Hid Conversion

I am looking to put on HIDs on my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. These have the H11s that serve as the daytime running lights and low-beam headlights. I want to know if there is a way to correctly disable the daytime running lights. I've simply removed the fuse, but I'm not 100% sure if thats ok. The problem with having the DRLs active is that only one of the lights functions while the HIDs are installed. The same occures when the truck is unlocked (exit lighting feature can be turned off).

Anybody have an answer?

Thanks

Simply cover the sensor on the dash with touch up paint or some kind of tape (paint looks the best). This way you'll trick the computer to thinking its night all the time - therefore no DRL.

What sort of HID setup are you going for? Are you planning on retrofitting a TSX-style projector, or just getting some off ebay and blinding the rest of us?

A true HID/projector setup keeping a separate bulb for the DRL would be cool......

Well that is dissapointing, I just ordered a set of h11 low beams for my nbs sierra, thinking that the day time lights and the low beams were the same bulb, did not see this causing only one to come on during the day.....Any ideas why it would do that?

whats wrong with covering the sensor??

Well the main reason is that the truck will always think its dark outside, therefore ALL the exterior lights will be on all the time, also the I/P lights will be dimmed.

Yeah I knew that, i've done it on a few trucks and never had a problem. Its just that I don't want to pull the fuses because I've been stopped before and screwed over for not having Daytime running lights. Its mandatory in Canada, and if the cop wants, he can issue you a notice of order which means you need to have your truck inspected. PAIN IN THE ASS!
