What are the chances of something major happening to my motor, If i install some American Racing Headers. Current mods, CAI, Magnaflow exhaust, and getting black bear tune in feb. What im really worried about is something major happening and i cant afford to fix. Since i won't be under warranty once all these mods are done. any bad experiences?

youll be fine. the black bear is the only thing that can reduce the lifespan of your drivetrain if you drive it like you stole it. Only because you have to decide when to keep your foot out of the pedal not all the "nannies" as everyone calls them hear. Just like an old carbed truck. In fact if you drive it easy youll prob get a longer lasting tranny because the shifts firmness is higher causing less slippage. Headers and exhaust can make you lose some backpressure and causes slight low end torque losses, but you wont notice it...only on dyno paper/

I dont have a tune cause I NEED a nanny. Otherwise I'd be in trouble. lol

Zero unless you abuse it. Your engine will not mind breathing better at all and can be tuned for even better performance with those mods than without them.

I always suggest to people not to do major mods on their every day drivers, just for the fact if it breaks ur stuck w/o a ride! But that's just my opinion.

I would agree, but modify that to say "I always suggest to people not to do mods on their vehicles that are under warranty if they are skeptical about whether their dealer will work with them or not, and/or they're not informed enough to understand how vehicle systems work and what effects will result from changing a given part."

I agree that it is a very minimal risk that you will have any issues, ESPECIALLY since you are talking about pretty basic "bolt-on" mods! Now if you wanted to change the heads and cam then your risk starts to escalate dramatically! Getting a quality tune AFTER you complete these mods will help to minimize that risk!

Go for it, and don't look back...except to wave at the guy you just past!!

This has been a public service announcement!

are there any consequences from the tune, besides losing warranty?

Only if you abuse your vehicle.

As far as the warranty is concerned, here is some food for thought:

I asked my dealer service rep recently if the dealership would reprogram my PCM after I re-gear to a different gear ratio - nothing else - just a simple reprogramming for change in gear ratio so that my odometer would read correctly and the transmission speed sensor didn't throw some sort of code. I was politely told no - that the dealership was no longer allowed to reprogram for new gear ratios. This policy, therefore, would necessitate a legitimate need for some sort of aftermarket reprogramming/tuning/whatever you want to call it. And no intelligent dealer would be interested in writing over your PCM if you've paid money to have your PCM reprogrammed for a non-stock gear ratio, would they? (Probably not, if they don't want to be on the hook for reimbursing you to reprogram it correctly.)

My $0.02.

Perpetual smiling!! :dunno:

As long as you get it done by a good programmer you'll be fine. After you get a tune, you might be tempted to get on the gas pedal a little more, which could decrease your drivetrain life if you abuse it (as Z'06 mentions). But dozens of people on here have has tunes for years with no functional problems as a result.
