Ford Spits In The Face Of The United States Yet Again

It's a good time to be Australian, kids. Yes, winter has just begun setting in down that way, but rumor has it that Ford has decided to wedge a supercharged version of the Coyote V8 into the nose of the Falcon XJ8. Why? Aside from being the kind of awesome we can all get behind, the move is designed to celebrate the model's 50th anniversary.

According to Go Auto, the blown 5.0-liter engine should produce somewhere around 422 horsepower in its base form, but the Blue Oval may offer up to three versions, each with more power than the last. This all sounds good to us, but Ford hasn't said one way or the other as to whether the rumors are true or not. We're all for supercharged aluminum V8 engines, even if they're only sold in another hemisphere.

It's easy to see why Ford would want to give the new V8 a little extra PSI to chew on. The Falcon's main rival, the most-excellent Holden Commodore SS, benefits from a 6.0-liter V8 that has no problem churning out 362 horses all day long. We won't call checkmate just yet, though. While the rumors of the blown Coyote are plenty tasty, we'll want to see that supercharger with our own eyes before we call the game.

So...the best vehicle an United States automaker sells...will not be sold here...and we are to suffer with the fat and bloated Taurus SHOW.

And I think this is far more than a rumor...I have seen photos of Falcon mules with a 5.0 V8 in them.

I would buy this car in a single heartbeat if it was sold here.

WHAT?! YOU'D buy a FORD?!

I'm going to strap on my skates and head on over to the ice rink in hell now....

Atleast you can still get a G8 there...

He has a point, there are VERY Few Brand new G8s Left here, and the factory's tapped out and used the parts for the Factory stock and selling them there as Special Edition Commodores!

There are PLENTY of Fords I would buy...and none of them sold here.

I would but the CURRENT Focus ST

the Mondeo

The Kuga

The Falcon

I like cars that engage you...not boring bland appliances that do a very good Toyota imitation (bland/boring appliance).,

There are many cars out there that people in the US would love to have but are never available here. For whatever reasons we are only allowed the tame vehicles.

Sadly we'd never get a version like this here

Why is that spitting in our faces? That's knowing their market. Americans are pretty damn predictable and don't buy new things all that much. Not to mention the VAST majority of car buyers are appliance-car buyers. Kids and people that are in their 40's-50's are the target demographics for performance. Kids buy cheap shit econoboxes and upgrade them, older guys want what their dad's had or what they couldn't get in high school (Challenger, Charger, GTO, Camaro SS, Mustang). Guys like me with disposable income that buy stuff in the mean time aren't a big enough market share to bother catering to...And when they do...They get it wrong *casts a stink eye at the piggy SSR*.

The only cheap affordable US made performance cars Americans tend to buy with reliability are the Mustang and Camaro. The 2011 Mustang is going to be quite a bit faster than the current version, and will trounce the Camaro SS in the 1/4 as well as the twisties. So Ford is upping the ante here as well. Even if they didn't...I don't see how it's spitting in our faces. They're beholden to their shareholders, not some guy that drives a GM Truck. And they prooooobably know what they can sell, and where they can sell it quite a bit better than anybody on this forum.

Not to rain on the Ford bashing, but Im with Wingnut. Ford is doing better then our beloved GM, so they must be doing something right.

I'd buy a big V8, RWD car in a heartbeat. But 90% of people out there wouldn't.

Yeah...they leveraged everything they could in 2005 and have been EXTREMELY lucky.

Ford is not doing good because of their products...they are doing good because of irrational resentment towards GM and Chrysler for the C.11 filing and because of the Toyota issues. Their products are still as bland/boring/mediocre as ever.

The Falcon would do great here...it would print money.

The Malibu and Cobalt would do better if they were as dependable as the Corolla and Civic too (current gen doesn't count as they haven't been on the road long enough to get a reputation). Aside from Pickups...People buy appliances. That's where the money is. Halo cars and hot rods generally don't sell enough to keep the coffers full or the stockholders happy. GM has been building cars for rental fleets since the 80's, Honda, Toyota, et al have been building cars for people to keep for 10 years.

Again...Ford isn't spitting in anybody's face...But that's just like...My opinion man. :dunno:
