Steering Feels Loose When I Hit Big Bump.

Hey everyone!

I am new here. I just started feeling my steering is loose when I hit a big bump, turn my wheels back and forth a little while driving. Even when I turn the wheel left or right and hit the brake a little it will almost turn in the direction the wheel was slightly turned in. I just had 2" leveling torsion keys put on about a week ago and got a front end alignment after they were installed. I also had the pinion arm and idler arm replaced about 6 months ago because my tires were wearing too much on the inside. I had to dive 1800 miles round trip this weekend and it was fine. My dad went to fill my truck up with gas today and on his way home he hit some rough railroad tracks and said thats when he started to notice the looseness. Then I took my sister to town for shopping and I felt it. I got school starting tomarrow and dont know if my truck needs to go to shop right away or if it can wait until Im done with school for the day.

The best way I can explain how it feels is. When you have a really loaded truck and front of the truck almost has no weight on the front tires and it feels like a little play or when its really cold and steering feels like it slips a little. I guess you could say thats how it feels.

Thanks for any help! :fume:

Welcome to the site.....what year is your truck...4wd ect...

Could be shocks....push on the truck at the front bumper and get it bouncing pretty good...than stop pushing and see if it stops bouncing quickly or does it continue moving for a few bounces.

It should bounce about 1.5 times before coming to a complete stop.

I pushed on the front bumper to see the bounce and it stopped pretty quick. I stopped at my mechanics shop early this morning before driving 50miles to pick up my school books and he didnt see anything loose. So he took it for a short drive and told me he wouldnt trust driving it home which is like 2 miles, lol. He said it might be a CV shaft going bad, but dont hear any noise in 2WD or 4WD. He will be looking at my truck this afternoon and see whats wrong. Once I find out I'll post what it was. Thanks for the help!

Well my mechanic looked at my truck. When he lifted it up off the ground the tires looked all messed up. He found the problem.... The bolts for the upper control arms were loose on both sides. My mechanic doesnt do alignments, so he tightened the bolts and I took my truck to the place I had the alignment done. I explained to them what was wrong and that they must have not tightened the bolts tight enough and they came loose. They gave me a hard time about it. But they fixed the problem and redid the alignment for free. I will never go back to them again. They could at least said they were sorry and they would fix the problem. Instead they gave me a hard time and said someone else must of messed with my truck...

i hate places with shitty customer service like that

my rule one in customer service:

the customer isn't always right, but give them the benefit of the doubt.
