Wow this is great, im hoping i dont have to do any programming..

but im thinking of adding a XM unit to my already xm ready Player im going to add to my 09 cargo van.

anyone know if gm dealers can unlock xm units from junk yard take outs? i kno years back this was a huge issue, but id assume not anymore...

anyone know the part#s to the wiring harness that goes between the radio and the xm tuner?

i assume these are "piggy back" wires that go inbetween the normal harness right?

There was a recent post on here stating that dealers cannot unlock used XM units; there is however a third party service that can for something like $35. Run a search and you should find a link to them.

Wow, thanks for the heads-up, any idea on where to get that wiring harness from the unit to the back of the radio?

If it's anything like it is in my Grand Prix, the harness is spliced into the car's body harness. The image I attached of the connector wiring for the "U2K" RPO code is for XM in a Grand Prix and C6 Corvette (both Class II vehicles). In my case, I had to find a vehicle in a salvage yard. I pulled my wiring and connector out of a G6 (not Class II). I had to rearrange the U2K pins to match the diagram; the connectors are the same. From there, I had to pull all the seats and carpet and splice three wires into the body harness and four insulated wires into a connector C200 near my glove box. Of course, you'd want to wrap it all up in electrical tape and make it look nice and neat.

Not an easy feat. but worth it in the end if you're looking/wanting the factory set-up.

I'm starting to think the parts guy I was talking to was just being an idiot. The part number I have is the 20870101, and it looks like the following:

USB1.jpg

USB2.jpg

USB3.jpg

I may take that part off of you if you're willing to part with it.

That part is on some serious backorder. If you're willing, I'd pay shipping from you to me and back to you. I only need it to test something out.

Let me know.

I have a brand new usb port that goes in the center console of a 2010 LTZ but it doesn't have a aux jack.........which seems to me is not needed if you have a usb port.

How did you get your hands on it without buying an entire console? Every place I've tried says they can only get me a full console with the port, and not just the port itself....

Unfortunately I'd want one with both. It gives me the option of letting other people listen to music in my car who don't have an iPod.

A 3.5mm jack is just as, if not more, ubiquitous as Apple's 30-pin dock connector. Plus, I could listen to streaming audio, which IIRC, is not supported via the 30-pin dock (Apple's rules).

EDIT: V8GMT Guy, what are your thoughts?

You do realize that there's already a 3.5mm jack on the face of the head unit, right? I guess I don't see the point of adding another one in the console (in my case, anyway).

Wysilverado: were you saying you'd be looking to sell the USB port you have without an aux jack? If so, consider it sold -- in which case I'd sell the one I have out of the Camaro to GXP25. Otherwise, I'll end up using the Camaro part in my truck.

Guys, just a suggestion for those looking to do this. Instead of splicing your own cable or retrofitting a wiring harness just get two mini b to male A cables (very common) and then a female A to A gender changer (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BSN4UY/ref=oss_product) and you will have a reasonably cheap well made cable to run between your new console jack and the back to the radio. I just got my radio off of eBay and I'm waiting on the cables and changer now to do the swap.

I was simply seeking your thoughts on the proposed testing of the receptacle, lol.

EDIT: My NAV unit does not have a 3.5mm audio jack.

Why go through all that when one could simply purchase a male/male mini USB-B cable?

That's essentially what the OEM cable is minus the end "terminals" that fit snugly into the receptacle and head unit ports.

Agreed. That cable is pretty much exactly what I have; bought it through Newegg.com though.

I looked for just that and the only place that I found it was at Datapro and as you can see the 6ft is back ordered. Plus, I'm not sure that 6 ft would quite cut it to get to the covered console (although I changed my mind and I'm going to put it in the forward most bin of the console). There are a million ways to do it, I was just suggesting that there may be an easier way that crawling through a junk yard for a wiring harness.

Charlie,

Did you ever get the harness issues sorted out for putting in a 2010 USB Nav radio / VCIM in your Sierra?

Haven't seen anything on this for a while..... And You know I am waiting for the FS post of your other "goodies" !

Cheers.
