What Is Below The Message Center?

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado and I can't find anywhere in a manual, internet, etc... What the "gauge" below the message center is. I know on the HD models there is a gauge for transmission temp but this "gauge" is totally different. It looks like two "D's" back to back ,then rotated 90 degrees. What my question is mainly is what is it, and what is the uses?

Thank You,

Greg Wilson

That is where the tranny temp guage would be if your MY cluster had one. Like stated, the HD cluster comes with the guage in that location you describe.

For the 2001, the cluster would be this:

You'll notice clearly the transmission temperature, which came on the 2500/3500. The 1500 doesn't have it, just an empty space.

You can use a cluster from the 2500 and put it in the 1500, but you'll have to get the mileage reset on the cluster by the dealership.

Actually the dealer cannot reprogram the mileage unless the cluster is sent to an exchange center to clear the memory, in the US anyway. :uhoh:

Techni-car is a certified cluster repair for GM and where dealerships send the clusters to have them fixed or programmed. :uhoh: You are right, GM is not certified to program mileage. Its a control thing to assure dealerships or auto shops don't mess with mileage.
