Intermediate shaft in your steering column. Alot of our farm trucks of that vintage do the same thing, especially on rougher surfaces at lower speeds. I think theres a TSB out there for it if im not mistaken

Huge problem with intermediate steering shafts. Just google it. There are definitely TSB's out there, your dealer will know just what to do.

You can buy a lube kit from GM, or a new intermediate steering shaft. I did the lube kit, so far it has lasted about 60k. It is an easy repair, about 45 minutes IIRC.

 Had the same problem on my old 04 silverado, I agree it is the intermediate steering shaft. Just take the bolt out that connects the intermediate to the lower and just push the intermediate shaft in and out several times and it will fix it for 5000 miles or so.

I did the lube kit on mine, and it lasted less than a year. By then, I discovered that GM doesn't sell the lube kits anymore. They now sell a redesigned "greaseless" steering shaft. I put one of those on in Jan. 2009 and its been trouble free ever since. Those new shafts run about 60-75 bucks. And they are not hard to replace at all.
