Took the truck to the dealer

Recommended Posts

So I finally got around to getting the truck in to the dealer to address a few issues.

Oil Change

Popping noise from steering at low speed (parking)

Clunking/Creaking from rear at low speeds (esp when parking or over uneven terrain)

Front Rotors possibly warped

Weird stain with white outline on drivers seat that's appeared twice now.

I don't have time normally to bring the truck in to the dealer for them to try and duplicate some of my intermittent issues so I just keep a running log and try to get everything knocked out at once. Truck currently has 14k on it and so everything is warranty work.

I let her know that I would be dropping the truck off and I would need a rental. They put me in a 2011 Impala which I now know I don't care for much. I was surprised when the service advisor actually asked if I may be able to take her for a ride and duplicate the sounds I was hearing. I guess I always thought it was easier to say they "drove it" and could not duplicate them. Anyway, while backing up I was able to replicate the creaking from the rear.

She called me later that day and let me know that they believe one of my leaf springs would need to be replaced. Didn't specify what was wrong with it but she also said that they don't keep them in stock and would have to be ordered. Another phone call at 4PM today to let me know the truck was done and ready to pick up. She said that the vibration I was feeling when hitting the brakes was "normal" however...and that only under hard braking were they able to duplicate it. (Even under hard braking you shouldnt feel vibration I thought?) Anyway I was at work and was not able to pick up the truck today so I will get it first thing in the morning.

I'm unsure if they replaced one leaf or both but she said when I picked it up hopefully the leaf was responsible for the popping in the steering as well. I'm not convinced...the sound definitely felt and sounded like it was steering related.

I've had what I've read to be water stain that has appeared on my Ebony interior twice now. I do not eat or drink in my truck so it is not that. I mentioned the stain at last oil change where they could not figure out what was causing the stain..so they cleaned it. Stain gone..I'm not sure what they did this time around but the stain came back. I've not read of anyone else having this issue but I'm wondering if this could be due to sweat or something?? And if it was..why do I not notice my ass sweating profusely into my drivers seat??

I'll update the thread with what exactly they did to try to fix my issues. With all of the bad dealer experiences I'm hoping mine stays on the up and up.

Corey let me know if the creaking knocking noise goes away after they replaced your leaf springs. Ive been to 2 different dealers 4 times and they can't fix my noises. They haven't replaced either of my springs for some reason. Ive taken 2 service writers, a mechanic, and the service manager for rides in my truck and they still can't figure it out. The service manager told me it was the play between the axel and the wheel making the knocking noise so it was normal. I asked him why this normal noise just started 3 weeks ago and why my 03,and 09 didn't make this noise, his response was that is perplexing. Anyway good luck with everything else hopefully you have better luck than me. By the way my truck has 21000 on it and my brakes never vibrate.

Well, I picked the truck up this morning.

They said they isolated the creaking noise to the driver side leaf spring but that it was special order part. So, they would special order the part..and I would need to bring the truck back for them to fix it. Everyone who heard it said it should NOT be making that kind of sound. Almost sounds like something is close to breaking..or may have already broken. A quick visual inspection of both leafs on my part did not show any damage.

They also informed me the white stained ring on my driver seat is attributed to DUST. While I think that's a crock of sh*t....I'll roll with it. They shampooed the seat and the faint outline of the stain still shows. I find it hard to believe dust would create a stain like that. It almost looks like I spilled milk all over the ass of the seat and failed at cleaning it. I felt guilty bringing it up for fear they would think I was just making it up.

They told me that when they replace the leaf (just one) that they would see if the popping goes away in the front end because they think it could be related. I know it isn't however so I was a bit peeved that I'm going to have to duplicate that issue for them after they fix the leaf.

Will update when that gets done and fixes the issue. Still doesn't explain why the leaf would make that sound in the first place....hopefully this is the extent of the problems I have with this truck. I certainly am glad to have it back over that Impala...I'd take my 2001 back over a 2011 anyday.

Corey, I have a truck just like yours w/ 22,000 on it and I've never had any of the issues you are having. NONE! I would keep after them because what you are experiencing is NOT normal. Believe me, if you get that truck fixed right, you'll never say the 2001 is better...I had a 2000 and while I really liked that thing it doesn't hold a candle to my 2011. Good luck and stay persistent.

Corey,Just for grins open the hood of your truck and put grease on both adjustable rubber hood stops. The two most forward ones on either side. My 2011 used to pop and thud like nobody's business when I drove slow over speed bumps or cornering. It was the dry rubber against the painted sheet metal surface of the underhood where the rubber stop seated.

I am unsure how much they are working with me at this point. The "dust" explanation for whats going on with my seat seems pretty far fetched. The dealer called 3 hours after I picked my truck up to let me know the leaf spring had arrived and I could bring it back in to have that issue addressed.
