Factory CD player How to turn on Red flashing security light?

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado, Factory CD only. My question is how to turn on that red LED that is by the tuner knob. I think it is suppose to flash on and off for a theft deterrent when the truck is off. I have read the owners manuel and nothing is mentioned how to do it, which I am not surprised.

I am curious if there is some sort of code or trick to do this?

Are you sure the manual doesn't explain this?  You're describing the theft-deterrent feature (I think) which definitely should be covered in the manual.  For my 2000 Sierra, it's in section 3 "Comfort controls and audio systems."

For my '99, you had to put in a code into the radio.  All the steps were in the owners manual, in the radio section.  I think there was a specific section on enabling/disabling the theft deterent system.  I don't have access to my owner manual right now, or I'd tell you the steps.  It may be different from my '99 vs your '03.  :(

ya I know, its very strange it does not say how to do it anywhere.  In the manuel it just describes that the function is on the radio, one paragraph.

No, it tells you.  All the new GM radios since like 95 have had this feature.

I think you need to push and hold the CD/Aux button for a little while.  Then four dash lines like "----" should pop up.  From there you press the "hr" button to select the first two numbers, then the "min" to the last two of your chosen numbers.

well the manuel does not.  And I assume you need a code and I dont have that either.  I had the same problem deactivating the automatic power door locks, the manuel was wrong and I had to figure that one out too.  Very strange why it does not say how to do this in the manuel that is why I posted to get some help.

Thanks

First think of a 3 or 4 digit code number you wont forget, because if your battery ever goes dead or is disconnected and you can't remember the code, you will have to go to dealer to get it reset.

With ignition at accessory or run, turn your radio off. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together, holding till --- apears.

Press MN 000 will come up. Press the MN button till the last two numbers are that of the code you chose.

Then press the HR button untill the first 1 or 2 numbers matches what you chose.

Press AM-FM, the display will show REP asking you to repeat entering your code.

Press AM-FM again and the display will show SEC.

Hope this helps,

Assuming the bose system unit and yours is the same, my light just activated w/ around 1500 miles on it.  I have an '03 1500 LS.

Seems I read somewhere that they just activate automatically now after a "learn" period.  I also noticed there was no method mentioned to activate the theftlock either.  All I know is I didn't do anything, and now it's flashing.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.  :(

So the 03's don't mention it at all in the owners manual?  If it's automatic I wonder how you would unlock it if the battery is disconnected or whatever ... unless maybe they become electronically keyed to that one vehicle.

The theftlock for the '03 are suppose to be self activating.  The radio is keyed to the vehicle.  At PDI, the dealer is suppose to program the VIN into the radio before it can be activated.  This is suppose to remedy the problem of the radio locking when the battery is disconnected.

Yep, it'll be interesting to see what happens the first time I have to disconnect the battery!!  :flag:  :(

It happened to my mom's old 2001 Yukon and she had the #### theftloc on so being a woman...I mean my mom...she decides to punch in the wrong code X amount of times and lock the #### radio up so we had to buy a new head unit for the Yukon...if you don't lock it up GM can unlock it for you if you forgot your Theftloc code...

You shouldn't have had to buy a new radio if you accidentally lock the radio up.  The pre '03 radios would flash up INoP after 3 attempts with the wrong code.  If you leave it powered up, for an hour, the radio will revert back to LOC.  Then you can attempt 3 times.  If you don't have the right code, the dealer (or someone knowledgeable about these radios) can retrieve a scrambled version of the code to unlock the radio.   :thumb:

Well we got screwed by our dealer...he assured us that the radio "scrambles" something in the radio which makes it inoperable.

Sorry to hear you got taken by a dealer. The radio does lock, but it does not permanently damage the radio.  It is a real PITA if you get the INoP message because you have to wait about an hour before you can attempt to enter a code 3 more times.  I've had to unlock the radio for a friend with a '99 Silverado recently.  He went through the INoP message twice.  Put in the correct code and the radio worked fine.
