Fuel Gauge Wierdness

Hey all,

I am still trying to figure out the fuel gauge issue from this post. Basically, my fuel gauge will show actual then suddenly drop to E. This usually happens when idling or at a constant cruise speed. As soon as you give it some gas, it pops right back up. The exception is when I fill it up. Then it will drop to E and verrrrry slowly come back up to actual. Also, the gauge cutout tends to happen more often right after I fuel up.

 

I have poked around and have not been able to find much on it. Any ideas?

mine does the same thing does it more when i have a full tankwas told it's the sending unit a lot of them do it ...2001

Definately sounds like a sending unit problem.

lol you should see my fuel gauge. when im on full its almost pointing straight down. when i have a quarter tank its on the full line. so when my gauge shows full i only have about 20 liters in the tank

it's the fuel level sensor on the elec pump in the tank .mine does it to along with gauge problem's thst are expensive to fix .

it is quite common for these fuel senders to go crazy. the stealer will want to sell and install a new pump. big $. here is a link to an aftermarket sending unit. in my experience it will only last a couple of years but is better than the big bill

I have replaced these sending unit many times on the trucks and also the trailblazer/envoys. really simple just make sure that the tank is empty. If you have a good parts store near you they will carry it, I havent seen one at a chain store yet, but an independent parts store carrys them for about $40. good luck
