Trip Computer - Options?

Looking through the screens on the odometer trip computer I couldn't help but compare it to my company car (06 Impala LT :thumbs: ...

 

I noticed there is only one trip odometer, as opposed to 2 in the Impala...

There is no instant fuel comsumption...

 

I wonder why they make different trip computers...one would think it'll be cheaper do just one...Any way to replace this?

I don't know...

I'm pretty sure it's the same computer. For whatever reason, they just decided to not support instant MPG on the non-AFM GMT-900 pickups. As I said before, I have no idea why... All of the data is there. But, for some reason, they decided to select "OFF" for that feature, instead of "ON." :lol:

Do you have the computer access buttons (4 buttons on the dash), or do you only have the "odometer button"? If you don't have the extra 4 buttons, the upgrade is very easy.

I don't care as much for the instant economy as I care for the 2 trip odometers...

A $170 Scangauge II will duplicate many of the fuel mileage and other DIC functions, but will give you many, many trip specific functions. Like miles driven by day, by trip or by tank. I had one in my Tacoma since it didn't have all that and I really got used to it. So much that I kept it in the Silverado. Until I learned of the DIC upgrade, that is.

I know what you're saying Luis. My dad's 03' Duramax has a "personal" and "business" trip while my mom's 2002 Envoy has trip A and trip B. These are really handy for tracking distance on an oil change or a long trip somewhere. I was slightly disappointed when I noticed my 09' sierra only has 1 trip. Can't always have everything I suppose.

Can someone with a Silverado and a 6.2 confirm? I could have sworn that the the first Chevrolet with 6.2 had Instant and it struck me as odd that the GMC didn't. But it may have been the very first one I drove just to test leg room which had a 5.3l.

 

I'd leave my DIC set on Instant most of the time if I had it...

I always wondered why the '73 Bel Air I had in college had a clock face but no hands. It always seemed like they could put something else in its place or that they'd have the clocks readily assembled and put them in every vehicle. It was funny though-proof that the Bel Air had fallen to the lowest tier of the full size Chevrolet line, and a constant reminder that for probably $5 more in 1973 the person I bought the car from could have had a clock option.

If you add the DIC, you may have the Instant Fuel Economy reading (my 09 5.3L AFM crew cab does), but unfortunately you'll still only have one Trip Odometer. It woulda cost the General only another couple of bucks to add another trip reading so we could have Trip A and Trip B, but that musta been cutting into the profits too much.

i do not have afm and do not have the instant fuel economy feature either.
