07 Silverado Stuck In 4 Wheel Drive

:dunno: My truck was switched to the auto setting on the electronic adjustment and now will not leave four wheel drive. The "service 4 wheel drive light" came on and it won't let me switch it back to 2-wheel drive. I am in a situation where I just graduated from college and am not the most wealthy to take it in to a dealership. Is there any "home remedy" options that I could try to get it to allow me to switch it back to 2 wheel drive?

Try letting the computer in the truck reset overnight. It may remedy the problem, if you don't want to wait that long you can disconnect the negative battery terminal for say 20 mins, that should reset the system. If that doesn't fix the problem it could be the switch which you can replace yourself. If not, take it to the dealer and have them tell you what is wrong with it. If it is something you think you could fix then you will be able to save a bunch of money that way.

It has been sitting overnight and is still giving me the problem when I just checked it this morning. I now have the battery disconnected and will wait for a little bit on that. Is there a way that I can get into the switch to check that in the mean time? BTW thanks for the help

I agree with jdubya re disconnecting the battery. Also, do you have an OBD reader for error codes? If not, they are a sound investment, and can be found on ebay for about $40. Otherwise, most national parts stores will read the On-Board Diagnostics computer for free. :dunno:

I just hooked the battery back up and it is now allowing me to shift into 2 wheel drive. But the message is still appearing. Is there a way for me to reset that assuming it is working now? or should I still go get the codes read?
