Thinking of buying my first truck

Hi all,

I have a Jeep Wrangler that is falling apart on me and I desperately need to get a new vehicle.  I have been looking at the Silverados for a long time and am interested in the 2500HD trucks.  Not sure what kind of options I want, I am looking to get suggestions from everyone on what is good and bad.

I need a daily driver to and from work, the ability to tow and haul things when I move and enough room for myself, my wife and our two dogs.

Can anyone give me some advice or let me know what the reliability factor is on the Silverados?  Not sure if I like the new 2003's yet, they are starting to grow on me, but am afraid to get a model in the first year of production.

Thanks all!

The only difference in the 2003 models is the new front clip and some minor interior/dash items like a different steering wheel and radio.  The stuff that really counts like engine/drivetrain have been around for awhile.

The HD line of trucks are very nice, but the only one that is thrifty on fuel is the Duramax diesel.  I am very happy with my 6.0L for evryday driving and the occaisional towing of my 32' travel trailer.  My mpg's are approx 11 city/ 15 highway.

I would opt for the LS package.  That gives you all the standard power windows etc... 4x4 is up to you depending on where you live.  An extended cab is very convenient and I really love my crewcab.

The must have options that are a bargain on the HD's are the polished aluminum wheels, trailering package, locking rear end, and the deep tinted glass.  Otherwise everything else you would want comes standard in the "LS" package.

Happy shopping and welcome to the forum...

I sold a M-B and an 98 Hummer to have a single vehicle. I just sold that 97 GMC 4x4 and am waiting on a 2003. The trucks ride as well as cars, but can do so much more. They can pull trailers, haul things, go in very bad weather and sit up and benefit you in a crash.

The GM trucks are dependable. I must have a vehicle that starts when I turn the key and does not break down constantly.

On the first year of production--I don't think anything in tghe engine or drivetrain is in this category. They are proven. The Quadrasteer system is new to the market, but has been in R&D for years. I wasn't too concerned and ordered it.
