Backup Camera for 2010 Nav on 2008 Avalanche. I know you are all discussing the USB but have any of you hooked up a camera to the nav that did not come factory. They are too expensive. Was just thinking a a license plate camera pluuged into the VSS/Camera harness.

So I picked up the USB Socket 20918430, USB Cover 20888040 and Male Micro USB Cable 20828635. So know I just need to figure out weather to get a 2010 Navigation Radio or a regular radio with USB Connectivity. To program a new radio does anyone know if i can just hook up a tech 2 or does it need to communicate with gm?

Have to take it to the dealer. Just got mine done for $20. Took about 30 minutes.

Hello all, great thread.

I have a 2010 w/USB port on the dash. I would like to add a second port in either one of the glove boxes or in the under seat portion of the center console. Any suggestions on how to best accomplish this and keep my usb port active on the dash? I really want to keep my IPOD hidden and not have to pull it out everytime I part the car. Had a car broken into just 20ft from mine to just steal an ipod off the passenger seat at my work parking lot!!

Thanks!

Good job on finding all the parts. I would go with the navigation one. I think they all have to be programmed unless they come out of exactly the same vehicle with exactly the samer options. I got a 2010 DENSO nav on ebay for under 500 bucks for my 2008 avalanche, sent it to CPS in California to get programmed for 100 plus 25 shipping. I should get it back this week. Have not found a dealer that knows how to do this yet and I live in Houston with a whole bunch of dealers.

I would just buy a mini usb splitter and a mini usb cable and run another wire to the glove box or console. Just make sure you only use one at a time. Saw them online for about 10 bucks.

Did anyone find out if you can add USB to the 2011 MP3/CD/AUX head unit? Or do you HAVE to buy a new head unit that had USB from the factory? I guess Im hoping that the radio is like the steering wheel upgrade where if you have cruise you can add a wheel with radio controls and the harness and compatibility are already there. FWIW The radio I speak of is identical in appearance to this one here

If I can take a 2010 unit and put it in a 2008 Avalanche and get it to work I do not see why you cannot add it. Just take the radio out and see if it has a miniB usb and if it does get a cheap minib male to a usb 2.0 female, plug in a usb and see if it works. Good luck.
