Ac Blower Velocity

Hey everyone I have a question. When I have my AC blowing, it doesn't seem to be blowing very hard. When I have it on full speed I can barely feel it blowing when sitting in the seat. It takes a long time for the cabin to cool down. I typically have to drive with the air on full just to keep comfortable. I just wondered if this was typical or can I get a higher output fan?

I took the fan out just to see if anything was possibly plugged up or stuck and didn't find anything unusual.

I have a 97 Tahoe 2 dr.

I had the same problem on my '01 GMC Sierra and just discovered that there is an inside air filter element under the dash, just downstream of the blower fan. There was one screw near the inside firewall and a clip on the front. Once this "strap" was removed, dirt, leaves and 9 years of accumulated dust fell onto the floorboard. The upstream side of the filter element was completely black and clogged-up.

If your Tahoe is equipped with a cabin air filter as most later model GM trucks & suburbans are, it's likely that it has never been change (in 13 years). The filter is clogged, preventing normal air flow into the ventilation system. The filter is usually located just downstream of the blower fan, just above the floorboard on the passenger side. If not, some are located on the driver side of the center hump in the floorboard under the center of the dashboard. These are a bit more cumbersome to replace. Check your owners manual, as there should be some instructions and photos.

Good Luck!
