04 yukon 2500 8.1

the gauge always reads 200, i would like to see it run a little cooler, but does the computerwant to see 195..

if i put the 180 in besides running slightly cooler will it hurt or help me??

stock right now but gonna do exhaust, intake, and tune

If you were to change to a lower temp., do it just before you get the tune. Personally, I'd leave it stock temp.

stock temp...i think the temp change would effect the fuel combustion

leave the 195

I did the PowerStat BS to my 8.1...I never thought I could get worse mileage, 'till I did that LOL

I did it with a Hypertech tune, it sucked.

The "stock 195º" t-stats I've seen (including the one I replaced in my truck) are actually stamped 86ºC (equating to 186.8ºF).

The Lingenfelter 180ºF thermostat in my truck is labeled 82ºC, which is 179.6ºF. Expect a ~7ºF decrease in normal operating temps with stock tuning.

If you use a lower temp thermostat, you will lose MPG. More of the heat from combustion will be soaked into the cylinders and taken to the rad instead of being used for power. Hence why MPG is always lowest while warming up the engine.

blackbear said the 180 would probably keep oil consumtion down.are guys saying the 180 w no tune is no good...

what if i have the tune configured for the 180?

I put the 180* in my truck & now have no oil consumption, MPG's stayed same too. Truck runs noticeably cooler. I used the Diablo Predator to program the fans to kick on a little earlier too. Dont think I will ever go back to the stock 195* t-stat.

thanks ddbck for the reply, thats what i was figuring and was surprised to see everyone against the 180, i understandthe oem computer wants to see the 195, but also know the lower the temp and lower the pressure anything mechanical will run smoother/easier. where did you get your 180 for the 8.1, im having a hard time

Found it @ Auto Zone $12.00. I have seen cheaper versions, but I liked the hi-flo hood on the Auto-Zone one. happy hunting.
