tapping sound. Thanks for any help. Shawn
