Tire Rod End....replacement Boots?

Recommended Posts

The rubber boot on one of my tire rod ends has two small pinholes and is leaking a small about of grease out. I have done some searching online but have not really came up with much for a replacement. Does anyone know if you can replace just the boot without replacing the tire rod end?

You usually replace the joint if the tear is too big. Tiny leaks/holes, you can get by with short term. I've seen aftermarket generic boots for different joints, but from what I know of people the have used them, the "one size fits all" doesn't work too well. They may not seal as well has what you have now. Is this on your '04? How many miles?

I have just shy of 59,000miles

Just change the tierod end. In fact, change the opposite side while you're at it and get it aligned.

Cool, thanks for the info, just sucks because I had my truck aligned this spring....

Would you guys use OEM parts, or is there some after market ones that are better?

You can replace the boots only, but you got to take them loose to do it.

If you replace them use MOOG. They are better than stock and don't cost as much. Just count the threads and measure real good and the toe in won't be out much.

I replaced both inner and outer on my 05 and when I took it to the alignment shop the guy said is was just barely out.
