cerbomark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Finally, Had a EFI live tune done locally. Did the ecm/tcm on the new 6 spd.. Turned off the AFM. Got the same 20-21 MPGs going home 50 miles at 60MPH on very steep inclines. (I m happy with that). Cut the downshift delays in half. Shifts firmer, holds the gear 10% little longer and when you slightly put your foot in the gas it downshifts right away. Stayed with a 87 tune. I don t race it but wanted driveabilty to be better. I m happy with the results. I ve used this tuner before in upstate NY. Anyone with a 6 spd, don t bother with a tune without the tcm tuning too. We had just the engine tune in first and the tcm tune really made the truck drive better. I ll post again after I drive it a few days.
2005LT Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Thanks for the info Mark, glad to hear the truck is running well. I have the 6 speed but with the 6.0L. Picking up a Diablosport Predator tonight and unfortunately will only be able to tune the ECM for now. Had someone tell me that a good part of the benefit on a 6.0 comes from tuning the engine alone. Apparently there's a lot left on the table with this engine when they leave the factory. I'll see how it goes.
Darkanion Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Mark : Glad to hear it went well. I look forward to seeing what you have to say about it after you've driven it some more. I tuned mine with the Predator and it ran better, but the transmission stuff was all still the same. I later removed the Predator tune and had Justin (with Blackbear) tune my truck and it made a world of difference. Especially after getting the shift points modified, the whole personality of the truck changed from having to "push" it to go to it being "eager" to go. I have to watch it more now, though.. With TM turned off, that 2-3 shift will sometimes try to make it jump sideways, if you're getting on it in a curve.
cerbomark Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 The engines do leave alot to be tuned but you are being short changed without the TCM tuned. I would expect this answer with the products that cant tune the tcm now. How would they sell if they told you anything else??
2005LT Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Michael, I would like to have the TCM tuned and getting Justin to do it would be my best bet. Unfortunately, there is no way I can get to him and have a live tune done (I'm in Canada, too far away). As of right now, he can only tune my ECM. He did tell me that tuning the engine would yield a decent benefit. Over in another topic titled "09 Programmers" or something like that I got into listing some of the benefits/drawbacks of each technology as I see it. Diablosport just came out with new tuning a couple weeks ago and a number of folks over on their forum said there is a noticeable difference and are happy with the result. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'll be curious to see what you think of it, after you put the tune in. I know I liked mine at first, but liked it more after I did some data logs and did some tweaking on it.
