Power Steering Cooler

Recommended Posts

Howdy everyone. Finally joined after years of lurking. Anyway, my power steering cooler is rusted to a point where i am concerned that it could break apart at any second. Has anyone replaced this part? Could a mechanically savy person do this on their own? Thanks in advance.

whats a power steering cooler? i've never heard of it

Its a little (maybe 2" x 12") rusty radiator thing on the driver side next to or on top of your coolant radiator.

Driver's side, close to radiator. Take a look through the grille.

Yeah the power steering coolers are on the driver side near the radiator. Some of the trucks have them some don't. I believe they came with the towing package but not sure. All my dually's have had them but then again there 1 tons. I dont know about a hlaf ton or anything else. You can get the replacement coolers at the dealer. They are around 125 bucks last time I bought one. Hope that helps.

thanks all. I can handle 125 dollas. Why are they not aluminum? I live 1000ft. from the ocean so ive got some rust no doubt, but this cooler looks twenty years old.

There are aftermarket alternatives as well

I have a factory replacement on order from gmpartsdirect.com for 68 bucks shipped. Mine is rotted around the hose connections and is dripping. Local dealer wanted 88 bucks, the suggested retail price. :P

The newer models could be different, though.
