Does anyone know if the factory tinted windows can be repaired? I scratched mine with a tool box and is pretty noticeable.

Is it scratched on the outside??? If it is go to a glass shop... They can probably buff it out..

back glass with defroster too!

If the tint is damaged, probably not. The tint would have to be stripped and reapplied by a shop = $$$

If the grid of the defroster is damaged and not the tint, there are patch kits available for the defroster grid.

It's not the defroster grid.... It scratched right through the layer of tint! they are just hair line scratches. Which really sucks because you can only see them on the outside! Looks like nice see through lines. Bummed

they do make a marker for tinters that they use to draw lines with to cover up mistakes but it is usually in the area of the border. I suggest sweat the tint off and have it re-applied probably $50 or less to tint rear window, less if you do it yourself.

Stupid question I know.... I have never had a vehicle I did not have the windows tinted (aftermarket). My windows are factory tint with 2.5% on top of the factory. But I thought factory tint was laminated in the glass??? When they put the tint in my 1999 I KNOW THEY used a razor blade on all the windows for about an hour..... Scraping off stuff..... Seems like that would have scratched the tint if it wasn't in the middle of the glass.

To add too this... I use light rubbing compound on my glass ALL THE TIME. I hate water spots on black glass...

Last I checked, that's still the case. The Solar-Ray tinted glass has the 20% tint laminated right into the glass.

Sounds like you might want to see if a glass shop can fix it with some Rhodite polish.

That's what I thought to. But I also noticed that the front door glass has chips in it from seat belt ends hitting it when people take them off. I know my rear window on my 2000 was laminated in the middle of the glass. However, the new truck seems to have the layer on the inside of the glass! They are definitely solar ray factory tinted glass as the etching says. I will ask a local tinter to see if he has a marker for it! See if it would work!

Front and back windshields are laminated with a plastic middle layer. Side glasses do not have this laminate. In the event that you have to break a window to get out just the side glass with shatter and break completely loose. Front and rear glasses shatter and will remain semi-structural.

Side glass will shatter into a googeplex of pieces (AKA BUNCHES). That is the safety feature of side glass.
