noticed my 5.3 ticks a bit on acceleration, reminds me of what the 6.0s do...i'm running mobil one, changed every 3k..it does not tick at idle just curious if anybodys got it also, i'm rolling up on 100k miles so i assume its normal lol

when cold I get a noticeable rap. 75K, started doing it at about 55K. Goes away within 30-40 seconds.

... my old 5.7 ticks a little on COLD mornings for 30 seconds or so ... but for startups in warmer weather you never hear it... and never hear anything when running or accelerating

... if you are hearing something when accelerating, then MAYBE the engine is pinging ... have you tried a tank of higher grade premium gas to see if that takes the ping away ... or maybe something is affecting the timing advance

If you have ticking when everything is warm...its probably injector related...

If you have it when cold a bottle of Engine Oil Supplement from GM will make 90% of it disappear...its like 4 bucks and you add one every oil change....thats if the ticks bother you that much....if not let it tick...its just air in the old lifters. It takes a few min for it to work its way out, after sitting for a while they leak down and have to be refilled with oil again....it wont hurt anything...But EOS seems to fix it.

check all your exhaust manifold bolts, my truck broke drivers side rear manifold bolt, bolt head stayed in place until I checked it and it fell out. had ticking noise when cold and got worse under acceleration until heated up, then it would go away.

Usually when your exhaust manifold is cold it will tick, but as soon as it warms up it will stop or be less noticeable.

If you hear a tick coming from your exhaust...you have a problem.

That means that you have an exhaust leak...wither a broken manifold bolt or a cracked manifold...bad gasket...something of that nature. The manifolds should not tick.

They might crackle a little due to expansion while getting hot...and again due to contraction while cooling down....but you have to have the hood open and your head in there to hear that.

The OP is talking about a noticeable sound from inside the cab while accelerating.

This is usually caused by lifters, injectors or cracked/warped manifolds/crossover pipe.

I can hear a miniscule amount of ticking when the hood is open with the engine running, but nothing while driving. I don't think that minor ticking is anything to be worried about. Used to have a '66 Plymouth Fury with a Big Block 318 w/solid lifters, that thing sounded like it had maracas on the hubcaps if you didn't have the valve lash JUST right.

i'm not sure if any of you have noticed the ticking 6.0s make when accelerating? thats what it sounds like but its very very quiet almost oblivious unless you turn the radio off and listen hard..i'm not too worried its been a great motor

Neither my 99 nor 2008 "tick" on acceleration or when cold. "Ticking" on cold startup is usually a lifter. "Ticking" on acceleration would more likely be an exhaust leak, IMO.

If you have a 5.3L with Active fuel mangement it could be the lifters ticking. Thee is also a TSB about lifter tick at start up after sitting for more then 2 hrs. with the AFM. If its bad enough it looks like they will replace the lifters.
