What Stereo Came In My Suburban?

Recommended Posts

I bought a 2001 Suburban 2500 2wd about amouth ago. It has the factory sub woofer in the side panel in the rear of the truck. Also has a casset player in the center console.

But someone removed the facotry CD player/radio and replaced it with a factory cassett player/radio. So it now has to cassett players in it???

I thought that if it had the sub woofer in the rear that it originally came with the factory Bose system. So I bought a GM Bose radio/CD player on EBAY and installed it.

It works good but it doesn't turn up very loud. I can turn it up to full volume and it only about half as loud as the cassett player that was in it.

So how do I find out what my truck came with originally?

If you bought a Bose headunit, you would have to install the amp along with it. As Rich pointed out, Bose was not factory for that year. Post the last 8 of the VIN and Rich should be able to tell what it came with from the factory.

VIN # 3GNGC26U71G120801

Should I just try and buy a Bose amp, or should I just try and a radio like it came with, Whatever that was?

Thanks Jim

Heres the radio that came with the truck according to the VIN.....Its RPO code "UP0" - AM/FM STEREO W/CASS & CD PLAYER

In most cases the radio itself does not have anything to do with the BOSE setup or not,In other words the radio is the same whether you have BOSE or not,I would have to have a part number of the radio you bought to see if that makes a difference, but I doubt it.

I looked up your RPO list here...

Searched Google for UP0 Radio and found this item on eBay.

It is worth a try for $45 shipped.

Thats actually the wrong UP0 radio for him,There are two versions,He needs the UP0 radio with the CD player in the radio itself,He already has a cassette player down in the upper console.

You see when the GMT800 platform first came out in '99 the UP0 radio had the cassette player in the radio itself, and the CD player down in the upper console (It was like this in the previous GMT400 platform also) then in 2000 they moved the CD player to the radio and the cassette player down in the upper console.
