Air Bag Symbol Flashing On Start

before I started this thread, I looked first if there was a common situation like mines, but none. So I made this thread.

When I ever start the truck, the Air Bag symbol flashes on and off for I believe 6 or 7 times then it turns off. Like the other symbols on the dash, everything should go off when you start the truck right?. Only the Air Bag symbol flashes. Is this a problem or is it common. I just began noticing the flashing. Though It never comes back on while the truck is on and while I'm driving. Techs please enlighten me. I hope its nothing to worry about. thanks

Did the air bag light start flashing after the evap work that was done? Or was it flashing before the work?

On my previous truck, I had a similar problem that ended up being the sensor. It was located in behind the front bumper and was covered with mud. Done a little cleaning and cleared the light. The number of flashes and sequence should represent a "code" that indicates what's wrong.

its normal for it to do this .

what do you mean "going low"?,there is nothing to worry about bud.

drive 'er

Well I say "going low", because the mechanic said that I need to change or charge my batt since its low. Truck starts, but hard time to turn it over. I just told him I'll just buy one outside at sears or walmart. Was just wonderin if that would cause the symbol to flash like that. Thanks GMT for the reply...huge load off my back.

its normal..if there was a problem you'd either have an airbag smashed into your face or a none functioning airbag which in that case the light would stay steady

does the light ever stay on,?

the flashes are normal and do NOT represent a code for diagnoses.

if it stays on there is a code and needs a TECH 2 scanner to diag it.

hope this helps

WTF are you talking about Phil? lol

No..it doesn't stay on after start up. Its the last to go off, flashing about 6-7 times then it will go off. The problem is that it didn't flash like that since I bought the car new. When I start her up, all symbols go off. Now these flashes just came up at start up recently.. really weird. Ok i'll just ignore these normal flashes. I really appreciate your insights Robert. thanks

It actually came on after the service on the evap leak a week later. The flashes go off after 6-7 blinks at start up (cold or warm). It stays off until next start up. Anyone have the air bag flash code for this?

Best of my knowledge it's a normal diagnostic cycle.

Thanks for the reply 99...so is it safe to say that it is nothing to worry about? Man I tell ya..I just recently got my truck back from the shop for an evap leak fix..cost me $481..Hopefully dont have to bring it back for this hopefully non problem. I'm glad i found this forum.

99 got another question...does a low battery charge cause this. I read in another forum (not gm related) that the air bag needs a particular amount of charge for it to work normal. Well im asking this, because my battery is going low. Does this make any sense? Well I know I came to the right place for answers for my 03 yuke.
