Tpms For Oversize Tires

SHooper4

Question

Posted

I put on a new set of 305x55x20 trial grapplers and the baseline pressure for those tires are 50-60 psi. Everytime, I start the truck it monitors the tires and I have to toggle through my DIC to get it to read the tire pressure.

Is there a way to reset the system to identify the higher pressure or do I need to recalibrate the ECM? Is there a fix to this problem or os the system not recognizing the TPMS until I scroll through the DIC.

Not sure if there is a way to up that pressure or not. After I swapped in my larger tires (285/70 r17) I was getting a tpms light coming on at 35 lbs. I put the tires up to 45 and they not only ride better but the light went off. When I get my onstar report it still says my tire pressure is at 45 but recomended pressure at 35

I have 285/70r17 terra grapplers on my truck and had the dealer set the tpms to 50 psi and run 50 psi with no problems at all and it still rides like it did with the stock tires.

50-60 is waaaay too much pressure for a 1500 LD truck.

Run em at 40 and you'll be good to go and won't have any TPMS issues.

My personal recommendation is 40 front & 35 rear... and then bump the rear up to 50 for towing.

Seriously though, having 50-60 PSI in those tires is going to greatly increase your stopping distance if you need to slam on the brakes (not to mention ride like a cement truck).
