It's cold! Blower out 06 silvy?

Went out and fired her up 10 minutes before I left. Came back out and it wasn't heated up at all, resulting in one cold ride into town. The vents felt warm, so it's not a heater core issue... the fan just isn't spinning. All fuses are good. Anyone else had this issue? What did you do to fix it? It's an auto a/c system, but I turned on the fan all the way and still nothing.

couple days ago my resistor for the blower crapped out..

Good chance you have same issue. Mine was a little different outcome tho as my blower stayed on when the truck was off since the resistor was fired and stuck on.

Waiting on new one to come in mail.. There was a recall / special campaign about it but not for auto climate (yours and mine)..

My post starts at #6..

Check your blower motor resistor, you will have to remove that long black cover that hides the blower motor and resistor, there was a recall on them where some would actually melt and/or catch on fire, mine fortunately just melted a bit and I had to get a new resistor and plug and splice the wires in. About a thirty min job depending on your skill level. So check that first. You will def be able to tell.

That vid shows how to access it. On mine i have the center consule so i was only able to get 2 of the bolts off under the dash for that cover and it just tilted down and allowed access to the 2 resistor bolts.

Mine does not have thee black cover for the blower it self , maybe a design change for 06.

If your resistor looks like mine in the above post with the 2 aluminum finds sticking out of it, you wont be able to find it in stores. Stores sell a similar one but not the acdelco one. The aftermarket was $130... I opted for original acdelco which was $81 from amazon..

Mine will be here tue. so i will let u know if it works if u wanna wait.

I currently dont have heat either.. which gets tricky when windows start fogging up.

Pulled it apart and looked, yeah it's exactly like yours. Figured it'd be stupid to spend money on a new one and not fix the problem though, so I hooked back up and tested the wires. When I stuck into the connector for the purple one, my light lit up and then the fan came on. So now I'm thinking bad connector to the resistor? :dunno: I tried moving things around, but once it was back together again, nothing. I guess I'm gonna have to get the new harness for it

I had a bit different problem with mine that the fan would not shut off after the truck did.. So with mine i hope it is indeed the bad resistor since i allready have a new one on order. I looked at the harness and connectors and it looked fine. Only one i could not see is the one to the blower itself as it is on the other side of the dash. I may take a mirror and try and take a peek to make sure it is all good.

Got it in the mail today, and it is a different design than whats in the truck now..

Came with a new harness to splice into the factory one.

Install was fairly straight forward and easy..

Only issue i am running into is the fan does not kick on everytime the display says its running. When i spliced the wires, I crimped on bullet connectors so if i had to unplug , it would be easy..

But the turn on wire (purple) is a very thin 26 ga, or so.... The first bullet connector i put on i crimped to had and broke the wire, The second one i crimped and taped it. I think it is not as tight, or giving a good connection , so i will most likely take it back apart and solder the remote wires together to have a solid connection. I wont be able to do it till tomorrow or wed hopefully ..

As soon as i get a chance i will make a write up for this with pictures since i havent seen a good one yet for what to do with the wires.

AutoTek ordered a new pigtail for me yesterday I think, I gave up on the dealers. AutoTek is my local shop and they usually get parts cheaper than the dealers in Salina. Plus much better to deal with, know them pretty well. I'd love to see the pics when you get em up.

Messed around with it some more tonight... found out it was not that wire after all as I have varying 6v all the way to 12v depending on how how i turn the fan on thru the climate control...

What i found the problem lies in the blower itself. When the display says its on high, i can hear what sounds like a faint click noise every 3-4 sec. or so... And if i put my hand on the harness connector going to the motor, i can feel a vibration almost like the motor is trying to engage.

So my next venture is to change the motor itself. I have to go back out and get a part # off it , but its weird because a couple of the sites im on looking for aftermarket say it is the twist in lock style like mine, but it says not for use with Auto AC...

Called a local autostore and they said they have one that will work but it is aftermarket and about $100... From what i can see i can get original equip online for around $70.. so im unsure now .

Looks like it ought to work...

had to go thru the connector book to find the right connector, computer wasn't showing it. finally found it, should get it tomorrow, gonna start a fire in the shop and hook it up!

Uh oh. Hooked up the new connector, no go. Tested on plug, no juice. Tested above my splices, no juice. Took off passenger side access panel and tested, no juice. Tested fuses, juice. Crap. I think this is gonna get expensive in a hurry.

sounds like your harness is fried..

Mine is working great now, i havent had a chance to post aboiut it but the new blower motor was the trick for me. THe old one kicked on when it wanted..

Good luck continuing your fight!
