I own a 2008 Colorado which has been giving me problems for a long time. I purchased the vehicle in August of 2008, in February 2009 the vehicle went completely dead, couldn't even get Onstar to work. They came and jumped it and from that day on it ran fine until May 2010 where it wouldn't start again although the lights worked this time. Brought it in to dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Two months later, August 2010 after sitting over the weekend, the vehicle was completely dead again and had it towed to same dealership. They thought it was the battery and replaced it. Two months after that, same problem, towed again to same dealership and they claimed I received a bad battery and replaced again. March 2011, completely dead one more time and had towed again to same dealership. This time they found a small draw from Onstar and reflashed the "vcim". On October of 2011, once again, same issue and towed to same dealership where they replaced the battery and a few cables which they thought were loose. Two months later, on December of 2011, dead again and towed to dealership. Now with help from GM technical support, they are claiming that I don't drive my vehicle enough to recharge the battery. The service manager states that every car on their lot is started every 3 days to charge the battery of the car or else it will die. He also claimed that I need to drive at least 30 minutes a day by freeway in order to keep the battery charged. I fing this to be a load of crap. I have 27,000 miles on the vehicle and I drive 15 miles one way to work which takes 20 minutes and out of that 15 miles, 12 miles is freeway. He also told me that if a vehicle isn't started or driven whitin 2 to 3 weeks it will completely die because there is constant "draw" from the battery. Up until this point I respected all they tried to do to fix it, now they are kicking me while I'm down and I don't buy their answers

They are hoping you get blinded by the smoke and mirrors. Report them to GM customer service and next time maybe look around for another dealership then tell them what the other dealer told you and listen to the laughter.

The service reps are useless never take advice from them. The tech is the real brains.

My GMC sits for up to 3 weeks without being started. Fires up everytime. Battery is like 6 years old.

I appreciate the discussion on this topic... My 2010 Canyon V8 4X4 was purchased new in April 2010... Never a problem until September 2015... Original battery went dead after a few days without starting... No problem... Replaced 5 1/2 year old battery... New battery went dead in a month or so after the vehicle sits for 2 or 3 days... Took the new battery back twice... Finally, battery dealer replaced the new battery... Same problem... Blue Max battery... Never heard of that brand for auto use... No info on-line... Went to NAPA and purchased a GOOD battery... Same problem after a couple of weeks... Started looking for parasitic battery drain with ammeter between battery negative terminal and ground cable... Have approximately 450 mA(0.45 A)drain with everything shut off... Checked wife's Acura MDX... Hers about 230 mA... I pulled every fuse and relay one-at-a-time, disconnected alternator and starter... I found one fuse that eliminates about 100 mA... Other than that I can find no source of power drain... There are no interior lights on after everything times out... Radio Mp3 & CD player have power to them when vehicle is off... But I can see them shut down on ammeter after they time out... On-Star has its own power switch... Alternator appears to be charging fine... Battery voltage 12.0 V with everything off... About 14.5 V with motor running... I only drive this vehicle about 7K miles per year... I am not too cheap to take it to GMC dealer but hate to pay them for chasing gremlins... Anything new on this?... Thanks...

I have the same problem that LaurenceENielsen describes on a 2011 Colorado. I found that disconnecting the white/blue 22 pin connector behind the right kick panel eliminates the current draw (see images). There are only 2 circuits in that connector with power, an orange wire with a white tracer and an orange wire with a black tracer. I do not have access to a wiring diagram. Can anybody tell me where those circuits go?
