Gm Fog Lights

Ive got a 04 chevy 2500hd reg cab long bed work truck model. Was interested in installing a set of GM fog lights on the front bumper. Is there a seperate switch for the fog lights or do they turn on with the factory headlight switch? If not what is all needed to install these?

I don't know if this will help or not, here are 2 web sites that talk about what you want to do. They both start out, "IF you want fog lamps order through the factory GM makes it near impossible to install later"

I was told by the dealer that it can be done afterwards by any dealership, but it was very expensive. In Toronto Canada, I was quoted $635 to install at dealership.

Good Luck

I just bought the kit that GM sells from Karl Chevrolet and cost me $230-$235 after tax w/o it was $225 and i have a 2005 which i believe would be the same kit it comes with

-lamps

-wire harness unless your truck already has it on it then you save time not having to put that in

-hardware clips/bolts

-switch

-relay

-new lower valance

I can try to find my bill with the part number on it for you and just go to any GM dealership to get it ordered it took about 2-3 weeks to get it

I had mine all put together and on it about 1hr and 30mins... i had the harness already on my truck also though and if you already have your harness on your truck just make sure you take a pick and clean out the plug and get any corrosion off otherwise you might have problems with them turning on

Hint: when i did it.... since i work in a body shop... its a lot easier to just take the whole front bumper off then put it back on then you dont half to climb around underneath... also youll just half to pop your grille out its pretty easy and there are 4 bolts on the frame rails that youll see after you take the grille off and there are 2 bolts on each side that are on brackets that mount to the body mounts take those both out and loosen the one on the bumper itself and the bumper should fall right off

Part # for the kit is 17802547

I just ordered from a local dealer $225. I have the valence off as I was pressure washing mud out from under the truck, so this should be a good time.

SOunds like a good price considering all that comes in tit. When I bought my truck (used) it came w/ a valence w/ the holes for the lights already cut. I guess I will have a spare, Sice to order just what I need would probably cost more.

Were all the install intructions in the kit?

IMO, the lights themselves are cheap. With that being said, why not just buy some bolts, cut your non-fog light valance where the lights should be, carefully, run some wire, inline fuse and switch and not only can you have factory fog lights for about 60 bucks, you can also have them on ANYTIME you want, not only when the low beams are on. You want highs and fogs, simple, or how about just fogs, simple. I'm not wealthy so I look for the most cost effective way to do things and spending over 200 for fogs lights is just crazy, especially when it can be done differently.

I thought about that, but the lights by themselves were exp, so better to buy the kit, I just wanted something plug and play. I wired up a set on my 86 Porsche 944T and since the harness is supposed to be there or comes w/ the kit. I wont have to run power from battery, make a harness , ectt.. I probably could have saved some bucks by going to a junkyard and pulling what I need.

Finished the install, pretty straight forward. I wish I could of bought the kit w/o the front valence and save $100. I will have a spare or put up for sale.

I did not have the harness present, but it was pretty easy to install.

Would reccomed it as well.

I bought the same kit on Ebay and paid about $240 I think....the only issue was that the instructions were wrong...the relay plugs in to a different spot than the direstions indicate....otherwise, two years of trouble free use....

Yes, the instructions were not the best and the pictures were hard to read. Just know that the relay and power pin(from harness) connect to the fuse box block connector closest to the fender (green I think), in the photo hard to tell. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Other then that real straight forward and clean install.
