1500 with 6.2 or 2500 Duramax 6.6?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Resurrecting this old thread. I am getting ready to finally buy my Sierra 1500 with 6.2. I cant find hardly any 4WD 6.2 trucks (preferably silver) in arizona so i may have to travel to a nearby state...

I have narrowed the search down to these two options:

2008 Sierra Denali 1500. 6.2 AWD, 80K miles $29k

2GTEK638081215012

http://www.groovetoy...7463c011a6.htm#

or

2011 Sierra 1500 SLT 6.2 4WD 12K miles $36k

3GTP2WE20BG335795

http://www.pickuptru...&paId=476038742

I would think I can get them down a few K.

What do you all think?

Could someone run a report on both the above vins? I want to know what gears and the 2011 1500 SLT has the "Truck insturment cluster" but has the SLT interior? never seen that before...

Those are both nice trucks but my vote is for the 2011. I like to watch the gas vs. diesel debates as I had to make a decision like you and researched for about a year and you can really tell who has the common sense or not 'online'. If you're like me and want to keep your truck a long time then it's a no-brainer- just put gas in and change oil, see you in 10 years!

I'm going through the same thing right now. I have a 2009 with the 5.3 / 6 speed / 3.42's. Leveled with 295/55/20 Trail Grapplers. Not really happy with it when I have to tow. I've been half way looking for a used Dmax in the $33k range.

I bought my truck new on a great deal for $29k. Right now KBB private party is $27k, trade in around $25k. I owe roughly $5k left on my truck.

Found a 2008 Sierra Duramax. 70,000 miles, SLT (my truck is a SLE), burgundy in color for $33,000 OBO.

RRREEEAAAALLLLLLYYYYY debating on whether to make a move on it....

This truck has all the options I want. Is 36K a good price for a 2011 6.2 with 12k miles? Has anyone done better during "truck month" with 2012's?

SuperchargedSS - I am happy to hear you like your 6.2. Is it great stock or did you put a tune on it already? Do the 6.2's only come with 3:73 gears? I want the tallest gears for highway driving. I rarely ever tow.

Sab316 how much do you have to tow? Nothing will be better towing than the diesel, period. But it's only you that can decide if you can live with the inherent drawbacks and expense of the diesel the rest of the time. That said, a gas HD can move any kind of weight a diesel can, just not as well- nature of 2 different beasts. Just don't let some salesman or dealership or jerk tell you that everything else is garbage if it doesn't have a diesel, because 90% of people don't actually "need" one, and the gas is actually the better choice for most situations. But I guess we all waste money on stuff we don't really need, right?

I'm towing more and more lately. Tractor / 500 gallon pressure washer / skid steer / various atv's during hunting season / etc. Sure I don't tow all the time. I look at a diesel the same as 4 wheel drive. You don't always need it, but its damn nice to have it when you do.

There are definitely some drawbacks to a diesel, higher maintenance costs, higher fuel cost, etc., but there are also some positives with higher towing capacity, longer lasting, etc.

When I bought my 2009 1500 I said I was going to drive it until the wheels fell off. I'm just looking to possibly make a move if I can get the price right, and still ride it till the wheels fall off (whatever I drive). If I can get into a Duramax, with an upgrade in trim package, while only financing $10,000. Most people would pull the trigger on that deal.

Literally just got it last night. It's stock now. Averaged 16.7 miles from SC to FL. I have the Blackbear Autocal at the house for it. Going to tune it this week.

This 6.2 came with 3.73. I've seen them with 3.42 before, but nothing more than those two.

Sticker was $43xxx. I had some GM reward points and ended up with it for $33585.

That sounds like a good deal! Was that price out the door or before Tax Title Registration, etc? What trim and options? Post some pics!

Yeah the LTZ interior just reminds me of our old '05 Sebring. I actually needed the 6 pass. interior and had to go down a model to get it and then put every option back in, but I couldn't get the seat heaters. Both Ford and Dodge let you do this with their top models 40/20/40, but not GM. I am glad though as I much prefer the LT interior and the seats are really warm so I guess I don't need a heater for my ass at least until I'm older LOL!
