Rear View Mirror Monitor Problems

Recommended Posts

I finally installed my rear view mirror with monitor on my 2007 Avalanche. For about 2 months it was a flawless picture. Just recently the picture on the mirror became fuzzy, black and white, and sometimes a line runs through it. There were no changes made to my cars wiring etc. and no new devices were added to the car. I have checked all connections and they seem to be fine. There are no exposed wires inside or outside. Anyone have ideas? Does this seem like it's the camera or the monitor is bad?

While I realize that it may be a pain in the butt, you could hook up your camera to another monitor (could be a computer monitor) to make sure that it is working. It sounds like moisture in a connection to me or corrosion in the wiring. The slightest rub on the body or frame could be letting moisture into the wiring. Once you get a small slit the copper acts like a wick and sucks in the moisture. Those are the worst to find. Could be a lot of things, but I would highly doubt it is the rear view mirror. Those usually work or they don't (meaning you either have a picture or you don't, no in between). Good luck man...

I have confirmed that it is not the camera. The wires from the kickpanel back do not show any sign of interference. So, it looks like something is wrong from the wires that connect from the camera to the mirror.
