Battery Took A Dump (ver 2.0)

6 weeks ago, had the OEM battery take a dump after 3.5 years.

Dealer checks battery and charging system. Charging system OK, Battery had failed cell.

Bought new Delco battery.

Come out this AM, didn't even have dash lights, nor could I unlock the door with the FOB. Jump started and off to dealer for a new battery under the delco warranty.

Another "made in China" success story I suppose.

$^%$%#&***() ...... :dunno:

That sucks... a few years back... my dad had a similar problem. Two batteries in a VERY short amount of time. The second one exploded in the garage under the New Mexico heat. :dunno:

At least it's covered. More of a hassle

This is why they have warranty. Back when I was a mechanic, I used to hear it all the time, "it can't be the battery, it is brand new", or "can't be the starter, I just replaced it". Yet they always ask what the warranty is on the part when they buy it.

I guess I'm just lucky. I still have the original Delco in my 2005. And it shows no sigh of aging. :dunno:

When I traded in my 05 Silverado for my current rig, it also had the original battery, with 83,000 miles on her! I got 5 years of use out of that battery, pretty good service inmho

I too must say that Delco batteries are good...I had a '77 Olds Omega that still had the original battery in it when I got rid of it in '87 at 165,000 miles.... That includes MN winters as well.

Come down and spend a July in Arizona. I can guarantee you'll have to replace it before the trip home. :dunno: Batteries last about 2-3 years down here.

Well, this was interesting today.

They replaced a faulty flow control actuator for my AC on permanent defrost issue.

They did the tests on the charging system and battery, and both passed with flying colors.....

My ONLY supposition at this point is that the acutator was stuck hunting for a position. Not sure this could drain a battery overnight, but... (OK I'm grasping for straws here).

I HAD noticed, recently, that, occasionally, after shutting down the engine, there was an actuator type noise eminating from the dash around where the flow control actuator is located. I guess it's possible that that thing finally got hung and just kept going until there was no more juice, or it had a short.

I still can't imagine that that would kill a new battery, but..... :dunno:

In any case, so far so good.
