New cordless optical mouse

I get into a lot of fine detail, tedious computer mouse work with my job, and finally had it w/ the roller ball "mouses", so I looked into an optical mouse.  Then thought, what the heck, lets try a cordless optical.

I was a little skeptical about the cordless varieties, but this new one has technology for fast wakeups - no lag time that I can see.  Resolution and control are sooooo much better than the rollerball type that I had.  Only potential problem I see is battery life (takes 2 AA).  I will post how much life I get out of the OEM batteries supplied w/ the mouse, and also if any difference w/ alkaline long-lasting types.  Maybe rechargeable types would be a good choice also.

I'm don't want to bore everyone to tears w/ the details, but if anyone is interested, email me w/ specific questions.

W/ rebate, I got this for ~ $40, incl. S/H/Tax.

Had my Logitech cordless optical about 6 months. 3-4 weeks on the batteries. It's worth it tho, not having to take it apart and clean it all the time. And one less cord to tangle up when I prop my feet up under the desk.

I'm going to get one for work pretty soon.  I don't need  cordless.  I saw one at MilwaukeePC the other day for 20 bucks.  This one that I have now gets all gunk on the ball constantly which really inhibits doing drawings on autoCAD.  But I do work for the company that gives the department that needs the most state of the art and fastest computers the slowest ones and gives the best ones to the boss guys who just use them to check there email.

I don't have the cordless, but I do have an optical mouse with the scroll deal in the middle.  Figured when I saw one for eight bucks I couldn't go wrong with it, so far so good.

I needed to get a new mouse after 4years.  I got the microsoft cordless optical (last month) because it actually fit my hand!  Being able to palm a basketball has its problems. :D I wanted a Logitech but they discontinued the one I was saving for.  I have had a problem with them skipping if I move the move really fast.  I guess I need to decrease the caffine intake. :D But if I'm normally "mousing around" I have no problems.

Well you guys just convinced me to get rid of my stupid old ibm mouse that came with the computer ;)

When should the rollerball type mouses be cleaned?? Mine has never been done!!! How do you do it???

Steve, you'll know when it needs to be cleaned.  It won't be "smooth" when it moves.  Just unscrew the ball cover and pop out the ball and clean the little "rolling pins" inside the mouse.

I paid $20-$25 ?(I can't remember how much) for my Microsoft optical with a "tail".  With a cat, dog and 3 kids I had to clean my "ball mouse " alot.

WOOHOO!  I got my mouse/kb yesterday, and it's so nice!  I'm not used to the feel of it yet, but that will change....

I'll see how it performs in games tonight! :D

Good luck Torque Junkie!  Sure do like the mouse though.

I am curious how the keyboard works as well - keep us updated.

Cheers

Oh I love the Keyboard!  It's so friggin sweet.  The mouse has taken some getting used to in Team Fortress and Counterstrike, but I"m gettin the hang of it again....

I absolutely love the volume control on the kb though.  It's as good as a remote control in that sense.

This is the setup I got....
