FIPK for 88 K1500...

COuldn't get much of a response in the light-duty messageboard, so I'll try here...

Why is this item listed as "hazardous" by Summit racing, and why is it twice as expensive for my truck as for any other year/series Chevy truck?

Doesn't make sense when the intake is even shorter on my truck than an '02!

Any clue why it's $123 for newer trucks and $270 for mine? I'ts for sure not worth it at that price...I'm better off making my own!

I have no clue, but I'd look around for a better price.  That may be compareable to other places because I've never shopped around for one for that model year.  ???

I had a '91, and I bought a chrome base and lid, and just bought a regular round K&N that was tall enough so that the lid would go on good without the stud sticking out of the lid too far.  If I remember correctly, it was 4 inches tall x 14 inch diameter.  The truck really ran strong with that air filter setup.

Here's a pic.

$250 sounds like a normal price for the FIPK on the new gen trucks.  I don't know why it would be different for yours?!?!?!

I bet the "hazardous" rating is because when you buy the FIPK it comes with a filter "recharge" kit that includes oil.  The Postal Service and UPS probably classify this as hazardous to ship.
