what a load of crap.. I can see large trucks and SUVs at least 7:1 on an L.A. freeway or street any given day, and all are late models, not old heaps..

x2. thats garbage. where i live, its about 70 percent truck/suv/small suv.

Lets see em pull a trailer to the job site with a Camry!

Did you even read the article? The whole point was that the number of people who buy trucks who don't really need them is dropping. There will always be a need for fullsize trucks for work.

Apparently the author of the article has never towed a trailer with a Camry or ever seen a 2 rut trail. I'd love to take his Camry and leave all the parts below the bumper on thefirst bump it sees. Not all roads in the world are paved, not all loads hauled can be carried in your arms.

I live in northern Alberta, we get snow....a lot of snow. You need a 4x4....something. Dont get me wrong, Subaru, Audi....whatever make a fantastic car, but its a car, no ground clearance. The road in front of my house was a rutted goat trail for the better part of the winter, did I care, no, my neighbors with cars that couldnt get out of their driveway or back onto the driveway sure did. If you live in the southern part of the States, hell, Id drive a car all year if I didnt need to tow my trailer. Most people on here have a truck because the need it for work or towing or to gain acess to secluded places, I dont think most people would take the horrid gas mileage and the inability to park in a lot of places if they didnt absolutely need to.

What is killing it is the insane prices of new Trucks!! Somethings just wrong when every new truck I like on some lots are over $40,000.

gas prices and truck prices..factor in the high rate of unemployment..needless to say trucks will always be around, the days of driving an escalade for a status symbol is fading until the economoy bounces back

one would think..

but seeing as status symbols are more important to the average person than thinking thru the fact they can't afford something, I highly doubt the majority of people this applies to have the ability see that.

the economy is in the crapper because people felt they needed those big houses and fancy status symbol cars, people use credit as income and buy things way outside their means, and those on the other side of the coin take advantage of those people and when the bubble popped.. here we are..

Reading the posts here shows that it seems most did not read the article, they just stopped at the headline. The main point was, the people that buy a truck just for the status are turning away now. The percentage of those that has no real use for a pickup is large, according to the author, I have no idea how he gets that number though, not sure anyone human would ever say they were just buying something to stroke their ego.

I have no requirement for a pickup truck, I do not tow anything, do not put anything in the box, hell the tonneau cover has not been off since I have the box sprayed with Line-x. But, I will continue to buy trucks simply because after a second spinal fusion, it is tough to get into a vehicle that I have to drop down into. I may not buy a pickup next time though, may go for a Suburban, Tahoe or anyone of the myriad of SUVs
