1500 with 6.2 or 2500 Duramax 6.6?

Recommended Posts

What a nice truck! I like the LT interior so much better than the upper models with the low dash and faux wood grain.

Thanks!! Yes, I actually really like the LT truck interior too. Our suburban had he LTZ interior, I like this one better.

The lt tahoes and suburbans also have the wood grain unlike the pickups

When I bought my 2009 1500 I said I was going to drive it until the wheels fell off. I'm just looking to possibly make a move if I can get the price right, and still ride it till the wheels fall off (whatever I drive). If I can get into a Duramax, with an upgrade in trim package, while only financing $10,000. Most people would pull the trigger on that deal.

Umm, not sure, maybe- I wouldn't. Some people might also say you already have a really nice truck that's pretty much paid for and will cost much less to keep on the road for a long time. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks though it only matters what you think. If this was 2008 I would probably be in a diesel as well, but I wanted a new truck. I guess I just missed the "good" years when diesels were cool.

I didn't know that Ryan, can you get the "truck" interior in any model yukon or tahoe? Would love to have one for the wife.

I'm referring to the LTZ pickup being the same as our LTZ suburban, whereas the LT pickup is not the same as the LT Suburban.

The dash and doors are completely different on the LT trucks as opposed to the LTZ trucks. Wasn't referring to the wood grain.

Hey all. I went and test drove a 2013 6.2 1500 and a 2013 Duramax 6.6 2500. I really liked how the 6.2 handled and it felt like a much smaller truck compared to the 2500 (even though it is only about a foot shorter). The Duramax felt a hell of a lot more powerful off the line and punching it on the highway. I liked how the 6.2 sounded but it sure didnt feel like 400hp.

Are new trucks in a "limp or breakin mode" ? I was test driving at 7000 ft so 403hp x 21% = 318hp. Maybe that is why the 6.2 felt down on power? (using 3% hp loss per 1000ft formula)

Another question, Why is the damn dash so low in the premium interior? It felt like the "truck" dash made the cabin roomier although it lacked all the bells and whistles.

Anyway still looking for a nice truck in the low 30k range....

The transmissions also have a lot of tourqe managment built into them to make them last longer. A lot of members here have tuned that out with zero side effects, it also makes the 6.2 rip.

The ecm AND tcm have torque management built into their factory cals. Roll on the throttle instead of stomping it. You'll see a huge difference.

I'm not sure about the half-tons but if I turn off my traction control and stabilitrak at the same time it makes some difference. The duramax feels fast but the 6.2 should be quite a bit faster. When I test drove the duramax back to back my 6.0 felt livelier, more like a sports car- I'm at sea level. In the real world though the duramax is about as fast as my truck- maybe a tick quicker in a straight line so there's no way it would run with a 6.2 half-ton. I think it feels fast because it's so heavy and has massive torque!

That's exactly how I felt when I ordered my truck! The LTZ interior reminds me of an import car. The lower models have a much nicer interior but you have to order back all the options, and still I had to go to the aftermarket for the ones you can't put back in from GM. Ford and Dodge have us beat for interiors I tell ya!

Turning off ANY traction aids (traction control and/or stability control) is of course going to change how strong these trucks feel. Those systems are in place to PURPOSELY hold the vehicle back in order to maintain control of the vehicle in limited traction conditions. Hense their names.

Glad I am not the only one who noticed. I am guessing you cannot get the work truck interior with navigation? And maybe it was just me but when I set the blower on "Hi" in the work truck interior it was annoyingly loud. It didnt seem nearly as loud in the premium interior.

No, no nav, but for the same price GM wants for their nav deck I went to the aftermarket and got a much better nav and way more powerful system installed.

Never noticed the blower thing on my test drives.
